[AsburyPark] Asbury Radio: In Their Own Words
Hear the truth for yourselves by listening to the last 10 minutes of last Thursday's program at Asbury Radio: http://www.asburyradio.com/audio/2006-11-02.wma (Use your player's slider to get to that point.) Maureen wrote:"An Inconvenient Truth!! Very witty and very on the money. Please take a listen when I pose the question to last week's Repubs and Dems on Asbury Radio. I asked, essentially, if the role of elected officials should be to screen their comments for publicity reasons. The guests each said that they didn't want their public officials acting as PR people. The sound is up on www.asburyradio.com right now. Thanks, Maureen" Maureen was very insistent with her question on the positive spin and PR point. She had to ask the question 3 or 4 times. Tommy's reply: "That wasn't the question or the answer Mareueen. Why would you say that?" It wasn't The question. It was several questions, rephrased in different ways by Maureen, on the same single point to get those guys to answer her. I count her asking the question 8 times. Stu Koperweis was probably most honest in his answer about money and getting re-elected. Maureen's response to him, "Amen," ended the program. = Other revealing highlights If you had the time to listen to the last 45 minutes of the program: 1. A call-in from Dan (dfsavgny) to ask about the snide remarks about Frank Pallone and Barney Frank and the offer of cash for kiss pictures. 2. Tommy's distraction that the caller is "a left winger here in town who dislikes me" and who is getting personal. And "I've been offering for a long time pictures of Frank Pallone in Asbury Park." 3. Stu Koperweis, AP Republican Chairman, asking that they all stay on the issues, but acknowledging that Tommy "would like to get into a little bit of that [mudslinging]." Re: [AsburyPark] Re: The Fence
jack - im sure the fence will be fixed. the one side facning kinglsy wasnt done by nature. it was done by something falling too far, crashing into the fence. im sure they are well aware of it, and it will be fixed. after all, its more of a safty thing. if something happened, it would be on their hands. so now lets say the fence is fixed, everythings all right? if not, what do you have in mind to make the block look better? instead of saying whats bad, or not right. what could be different? charlie Sponsored Link Try Netflix today! "now admit it jack, you have never seen any kids playing on that pile...come on" i saw kids playing in a construction site in middletown the other day. the site was fully fenced in, and looked great. yet, the kids were still in there. go figure. Re: [AsburyPark] Re: The Fence
"I was there today. I didn't even notice it I had my eyes on the new sidewalks. See you look for the bad. " i think its becasue asbury partners are not exactly the most well liked group of people. if it were a different developer working in the area, would the miss hap with the fence be an issue? would the fence looking the way it did before the hole be an issue? (people complained the rubble pile shouldnt even be there a few months back. but, if it werent there. how would things run?? it is a working site. it cant look too pretty. maybe a different fence would be better? however, you figure for all the years that the city had its run down motels and buildings on the waterfront. half caving in, invested with who knows what. not even fenced in. just open to the public. no one complained on here then, did they? i never heard anyone. so with the holes in the fence fixed, the fence is fine in my eyes. [AsburyPark] Happy Medium
Let's be thankful for what progress there is - new infrastructure, etc. But let's also be honest things should be farther along - certainly with the waterfront. With regard to construction sites, etc., - I see them every day in NYC. Much larger in scope. In much more dense areas. It could be done better here. This is our home. Certainly one must expect disruption during construction - but, the sites could and should be completely fenced. Certainly so since some, for instance, the rock crushing operation, will be of relativelylong duration. It's not looking at the glance half-empty. It's not unreasonable. It's just asking the developerto respectwhere we live, play, etc. It doesn'tlook good and it can easily look better. The groups here can agree on some things. There is some progress yes. There are more things that need to be done and that could be done better. Not unreasonable positions on either side. Hopefully, we are all looking for the same thing - to developour city in the best way possible. Yahoo! Listen, the one block i'm talking about doesn't look like a typical construction site. The fence is a joke, and it's been a joke for more then a year. [AsburyPark] The Dog and Pony Show
Justified Right, the column, the blog and whatever oozes through to this forum, is “A Dog and Pony Show," plain and simple. The dog -- a Pit Bull. The pony -- a One Trick Pony. "To eat these things," said my uncle, "you must excercise great care. You may swallow down what's solid . . . BUT . . . you must spit out the air!" Here’s some solid from several posts: My issue is not criticisms of Keady, but rather character assassination and …his spin and distortion. No one deserves to be lied about. Everyone is responsible for what they say and do - not what is misinterpreted - purposefully…. The bigger message is one they do not want to hear so they miss the rest. Read the articles, the info is there. I'm not doing anyone's work for them…. What about Al Giobbie flip flop? You have nothing to say about that? It is not the message that is at issue but the messenger. That's my whole point, but what's the use…. Tommy in today's APP. He will take on the BSA and Keady to defend Italian-American heritage (misplaced) but will take a dive for the City and Partners?. … You want people with Italian surnames to boycott the BSA, how about they boycott AP and Partners? Oh right, most of the people who were insulted already boycotted AP when they took flight years ago. ..no now it is the messenger and not the message. the truth of the matter is if Keady had absolute proof or even under estimated he would still be damned by those same people now. =And here’s more tiresome Balloon Juice worthy of the nearest spittoon: "Columbus tale a fabrication,,Councilman Jim Keady objected to our celebration. He read from a book by Howard Zinn, a Marxist who has made a living criticizing America. = Should we forbid study of Henry Ford, Charles Lindbergh, William Randolph Hearst, IBM, and General Motors and many others who supported fascism and the Third Reich? What charges will be brought against The Christian Science Monitor for publishing this: "The trouble is, almost everything we've been taught about the first Thanksgiving in 1621 is a myth. The holiday has two distinct histories - the actual one and a romanticized portrayal. " Or the University of Virginia for this? The story of Washington and the Cherry Tree, a tale which still lingers through probably every grammar school in the U.S., was invented by a parson named Mason Locke Weems in a biography of Washington published directly after his death." Should we burn the secularists who celebrate satan and witches on Halloween more than they observe All Saints' Day? And shouldn't a right winger object to taxpayer dollars paying for ethnic celebrations? "He wanted to wipe out the gray, if-it-feels-good-do-it, blame-America-first, doused-in-Vietnam-guilt 60's and turn the clock back to the black-and-white Manichaean values of the 50's."AsburyPark : Message: An Asbury Park Quiz Game __._,_.___ SPONSORED LINKS Asbury park nj real estate United state flag Asbury park nj Asbury park real estate United state travel Your email settings: Individual Email|Traditional Change settings via the Web (Yahoo! [AsburyPark] The Fence
Looks like it's time to get out my camera, take some pictures and contact Hugh Lamie again. The fence around the rubble yard near the Stone Pony is worse then ever. It's falling down on one side, and a big part has come down on the other. It looks terrible. Somebody besides me needs to start cracking down on these bastards. I am not wasting my money in this town anymore. And why should I use my money to bring the lawsuit? For the city to be able to get some more money? Why should I do that? They'll just spend it foolishly. The truth is what it is. My issue had nothing to do with the Esperanza which I think is a good project and should be built. It was a matter of that it could not be built without amendation of the WRP. The city wants you to beleive in science fiction. As I said from the beginning, all it had to do was amend the plan and ask for nothing in return. It could have made its case for that. I've looked not to put one penny in my pocket - only in the public coffers. I made up nothing, from the Triangle to today, but truthfully - I don't care anymore. The people of AP are just too used to being taken advantage of. I will not disturb you of your notions, just don't try to make true what isn't. So yes, I was all talk with regard to C-8. When it comes to putting my money in a lawsuit I back off. But I'm enough of a man to admit it. And all of my talk was/true and based on facts - that's the difference. Yahoo! Dan the Man, I have a deal with Dan J not to put my columns up anywhere before the triCityNews comes out on Thursdays. Right now Gumba is first in line to go Thursday. [AsburyPark] Re: Donating to Asbury Park Little League - Should We?
If the Little League gets the $80,000 applied for, then maybe the balance could be picked up by the developer/land broker! They could donate the development rights fee they charge on 6 or 7 of the beachfront units!! Or, if that's not possible maybe part of the $1,000,000 they saved when they bought the Albion Hotel in conjunction with the City!! A small price for them to pay!!! __._,_.___ SPONSORED LINKS Asbury park nj real estate United state flag Asbury park nj Asbury park real estate United state travel Your email settings: Individual Email|Traditional Change settings via the Web (Yahoo! [AsburyPark] Tommy versus Boy Scout of America
Tommy in today's APP. He will take on the BSA and Keady to defend Italian-American heritage (misplaced) but will take a dive for the City and Partners. He has still failed to criticize the City and Partners for GUMBA NIGHT. What's the difference? Cronyism? He knows which side his bread is buttered on? Say it ain't so Tom, I thought you were better than that! You want people with Italian surnames to boycott the BSA, how about they boycott AP and Partners? Oh right, most of the people who were insulted already boycotted AP when they took flight years ago. I know now it is the meesenger and not the message. "Columbus tale a fabrication I fear your coverage about Asbury Park's Columbus Day landing may have put me and 100 other people in a false light. Your article suggested that we agree Christopher Columbus was a bad guy who mistreated Indians, but were there so as not to lose our annual party. Shenanigans. We were there exuberantly celebrating Columbus and America. We've done so annually for 50 years. Councilman Jim Keady objected to our celebration. He read from a book by Howard Zinn, a Marxist who has made a living criticizing America. He falsely accuses Columbus. Zinn cites a document written by Francisco de Bobadilla that says Columbus mistreated Indians, but fails to point out that de Bobadilla wanted Columbus' governorship and fabricated the stories. Queen Isabella fired him. Columbus was not a slave trader, either. After Indians murdered 40 of his men, he captured 500 and sent them to Spain as prisoners of war. That does not make him a slave trader. Columbus Day has deep associations for the Italian-American community. Italians are proud that our contribution to America includes the voyages of Columbus, the first North American explorer John Cabot and mapmaker Amerigo Vespucci. We love America and celebrate with her, not separately. Every year, the Boy Scouts provide the Indians to greet Columbus in Asbury Park. This year, they refused, not wanting to "take sides" in the controversy. By not showing up, they picked a side against Columbus, against Italian-Americans and against America. I encourage all Scout families with Italian surnames to abandon funding for the Scouts. Tommy De Seno ASBURY PARK" Yahoo! In my gut I don't think it hurt values any more than the shootings themselves. Besides contrary belief, my issue is not criticisms of Keady, but rather character assination and although I like Tommy, his spin and distortion. No one deserves to be lied about. Everyone is responsible for whatthey say and do - not what is misinterpreted - purposefully. Back to property values. What difference does it make if it is the truth. Now here is where I am a hypocrite. I'll say what difference is there between Keady's remarks about gangs and Fishman's comments in the NYT real estate section last year or so about it not being a good time to bring families here because the schools are not good? If they are both true they have a right to be said. I am hypocritical because I lambasted Larry for that (save you all the trouble of going back to find my messages). I only hate Fishman for one reason - he is screwing up the chances of this redevelopment more than if each of us went on Good Morning America and said they were massacring people here. I don't know why you "old-timers" are not fuming at being soft-soaped. In no stretch of the imagination can the total lack of progress on the waterfront be considered reasonable. It is tantamount to the success of this city and it is just not right. I told Allan to fuck off because I don't want to play games. As for rolemover, the more time you have been here and done nothing to move this city forward - the more shame on you. Also, I pay plenty of taxes and have chosen to keep my property for my family and not rent it out - which I could make a killing doing so. Maybe I'll change my mind and just say screw this city. [AsburyPark] Re: Hello
Welcome Chris, The Casino is no longer owned by the City of Asbury Park. It is owned by a private company that holds the redevelopment rights to the beachfront area. Other than the part that sits on the sand which is going to be taken down, the rest of the structure is going to be saved. The downside is, there is no timeline as to when it will be redeveloped. Therefore, there is still time for some activism in that regard. If you are interested in coming down to look around and catch up, feel free to give me a call and I'll gladly meet with you to help you in that regard. [AsburyPark] Hello
Hello Group, I was born and raised in NJ and spent most of my summers in Asbury Park in the 1960's and seventies. I now would like to call Asbury Park home. I have not purchased a home yet (still looking); however, I am personally invested in the history of the city and want to lend my support to help save and/or restore some of the city's unique structures. I am particularly interested in what is currently happening with the Casino building. I would appreciate any information about its current status and anyone associated with the struggle to either restore or rebuild this beautiful historic building. I currently reside in NYC which may prevent me from being present at all current local functions. I do however plan to come to Asbury next week for the City Council and Planning Board meetings if they are open to the public. Can anyone shed some light on this matter? Will it be worth the trip? Any suggestions or names of people who I can meet when I do come down? Who else can I contact to get more information about the Casino? Thank -you and I hope to meet some of you one day soon. An Inconvenient Truth!! [AsburyPark] Re: Donating to Asbury Park Little League - Should We?
--- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, "justifiedright" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: >Grounded by the state Posted by the Asbury Park Press on 11/6/06 For a school district that spends more per pupil to educate its students than any other district in the state, it should come as no great surprise that the Asbury Park school board was set to spend $14,000 to send 10 people to an education convention in Los Angeles before the state insisted it limit that number to four. What is surprising is that the board wasn't more sensitive to how that might look to state education officials charged with monitoring its performance and to taxpayers in suburban districts who regard Asbury Park as the poster child for reckless spending. You would also think the board would have been mindful of the brouhaha created last year when it voted to take legal action to recover $8,316 from five board members who went to a National School Boards Association conference in San Francisco, in violation of a state directive limiting trips there to three members at a cost not to exceed $4,671. The current board, which approved the Los Angeles trip last month, was bent out of shape that the state stepped in at the last minute, forcing the district to eat $2,350 in nonrefundable tickets and food. "This is something board members were very upset about," board President Robert DiSanto said at last week's school board meeting. Members deplore "a waste of money," he said. Yahoo!
