Re: [arr] SDm - Box office - India

2009-02-10 Thread $ Pavan Kumar $
If you want to go by the collections point of view..the movie did just averege
collections from its 2 versions(Hindi & English)...Many factors have affected
its collections, its delayed release in india and moreover the movie was easily
available for download months before its official release in India..Otherwise
with then hype it had generated it would have been a huge huge hit inspite of
new names & very limited star appeal

[arr] To Brother Aakarsh Shah - Eechi Elumici

2009-02-10 Thread Vithur
Dear Aakarsh,

Your Instrumentals are out of the world, and you have all the chance and
good wishes of me and everyone here to be part of AR's Team. I have all your
instrumentals with me till date, and I have a request.

I dont know if you would have heard AR's Tamil Works. There is a movie by
name TAJMAHAL which had music of AR.

It has wonderful classical folk type music ( with fusion ingredients in it )

There is a very famous song " Eechi Elumichi" , and the flute bit of the
tune comes as a BGM all through the movie. Its such a wonderful piece. I
have it with me and shall share the entire BGMs soon.

I would like you to make an instrumental of the full song " Eechi Elumichi".
It may be tough, as the song is little complex..

Thanks in anticipation.

( Its a loving request. )

God Bless you .

[arr] Re: jai ho!!! remix is amazing

2009-02-10 Thread nivensamy
IMHO, its been targeted to american and PCD audiences as much focus is
on their voice and little on music and usual interludes by Rahman.
Also I miss the H.Shridar strings part. IMHO.

But the goal of promoting for RNB n Hiphop audience is well done and
could have been more elaborated IMHO

[arr] [Semi ARR] I told Rakyesh that only I can do Delhi-6

2009-02-10 Thread satish_srini
You are doing quite a few films with Aishwarya.

Don't we look good together? Guru was one of my biggest hits, then
Dhoom-2 although we were not a pair was a hit film and then Sarkar Raj
too was a huge hit. Now I hope we repeat the success in Mani's film.

• We believe that you travelled by train during the shoot of Mani's film?

Yes, I was shooting in a place called Orcha in MP. The only way to
reach there was travel overnight in a train. It was nice to get in the
train, sleep at the night and get up next morning in Orcha. I loved
travelling in the train.

• Tell us about the remake of Abhimaan.

Yes that's with dear friend Rajeev Menon. It's not a remake but is
largely inspired from Abhimaan. Rajeev narrated the idea to us and we
liked it. He is currently developing the script and hopefully once
it's ready we will go on the floors.

[arr] My expectations for an Oscar are very low

2009-02-10 Thread satish_srini
In the wake of Slumdog Millionaire, AR Rahman's triumphant streak
continues. And how!

This week, he walked away with the prestigious BAFTA (British Academy
of Film & Television Arts) awards for his music in Slumdog Millionaire.

An exhausted but exhilarated Rahman said from London, "It came as
surprise, not because I didn't expect it but, because it was announced
too soon. Mine was one of the first awards to be announced. I got it
from one of my favourite international artistes Kylie Minogue. That
was pretty cool."

Yesterday, Rahman returned from London to Chennai for just a day
especially so that he could take his wife, Saira Bano to Los Angeles
for the Oscars.

"More than mine, it's my wife's dream that I get an Oscar," said Rahman.

But everything isn't a cakewalk for Rahman. He is under tremendous
pressure to bring home the Oscar. "I feel like one of our
sportspersons at the Olympics who is being told to bring home a gold
medal. I hope I don't let people in India who are expecting me to win
the Oscar down. God has already given me much more than I ever
expected. I have very low expectations from my nomination at the
Oscars. Maybe that's the kind of person I am," he said cautiously.

Yes Vithur..Second your thoughts whole heartedly..
At times when even when I am facing personal/professional problem
ARR is the person whom I look up to. I just ask myself a simple
question

'How ARR would have reacted to this situation'

Problem is automatically solved. Life to me right now( and will be )
is like living with ARR, with him holding my hands taking me thro
the journey of life.

His life is indeed a message to all the people around the world.

very well said. fox searchlight is doing the perfect thing so to say.
i hope it works. jai ho is the choice of the season, the victory song

Indian punters bet big on 'Slumdog' Oscar success: report

MUMBAI (AFP) — Indian gamblers are staking big money on "Slumdog
Millionaire" winning the best picture, best director and best music awards
at this year's Oscars, a report said Tuesday.

The Economic Times said that an estimated one billion rupees (20.5 million
dollars) was riding on the outcome of the Academy Awards, for which the hit
British film with an Indian cast and crew has 10 nominations.

With the exception of casinos and lottery games in some states and despite
Indians being among the world's most enthusiastic gamblers, organised
betting is illegal in India and largely an underground activity.

"We are accepting bets for three things -- A.R. Rahman (best music
category), the movie (best picture category) and Danny Boyle (best director
category)," one unnamed Mumbai-based bookmaker was quoted as saying.

Another in the city of Ahmedabad, in neighbouring Gujarat state, said
betting on "Slumdog" has been gaining momentum since the end of a recent
cricket match between India and Sri Lanka.

"Bets worth (200-300 million rupees) have been accepted in my circle in the
past few days."

Odds for "Slumdog" winning best picture are being offered at 1.53/1, in line
with international betting websites. Indian bookmakers put Boyle as 1.55/1
to win; and Rahman at 1.25/1, the business daily said.

The Oscars take place on February 22.

I liked all three songs that were nominated. I hope AR does a hattrick at
Oscars (Bagging all three awards!). However, I will be happy even if Peter
Gabriel wins his first Oscar.

One more thing I would like to quote - Martin Scorcese has created better
films than his own Departed, but academy honoured him for his work in
Departed. So, let's not worry about the academy's choice and instead just
say, if one wins Oscar it's for what he has given to the society till date.

As he told reporters, after his BAFTA acceptance speech, "It is a great

the composer is. People have started liking the score of the movie and it's

RE: Down to Earth by Peter Gabriel (Re: [arr] 'Slumdog' vs. 'Wall-E' for best song)

2009-02-10 Thread serge belier

Gomzy, I did not understand your position. Are you saying that Wall-E is better
than SDM ?
Would you prefer that Wall-E win the oscar ?

At this stage of the competition, for me, both music are elligible for winning,
but being a true ARR fan, I want that ARR SIR wins.
In other terms, being in love with India, I wish an Indian wins. It's like when
there is a cricket match in which India is playing, will you wish that India
loses the game ???

Honestly, I hope I misunderstood your view. Otherwise, I don't know what's
going on in people mind, I don't understand.

I heard Wall-E's Down to Earth by Peter Gabriel. I think that is the song
nominated for Oscar in the category of SDM songs.

Yes Rawat. Thats the song.

The song seems good, but English music has had enumerable equally good or even
better songs compared to that, whereas our man's SDM songs have a novelty value
as international level music from India.

Are you telling that Jai Ho is the best ever from India and hindi music?

And something in this song reminds me of some of Bryan Adams' songs and even
his voice, not able to pinpoint which one. Anyone.

Jai Ho reminds us of Bazi laga and the ATM song too. Thats not the point.

Watch the movie. You will appreciate the song better. Also check out the
lyrics. Great message.

Re: [arr] Re: CNN IBN:Face the nation-Is A R Rahman the finest Indian music director ever?

2009-02-10 Thread Aakarsh
Very weird Question.

Can there ever be a Single 'Finest' or 'Best' entity in any field? I dont
really think so. It is like asking 'Is Maniratnam the Finest Director?' or 'Is
Violin the Finest instrument?' or 'Is Rasgulla the Best Sweet ever?" or "Is
Kerala the the finest Holiday destination?" etc etc.

Wish people showed some maturity in acknowledging talent and using appropriate
definite words such as 'One of The Finest' or 'Best in this Era' or something.
Questions like these need definite boundaries so that people can have definite
opinions (whatever they might be).

If we say Yes, then what can we say about 'Ustad Zakir Hussain' who just won a
Grammy?

Wish the question was more confined, to genre or era or things like that so
that controversies could be avoided.

Slumdog Millionaire made a clean sweep at the BAFTAs in London. Danny Boyle's
film won seven awards including the ones for Best film and Best Director, but
giving India another achievement to be proud of was music composer A R Rahman
who won the Award for the Best Music Score.
The question that raised on CNN-IBN's Face The Nation was: Is A R Rahman the
finest Indian music director ever?
To try and answer the question on the panel of experts were: Music director for
films Aamir and Dev D, Amit Trivedi and film critic Mayank Shekhar.
Slumdog music Rahman's best work?
A R Rahman has taken Indian to the world and his music for Slumdog
Millionaire has been praised world over. However, people are wondering whether
Rahman's music for the film been widely appreciated because it's his best music
or because of the film's international appeal.
Mayank Shekhar didn't believe the music ofSlumdog... is Rahman's finest work
and in fact felt the music director has delivered better scores for other
movies. He further said that the West has taken notice of Rahman due
to Slumdog... and that is the reason for the attention on him.
"You can't compare the soundtrack of Slumdog...with the soundtrack of
even Delhi6 because it's inferior. A song like Ringa Ringa sounds like Choli ke
peeche to me," he said.
He further cited examples of Rahman's other work and said in the year 2008
itself he's done some exceptional soundtracks for films like Jaane Tu Ya Jaane
Na and Yuvraaj.
However, Mayank Shekhar recalled Rahman's entry into the music industry and
said he took the standards of music higher.
Amit Trivedi agreed with Mayank Shekhar, but said it was a long overdue
appreciation for Rahman. He considered Rahman an inspiration and said he's
grown up listening to his music.
In conclusion, Rahman's music speaks for itself and though Slumdog
Millionaire has brought his work into focus to the West, awards can't define
this maestro's greatness who time over has given inspirational music.
Final SMS Poll: Is A R Rahman the finest Indian music director ever?Yes: 91 per
cent
No: 9 per cent

[arr] Rahman's road to Oscars

Rahman's road to Oscars IndiaGlitz [Tuesday,
February 10, 2009]

Will he clinch it or not? With just 12 days to go for the coveted Oscar
awards presentation ceremony, every fan across the country are praying
for music wizard A R Rahman to bag the rare honour.

Having lapped up several awards including the Golden Globe and BAFTA as
a prelude to the Oscars, hopes and expectations are high on Rahman to
win the Oscar race. Being nominated in three categories for 'Slumdog
Millionaire', Rahman has almost reached the finale for the Grammy
awards.

The man, who changed the face of Tamil film music industry, was least
expected to scale such heights in his life when he made a humble
beginning with 'Roja'. Spotted by acclaimed film-maker Mani Ratnam,
Rahman seized the opportunity and grew from strength to strength.

Today an icon of music across the globe, Rahman has proved that
versatility and innovative thoughts make up a great musician. Associated
with Mani Ratnam, he rendered many a scintillating musical entertainers
and their journey is still on.

'Slumdog Millionaire' is a mighty jewel in his crown which paved way for
Global recognition. The rags to riches story by Danny Boyle, is making
waves across the globe. Specially, Rahman's composition 'Jai Ho' and
'Ringa' has emerged as an anthem among worldwide music lovers.

With less than a couple of weeks to go for Oscars, IndiaGlitz begins a
countdown and chronicles the journey of Rahman. Let's cheer and enjoy
the journey of a great musician who has set an example for young and
aspiring musicians making a successful path from Kodambakkam to Oscars.

Let's stand together and wish 'Jai Ho' for Rahman.

2009-02-10 Thread pleasant pleasance
Guys,

1. Tamizha Tamizha  (ROJA) is a semi-GHAZAL
2. PURE TAMIL GHAZAL - SUTRUM  VIZHI SUDARDAN (KANDUKONDEN KANDUKONDEN)
3. Tehzeeb
4. Udhaya
5. ZUBEIDA .etc.

All of them are GHAZALS With the flavour of FUSION.  Hence pure GHAZALIST are
CONSERVATIVEs that they are not able to accept the change.  Today's world deals
with MUSICAL INTEGRATION of DIFFERENT CULTURES around the world. Our BOSS is
the WINNER in integrating the world MUSIC in LARGE SCALE.   So PURE GHAZALIST
dont even like other MUSICAL CULTURES, hence THEY ARE LAMENTING ON AR REHMAN
that they are not able to achieve those heights acheived by our BOSS.  THAT'S
FUNNY ainnit.

To add Oil to the FIRE, ARR in his earlier interviews expressed that Most of
the songs that are recorded at the studio when reach the CINEMAS lose 90% of
SUBTLE TRUE SOUNDS.  Hence when all the cinemas update their AUDIO components
to MEET that requirements, and when all AUDIO COMPRESSIONS like MP3 VANISH and
when there is no PIRACY of AUDIO over net happens, then we all can hear the
TRUE HEAVENLY MUSIC from ARR's PARADISE showing the TRUE COLOURS of FUSION.
This means WE ARE STILL LISTENING TO ONLY 10% of the effects of ARR'S MAGIC
that makes FLY AWAY TO DIFFERENT WORLD.  Imagine if it is 100%, there will be
no chance of WAR IN THE WORLD I COULD'NT WAIT TO IMAGINE IT.  ;-).

With all the luv and Respect to all our TRUE fellow fans.
Pleasance.

Pals..

I really wonder why ARR has not exploited much of Ghazal songs in his career.
Is this because of the subjects that he chose so far are not appropriate for
Ghazals?? I ve heard people linking "Udhaya Udhaya Ularugiren.. ." from the
movie Udhaya to Ghazal..!!! Is this ARR's sole Ghazal? or "Na Shiqwa Hota..."
from Tehzeeb can also be considered in this genre? Please list me his Ghazal
numbers if any...!!!

RE: [arr] What would be the results of this experiment?

2009-02-10 Thread Anand Bharathan
Very good analysis, Chord. I think if you are an identified Rahman fan,
your brain is so programmed to his type of music that you are looking out
for the Rahman signature in the song. So to me, Group B can still identify
it as Rahman's even if he/she is told it is by another composer and hence
there should be no difference between Group A and B results. Casual music
fans should again be neutral (ie) able to judge scores based on its
intrinsic merit. I personally know people who have stereotyped our man as
per their expectations that they will just trash his music even before
listening to it.

Subject: [arr] What would be the results of this experiment?

I'm always been interested in the relationship between knowledge of a
composer for a piece of music and the resulting judgement of that
piece of music. Here's an experiment I propose:

Two groups of people:

One group is composed of indentified Rahman fans (those who listen to
Rahman often, follow his activities, await his releases, listen to
his music quite often.people in this group) The operational
definition of being a Rahman fan would be empirically validated.

Second group is composed of casual music fans who are not identified
Rahman fans. They might like some of his scores, but do not consider
themselves to be actual fans of Rahman.

Both groups are selected randomly from the population in India, each
meeting group definition criteria based on valid and reliable
questionnaires. There are equal numbers in each group (same n). The
overall N would be large enough to offset random error sampling and
would approximate the Gausian distribution in terms of population
representation (good external and internal validity).

Now, suppose we split both groups exactly in half so we get 4
groups. Random assignment is used for within group splitting.

Suppose all 4 groups listen to a song or an album that's not been
heard before by anyone (for sake of argument, even though this may
not be possible). Each group is asked to rate the song or album in
terms of how much they like it (using a valid and reliable scale
theoretically). They are all allowed to listen to the song or album
only 3 times in succession (we could create more groups while varying
this independent variable (number of times listening to a song) but I
won't make it complicated right now). The dependent variable
(likeability) would be on a ratio scale (zero scale). Here's how I
would like to define each group:

Group A - Identified Rahman fans who are told that the song or album
is by Rahman, but not yet released publically.

Group B - Identified Rahman fans who are told that the song or album
is by a new composer not yet established in the industry.

Group C - Casual music fans who are told that the song or album is by
Rahman, but not yet released publically.

Group D - Casual music fans who are told that the song or album is by
a new composer not yet established in the industry.

In terms of results, I would of course predict that group A would
rate the album or song highest. However, I would be most interested
to know the difference between Group A and Group B. I hypthosize
that Group A would be higher. Also would be interested to know the
difference between Group A and C. I predict no significant group
differences between Group B and Group D.

This experiment is strictly hypothetical. I realize how difficult it
would be to pull this off in reality.

Good theory.

But if the music is really good, we can expect to have good result in group A,
B and D for sure.

Group B are people who appreciate good music, as I can identify to be part of
this group, as I also appreciate other musicians like Zakir Hussain, Talvin
Singh, and many more But I still appreciate ARR SIR music with more
intensity, even if sometime I can skip one track in his album for the reason
that I don't like it (very rare).

Group C can have low results because of people who don't like ARR (jalousy,
negativity, and other inferiority complex problems)
Just my point of view.

Down to Earth by Peter Gabriel (Re: [arr] 'Slumdog' vs. 'Wall-E' for best song)

2009-02-10 Thread V S Rawat
I heard Wall-E's Down to Earth by Peter Gabriel. I think that is the
song nominated for Oscar in the category of SDM songs.

The song seems good, but English music has had enumerable equally good
or even better songs compared to that, whereas our man's SDM songs have
a novelty value as international level music from India.

And something in this song reminds me of some of Bryan Adams' songs and
even his voice, not able to pinpoint which one. Anyone.

"One has to be careful, handing a delicate situation such as the Nazis
and the Jews. Violin seemed to be the instrument that best related to
the soul of these people." Resonance: "I sometimes wrote
in a quasi-minimalist way, trying to keep the melody austere enough,
moving but hopefully not overly sentimental." Advantage: Dramatic symphonic
work featuring top classical violinist Joshua Bell. Handicap: Violin solos in
Holocaust movie may strike some as "Schindler's List" redux.

DANNY ELFMAN "Milk" More than one option(Film) MilkKudo Yukika, Edgar
Honetschlaeger(Film) MilkPhyllida Law, William Brookfield(Film) MilkOscar
pedigree: Three previous noms (including "Good Will Hunting") Awards to date:
Broadcast Film Critics nom Challenge: "Finding the right tone. Trying to find
the balance between pushing too hard and not pushing enough." Resonance:
"The most important thing was not to play the time and place, but the
interior side. Harvey's story is an American story and I really do
think of him as an American hero." Advantage: Quietly heroic theme clearly
helps film. Handicap: Score could be missed in the mix of all the '70s songs

A.R. RAHMAN "Slumdog Millionaire" Oscar pedigree: None Awards to date: Won
Golden Globe, Broadcast Critics awards; BAFTA nom Challenge:
"I knew that Danny (Boyle, the director) liked Indian stuff and he also
liked very edgy stuff. He didn't want any sentimental (music), except
for the love theme." Resonance: "It's acoustic
instruments, electronica, vintage Bollywood with futuristic elements.
Also, it's a score containing songs -- not as songs, but as score." Advantage:
Popular film, Acad's recent preference for world-music sounds Handicap: Heavy
contempo beat may sound more like source music than score

THOMAS NEWMAN "Wall-E"Oscar pedigree: Eight previous noms Awards to date:
BAFTA, Grammy noms Challenge:
"Inside Wall-E is the embodiment of humanity. ... How do I find a voice
for this without it sounding like third-rate John Williams?" Resonance:
"It became clear that there was an intimacy as well as massive scale. I
knew, ultimately, that I could make a difference in how you felt about
Wall-E as a character." Advantage: Magical score contributes to film's warmth
and humor, especially in many scenes without dialogue. Handicap: Of eight
previous Pixar films, six were nommed for score, and none won.

A breakdown of the tunesmith contenders

"DOWN TO EARTH""Wall-E" Music: Peter Gabriel and Thomas Newman Lyrics:
Peter Gabriel Oscar pedigree: Eight prior noms for Newman, first for Gabriel
Awards to date: World Soundtrack Award; Golden Globe, Broadcast Film Critics
and Grammy nomsPlacement: End credits Challenge:
"The whole issue of the end credits was, we're back on Earth and it's
still pretty bleak. Now what? Pixar decided to do a whole montage on
how mankind restores itself," says Newman. Resonance: "In a way, (the song is)
kind of a rallying cry. (The result was) joyfully surprising."Advantage: Fun,
relevant song from Pixar film; animated-movie songs often win; could benefit
from split "Slumdog" vote. Handicap: "Slumdog" juggernaut could wipe out its
chances.

"JAI HO""Slumdog Millionaire" Music: A.R. Rahman Lyrics: Gulzar Oscar pedigree:
First nom for both Awards to date: Broadcast Film Critics nomPlacement:
Bollywood-style musical finale in Mumbai train station Challenge: "Danny shot
the song with another temp track. I could see all the moves and I figured out a
way to sync it," says Rahman.Resonance:
"'Jai Ho' is like a blessing: 'Be victorious.' We felt that it would be
the right thing, the right energy. He ended the film, and this was like
an encore." Advantage: Upbeat, infectious finale is like frosting on the cake
of a feel-good movie. Handicap: Voters may not remember which "Slumdog" number
is which, possibly splitting vote.

"O ... SAYA""Slumdog Millionaire"Music and lyrics: A.R. Rahman and Maya
Arulpragasam Oscar pedigree: First nom for both Awards to date: None Placement:
Children playing on airport tarmac and subsequent police chase.Challenge:
"We wanted to tell people that this is a film which is completely
different from all other Indian films. We want to take you for a ride,
in a positive way," says Rahman. Resonance: "I heard
M.I.A. three years ago; her energy was a surprise to me. So when Danny
suggested M.I.A., I was very excited. I thought this was probably the
right film to do." Advantage: M.I.A. lyric and vocal make this the most
contemporary sounding of the three songs, possibly appealing to younger voters.
Handicap: See "Jai Ho"

Race heats up for score Oscar

Unpredictable Academy leaves many scenarios

 By JON BURLINGAME

Guessing the nominees for the original-score Oscar in advance -- an
annual parlor game for the town's many music-savvy observers -- is
always a lot easier than predicting the winner.
It's not all that
difficult to anticipate the preferences of the 233 members of the
Academy music branch. The lineup is usually drawn from a handful of
usual suspects and the occasional impressive newcomer. And that's the
case this year.
What's harder to gauge is the degree to which the other 5,577 voting members
respond to, and recall, music in a movie:
Will they remember how important music was in the dialogue-free first half of
the hugely popular "Wall-E"? Will they hark back to a time when the epic with
the most noms (this year, "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button") always won the
score award? Will they respond to the relatively short bits and pieces of the
"Milk" score that add up to a powerful whole? Will they choose an orchestral
score that features a leading classical artist and accompanies a Holocaust
movie ("Defiance")? Or will they remember the radio-friendly sounds, and very
prominent mix, of music and songs in "Slumdog Millionaire" and vote it the
Oscar?

More than one option(Film) MilkKudo Yukika, Edgar Honetschlaeger(Film)
MilkPhyllida Law, William Brookfield(Film) MilkMore than one option(Film)
Defiance1980 - Jan-Michael Vincent, John Flynn(Film) DefianceJean Jennings,
Armand Weston(Film) DefianceBrent Huff, Terence M O\'Keefe

"Slumdog" has the general momentum and an advantage on three fronts: composer
A.R. Rahman
is Indian, and 11 of the last 15 dramatic-score winners were not born
in the U.S.; the score has a definite world-music vibe, and five of the
past eight winners featured exotic sounds; and the big Bollywood-style
finale is so striking that it may be the one musical moment from 2008
films that everyone recalls.
On the other hand, if Acad voters
remember a song and vote for it, they may choose to reward a different
film in the score category. Songs and score from the same film were
nominated five times in the last decade, but only once (for the last of
the "Lord of the Rings" films) did both win.

So don't count out French composer Alexandre Desplat's
elegant work on "Button," which charted the title character's life and
loves around the world and throughout the 20th century. The composer's
characteristic 3/4 time signatures (see "Birth," "Girl With a Pearl Earring")
linger in the mind long after the film is over.
Thomas Newman
is nominated in both song and score categories. Because the title
character in "Wall-E" basically doesn't speak, music speaks for him.
"Wall-E" marks Newman's ninth and 10th bids, making him overdue for a
win.
"Defiance's" James Newton Howard has a pair of advantages: a major classical
soloist (violinist Joshua Bell) contributing to the soundtrack ("The Red
Violin" had Bell solos and won), and a huge promotional push over the last six
months -- for another film, "The Dark Knight," which was initially disqualified
then reinstated before falling short of the final five.
"Milk" is the real wild card. Danny Elfman's
score -- his third for a Gus Van Sant film, and second to be nominated
-- is supportive, never showy. Yet Elfman has paid his dues with 24
years of Hollywood scores and, because the movie has such ardent fans,
this could very well be his year.

[arr] A.R. Rahman who gave him the idea to use a dove instead of a pigeon

DELHI-6's Masakali is worth Rs. 13,000

Sonam posing with a dove (called Masakali in the film) on her head in
Rakeysh Mehra's DELHI - 6 has been creating a lot of buzz. It is heard that
Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra auditioned nearly a hundred pigeons for this
particular shot in the movie. But then he ultimately settled for a dove.

*CHECK OUT: DELHI 6, Pigeons and the quotient of
success
*

Sources inform that ''Rakeysh Mehra wanted to shoot a song with Sonam with a
bird sitting on her head. Initially he tried it out with pigeons but they
used to fly away. Later on it was music director A.R. Rahman who gave him
the idea to use a dove instead of a pigeon because he considered it a symbol
of love. Rakeysh Mehra promptly asked for 12 doves on the sets. Ultimately
he chose this particular dove which came all over from Assam.''

''Rakeysh had to shell out 13,000 Rs per day for the bird. And he wanted to
have that particular scene in the film as he had already scripted it and
didn't want to compromise at any cost'' adds our source.

Well Rakeysh Mehra's efforts definitely seem to be worth it. The song has
already become new talk of the town. The song also reminds us about
Rajshri's film MAINE PYAR KIYA where Bhagyashree sang with a dove on her
hand.

[arr] Naresh Iyer never imagined AR Rahman would pick him.

2009-02-10 Thread Vithur
*Anitha *

Chosen winner along with Nikhil was Anitha who received around 50,000 votes
from the public for her performance. Though the show got her exposure and
the much-needed recognition, it was her effort to grab offers in the film
industry
that
kickstarted her singing career. Anitha's first song was 'Marudhamalai
Mamaniye' in the film 'Marudhamalai',
musicscored
by Imman. Anitha has had experience in singing on-stage along with KJ
Yesudas and Unni Menon, and this got her the confidence to sing in studios.
She has also lent her voice for ad jingles for Saravana Stores, Ashirvad
atta, title song for Zee Tamil television's soap Azhagana Raakshashi besides
keeping herself busy recording devotional numbers and private albums in
Telugu, Malayalam and Urdu. Anitha's voice can be spotted in the tracks for
film 'Aiyandam Padai', 'Odipolama' and Gajendra (Kannada Film). She has also
been a part of re-recording for films like 'Ghajini' (Hindi),
'Dasavathaaram' and 'Villu.'

*Karthik*

One of the leading singers in Kollywood, Karthik was also a particiapnat in
'Saptha Swarangal' in Sun TV back in 1998, though it was his friend's cousin
singer Srinivas who got him an offer with AR Rahman.

Following Srinivas's advice for a year to continue with singing classes, he
received a call from him to sing for Rahman and that began Karthik's life as
a playback singer. He began as a backing vocalist for a song in the Hindi
filmPukar
and his performance struck gold as Rahman offered him a chance to sing
lead vocals for 'Nendhukittaen' for the Tamil film Star. Karthik has sung
over 1,800 songs in languages Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and Malayalam.

*Naresh Iyer*

Pushing him to participate in the show Super Singer organised by Channel V
back in 2004, playback singer Naresh Iyer never imagined AR Rahman would
pick him. Out of the 20,000 odd contestants, Naresh was shortlisted in the
final 25 but was sadly rejected for the final round. Though it did affect
him, the part that AR Rahman, who was the judge, told him that he would
definitely offer him a chance to sing for his compositions, came as a
consolation. Yet, Naresh was doubtful as he awaited a response from the
composer. But soon he realised that the composer was serious about it.
Naresh got a call from Rahman's studio and that started his journey into
filmdom. His first song being 'Mayiliragae' for the Anbe Aaruyire, it was
the song 'Roobaroo' for the Hindi film Rang De Basanti that won him the
National Award for Best Male Playback singer. Having lent his voice for over
70 songs in languages Tamil, Hindi and Telugu, Naresh is also the lead
singer in a fusion band called Dhvani that is based in Mumbai. "A reality
show
takes
you half way through to the start of a good career in singing but the rest
depends on you," he says. After the hit song in 'Vaaranam Aiyram'- 'Mundinam
parthene'- the latest from him is 'Kala Kala Bhander' in Delhi 6 and a song
in 'Ananda Thaandavam'.
