[AsburyPark] Neptune Shooting
What's the odds she's from Asbury?? Neptune motel site of homicide Posted by the Asbury Park Press on 12/20/06 Post Comment NEPTUNE Neptune police and the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office are investigating the homicide of a woman at The Crystal Inn on Route 35 this morning. The motel is roped with police tape, with a least a dozen markers strewn throughout the length of the parking lot. A tow truck was seen arriving in the lot. Monmouth County Prosecutor Luis A. Valentin said it was too early to release further information about the woman's death. Keith Brown and Margaret Bonafide Yahoo! [AsburyPark] Partners' Community Meetings?
I just got this Google alert which is dated "Feburary [sic] 7, 2005": "ASBURY PARTNERS HOSTS FIRST IN A SERIES OF COMMUNITY MEETINGS TO DISCUSS THE PROGRESS AND CHALLENGES OF CITY'S REDEVELOPMENT" _Ocean Front Asbury_ (http://oceanfrontasbury.com/news/challenges_city_020705.htm) Did such meetings continue on a regular basis? Where and when posted?

I have called the police on occasion, and even though I live in an area that sees a fair amount of patrol cars, it doesn't really deter much of what's going on here. And that's the problem. And as for the property I mentioned, sure, I can report it...but what I don't get is why doesn't the city notice it, and act first? Same goes for the trash and litter? And why is this throwing trash, like food containers and liqour and beer bottles on peoples lawns, only seem to afflict Asbury? I've lived in plenty of places, and i've never seen it this bad. To me, throwing your trash on somebody elses lawn shows a complete disregard for the world you live in. --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, "2fine4u" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > You might be able to get code enforcement to look into the property > you spoke of. I still can't wrap my head around what Terry Weldon was doing. Between his AP job, his Fire Pension and his OT Mayor job, he had to be pulling in ligit close to $200K, plus health and a car. Now if that's what you are making and you live in Locust, maybe you have to steal to keep up with the Jones'. But in OT? Man he seemed on easy street to me. Add to that the lifestyle thing - as AP City Manager and Ocean Mayor, the two towns he loved the most, he was absolutely the man, the local star, everyone was happy to see. I'd love to have been in his shoes! With all that going for him, legit, why why why in the world go crooked? Any psych majors out there to help me with this? --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, "dfsavgny" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > Schoor, 67, of Manalapan, is accused of paying bribes to former Ocean > Township Mayor Terrance D. You might be able to get code enforcement to look into the property you spoke of. It sounds really terrible to find an individual lounging on your steps of all places. Maybe the police can get a patrol car to surveille, your area. The "traffic", should stop, after seeing a police presence. You are entitled to feel safe on and in your property! I feel sorry that you have to clean up after people. Where I live is becoming hazardous, also. I love to walk, but I'll drive to Ocean Grove and walk, before I walk here, now. I used to walk from Deal Lake to Sunset Lake, every day and would encounter a man, I'll only call "50 cents", because that's what he'd ask me for, every day. This was on the corner of 8th Ave. and Webb Sts. At first he startled me. Before I moved from the area, I gave him a dollar. When I walked, all I carried was 1 I.D. and my housekey, nothing else. The area was 1 block off Kingsley Ave. This was 14 years ago. Pretty area, but scary to walk in. I feel for you to have to put up with this situation. Please complain to the authorities and City Hall. What can you lose? --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, "Hinge" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > What the hell is going on here in Monmouth County? > More so, where are all these guns coming from? > This is getting to be scary. > Another thing that is beginning to bother me are the aggressive street > people in AP who've been coming up to me every night when I walk my > dog. [AsburyPark] Bribes et al
Schoor, 67, of Manalapan, is accused of paying bribes to former Ocean Township Mayor Terrance D. Weldon and Stephen D. Kessler, former chairman of the Township of Ocean Sewerage Authority, between 1998 and 2001. U.S. Attorney Christopher J. Christie said Schoor gave out the bribes while his firm, Schoor DePalma Engineers and Consultants, was seeking to get and maintain large contracts with the sewerage authority. The firm has been cooperating with the federal investigation and is not accused of wrongdoing, Christie has said. Larry Loigman, a Middletown attorney who lives in Ocean Township, attended the Monday night council meeting and was instrumental in persuading the governing body to hold off on appointing Schoor DePalma to the new contract. "The township is wrong entering into a continuing contract (with Schoor DePalma) when there's this possibility," Loigman said. What a tangled web we weave. Too many related parties in AP for comfort. [AsburyPark] Breaking news, possible murder in LB...same day as a murder in Neptune
What the hell is going on here in Monmouth County? More so, where are all these guns coming from? This is getting to be scary. Another thing that is beginning to bother me are the aggressive street people in AP who've been coming up to me every night when I walk my dog. They ask for money, and when I say no they get pissed off. I'm sick of it. The liquor bottles keep showing up on my lawn every day, and i'm getting sick and tired of cleaning up after people who don't give a damn about our community. A few doors away, a house that's undergone renovation is nearing completion, and not too long ago I had a conversation with the owners about the crime and mess in our neighborhood. They, like others are of the opinion that once the AP redevelopment is completed, the crime and mess will just go away. I tend to disagree with that, because people are not going to want to come live in a war zone, not come to live in a garbage dump and there are people in our community that just don't care about their city. Go down to the boardwalk, near the Stone Pony, and there's a little shack that used to be part of a mini golf course. The door on it has been wide open for awhile now? Why? Why is that building even there? Even worse, even though it was recently painted, new graffiti has appeared on it. What does it say? "Crack Shack" Another thing I don't get is there seems to be no crack down in our city about littering and about property owners not maintaining there property in a proper manner. Case in point, the group of bungalows on the corner of Kingsley and 1st. 2 of the inhabited ones aren't so bad, but the third has some kind've "cat person" living inside. I've never seen this person, but take a walk by there sometime. Trash everywhere in the bushes and on the sidewalk. Empty cans of cat food all over the place. And a bunch of feral cats just wandering around. And in the empty lot next door, new empty 40oz beer and liquor bottles. I know i've mentioned much of this before, but nobody ever responds to my posts about it. If anything, somebody will tell me I should leave if I don't like it. I've said it before, and hopefully I won't have to say it hear again. I believe that part of our cities problem is the appalling state of some area's within it. The litter just makes our city look terrible. It is a proven fact that just the mere act of cleaning up and area lessens the reoccurence of litter, and crime. This was done with great success in NYC back in the 70's, where boarded up buildings had their window covering replaced with more attractive things, and large scale community efforts were made to clean things up. As far as I can tell, AP has no such community based clean up effort. If there were, i'd volunteer. By boss came to visit me at my home the other day, and he offered me money to move out of town, because he was dismayed by the condition of my neighborhood, and was disgusted by being approached by a prostitute when he was leaving. Sorry if i'm rambling. I made a huge leap of faith when I returned to the shore and chose to live in AP, and the things i've mentioned just plain bum me out. Last night, when returning from my dog walk, I found a nasty looking street chick nearly passed out on my front steps, nodding off on whatever drug she was on. This shit has got to stop. Yahoo! You know, I don't think anybody needs to be out of here, even though I've called for certain people to be ignored in the past, and even though i'm having second thoughts about being involved. I think that we have a pretty interesting group of people here, in fact, someday we should all get together and meet. It would be interesting to see the faces behind the thoughts, althought i'm not all that great to look at. --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, "2fine4u" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > You're the one starting these threads about what YOU like and dislike, > then you twist everything to justify what you posted! If Tommy doesn't have me thrown in jail, for disagreeing with him and making threats on imaginary charges! I agree also. I didn't want to mention it, but the Haunted Mansion has a story of its' own! My daughter, was about 10, when she went through the Mansion with her older brothers and his friends. They were all athletes on the track team in Neptune, in the late 70's. She was a tom-boy, for one thing, but she turned into a frightenend wimp, when the mechanical rats, ran across her feet. She jumped sky high on her brother's back and rode his back for the rest of the ride! Hilarious, was how they told the story! I was horrified when it burned down! I also remember the Super-Slide; one of the first on the Shore! Used to watch my kids, come down the thing! Beautiful! Sad isn't it, how what you knew, becomes a faded memory? If you don't have photos, to show people, how would they ever know? You sound like a really thoughtful and caring person. Tommy, I have to say that Sharon's comment is a low blow that you don't deserve. I've seen you become more fair and balanced on this MB in recent times, and it's the mean spirited attacks that plague this board that make me want to give up my membership. [AsburyPark] Re: TCN-The Ghoulish Sounds of Asbury Park
Sharon, I totally agree about Long Branch. I'm sure many people will disagree with me on this, but I find the focus on retail and housing at the former beachfront to be depressing. I hate that our society has morphed into being so money and retail centric. Long Branch bores me. Red Bank bores me. At least when I lived up in Bergen county, near Hoboken I could find fun in just wandering around, and taking my dog to the dog run in Hoboken. Maybe i'm cheap and I don't like to spend money, but the truth is, I don't need anymore stuff. Stuff doesn't make me happy. Music, and nature and art make me happy. My dog makes me very happy. The Long Branch and Asbury boardwalks also used to be a fun place to hang out. In fact, I worked at the Haunted Mansion for one summer for a whopping $3.10 an hour, and it was one of the most enjoyable jobs I've ever had. I'd hate to be a kid in 2006. To me, it's all a big competition. You need to have the coolest cell phone, an iPod. A computer. Once you get to be old enough to drive, you can't drive an affordable used car, you have to have something cool just like the other kids. And all the connectivity that they have now...myspace, IM, text messages...do more in my opinion to isolate rather then connect. I also think that kids of today probably have shorter attention spans then people of my generation because of things like that. I feel like all the fun is being taken out of our area, and replace by reasons to spend money. Jack --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, "2fine4u" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > So, I'm crazy? [AsburyPark] Re: But The City won't call Christmas "Christmas"
No, I didn't miss it, but you went on a rant about the City renaming the Christmas Season, "Winter Holiday". Hanukkah and Kwanzaa, occur almost back to back and they have special meaning for those that exclusively celebrate one or the another. I celebrate all 3, because before we were Christians, Jesus was a practicing Jew, himself. People of African descent have chosen, to have an alternative celebration of their heritage, rather than have a commercialized holiday and because I AM also a Roman Catholic, I celebrate Christmas as the birth of Jesus, the Christ-child and beleived to be the Messiah. These are MY core beliefs and I celebrate the diversity of ALL 3! You have an opinion on everything, believe that YOU are correct, then get bent out of shape, when someone gives THEIR opinion. You are NOT the be all and end all, on everything, but you never cease to amaze me with your marginalization of anything, YOU think anyone has done against YOUR beliefs! I will continue to speak out, whenever I think I should. No, I didn't miss anything you said. [AsburyPark] Spreading Holiday Cheer
I recently sent out the e-mail below, asking people to give donations to several poor families that I am working with at Holy Spirit Church. I am resending this because we have not met all of the needs and I am hoping that there might be some people reading this who would like to make a donation. We are only a few days away from Christmas and I am hoping you can help me to help these families have a great Christmas morning. Thank you for your consideration, Leslie Kretzu Cookman Ave. _ Hello everyone - For those interested in making Christmas donations to poor families: I have been working with families at Holy Spirit Church over the past year, and have become aware of many families that are in a financially dire situation. Holy Spirit is working with parishioners and others to gather toys for the children. If you are interested in participating in this toy drive, please call the Rectory at 732.775.0030. I'm writing not for the toy drive, but instead for donations for the most basic needs of these families. If you are interested in getting involved with these families, there are countless options - from making anonymous donations of any amount (see below) to meeting the children and their parents to deliver the donations yourself. The donation would go through Holy Spirit Church (a nonprofit, in order to make the donation tax-deductible for you) and of course, 100% of your donation would go directly to the recipients. Again, if you wanted to meet with them and deliver the donation yourself, I'd love to facilitate that too. Donations that these families could use: 1.) Food - This is the most important item. Gift cards/ gift certificates to Foodtown, Wegmans or another grocery store nearby for any amount is an excellent gift. You can also redeem your Foodtown points for a gift card, which wouldn't cost you anything. 2.) Clothing - Most of the children wear second hand clothes or old clothing of varying conditions. I have seen several children wear summer clothing in the winter. Just this weekend on a very cold day, one little girl was wearing flipflops. While second hand clothing is fine, it would be so very nice for these children to be able to go to the mall and pick out something special that they like, which has not been worn in by someone else. One scenario could be a shopping trip with the child(ren) and parent or a gift certificate to a store in the Monmouth Mall. 3.) Education - I am currently looking for sponsors for a little girl who has applied to Sister's Academy on Springwood Avenue. The tuition is $600 for the year, for 4 years (grades 5-8). If you are interested in donating to this cause (pending her acceptance, hopefully soon), please let me know. 4.) Toiletries - Soap, toothpaste, shampoo/conditioner, razors, shaving cream, laundry detergent, and dish soap are all needed items (Costco sells these in bulk, which would be a great way to maximize your donation dollars or gift cards to RiteAid would be greatly appreciated.) 5.) Health care - a gift certificate to RiteAid will go a long way for over-the-counter medicines. My ultimate goal here is to bring together people who want to make donations with Asbury residents who need their help. If you would like to meet the family personally, we can set up a meeting place at either Holy Spirit Church (2nd Ave in Asbury), my home or one of the cafes / restaurants in Asbury (think sharing a cup of hot chocolate and talking for a half hour or so). If you would simply like to make an anonymous donation, please contact me (information below) or Holy Spirit Church (732.775.0030). I'd like to include the financial situation for three of our Asbury Park families that I know well: One family of 5 are political refugees from Haiti and are currently living in a home provided by the Church which is slated for redevelopment, at which point they will need an apartment, which they currently cannot afford. The mother, 42 years old, was diagnosed with colon cancer during the first week of November, and is struggling to make ends meet. Anything you could provide would be helpful. Another family of 6 has moved three times in the past several years because the house they rented was sold. The mother, 37 years old, works in Asbury Park cleaning offices. She doesn't have a car and walks everywhere (given the lack of public transportation in Asbury), and she is literally exhausted every time I see her. She has to pay for a cab in order to do grocery shopping, which adds up. She could use any support that you are willing to give. If you are looking for a more substantial tax write-off, she needs a used, reliable car. I hope you don't think I'm asking too much - I just want to put all options on the table for you to then decide your own level of potential commitment. One last family shares an apartment with anothe
