The only way I could know this was to install Perl from source on a test system, then see if I was able to install modules back to the old version. I can tell you having two versions of Perl has broken my ability to install some Perl modules from apt-get on a Debian system, I see no reason for it not to do the same on SuSE. Now, just for fun, I'm trying to get amavisd-new running using the newer version of Perl. Here we go, after a (frustrating) hour and a half of installing modules it finally came up on Perl 5.8.8. :) Oops, can't find razor2 modules, guess I'll have to install it from source. Yep, that worked, of course it ignored the packaged version because that version is installed in the old version of Perl. So, I can install from CPAN to the old version, and I can install some modules (but not others) from packages to the old system. If I install from source, it installs in the new version. So you have two versions of Perl. One installed with the system, and a couple versions installed from source, one on top of the other. It's not the end of the world. You need to be explicit if you want to use your old version. Amavisd-new is using using Perl 5.8.1 because we tell it to; the first line in amavisd is: #!/usr/bin/perl -T If you want to install a CPAN module in the old version, be explicit and start cpan with that version of Perl: /usr/bin/perl -MCPAN -e shell So, you can solve your immediate problem in one of two ways. You can install (or force install) Net::Server 0.90 from CPAN into your 5.8.1 version of Perl by explicitly using that version. Or, you could have amavisd-new use Perl 5.8.8 by changing the first line in amavisd: #!/usr/local/bin/perl -T but if you do this, you will most likely first need to install all the Perl modules from CPAN that amavisd-new needs, or you will get: sfa:~# amavisd-new debug ERROR: MISSING REQUIRED BASIC MODULES: IO::Wrap IO::Stringy Unix::Syslog Mail::Field Mail::Address Mail::Header Mail::Internet Compress::Zlib MIME::Words MIME::Head MIME::Body MIME::Entity MIME::Parser MIME::Decoder MIME::Decoder::Base64 MIME::Decoder::Binary MIME::Decoder::QuotedPrint MIME::Decoder::NBit MIME::Decoder::UU MIME::Decoder::Gzip64 Net::Server BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/sbin/amavisd-new line 148. I would go back to where we started, and rename Server.pm, but this time to something that does not contain 'Server.pm' mv /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.1/Net/Server.pm \ /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.1/Net/Serverpm-old Then test again. It could be the modules are different for the different versions of Perl. Actually, the one thing it might tell me is it might be a good thing they are different, because you previously copied Server.pm from one to the other, and now they are not the same, so the 'force install' may have fixed that. It's up to you if you want to revert to 0.87 or not. If you do, it would be interesting to see where it installs. Gary V --- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc. [AMaViS-user] SQL Whitelist for All Users
I recently upgraded to amavisd-new 2.3.3 and SQL based configuration. I have several different local domains but all users are treated the same. I only want to have one policy and one white/black list for all users. I am having trouble getting this to work with the SQL configuration. In particular, I had to create separate entries in the users table for each domain in order to mark them as local. Now the wblist table requires rid to match against the users table which would mean that I would have to create redundant wblist entries for each domain? [AMaViS-user] amavis fail at startup
I did a yum update on my system to update all packages on my fedora c3 server and now amavis fails when I try to start it. I get a message that says Unpackers code: Convert::UUlib version 1.05 required--this is only version 1.04 at (eval 47) line 17. Version 1.05 is installed on the server so I am not sure why I get this error. If someone can point me in the right direction to solve it I would be very grateful. It does not look like you renamed /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.1/Net/Server.pm (because it still finds that one, but now it's not the same file). It looks like you may have upgraded to 0.90? Or did you just copy Server.pm from somewhere? If you had renamed Server.pm, Perl should have found /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.1/Net/Server.pm instead.
