Things are looking good at the HoJo pavillion. The new lights inside look good at night too. The whole thing started out looking pretty bad, just a fast job (it still is). [AsburyPark] Bravo to Justified Right!
The approaching Blue Moon won't be full until next week, but it must account for my agreeing with Tommy DeSeno this week. "Once in a blue moon" as they say. In "Political Lesson," he refuses to apologize for "taking on a priest" and holds fast to his JSRM opposition.Bravo Tommy! Great letters too in triCity -- from "Aunt Charlotte" about not bringing "coals to Newcastle" and from Richard Schlossbach about the arts. And Carolyn Curtin's letter in The Coaster which responds to some of our local clergy. More arts, books, retail traffic, revenue producers -- yes! More tax-exempts -- no! More accountability and efficiency from our 159 current tax-exempts -- yes! I've no intention to re-open any old debates here, so for those who disagree, please see _http://www.pangloss.com/seidel/Shaker/_ (http://www.pangloss.com/seidel/Shaker/) . ** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

--- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, "oakdorf" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > Werner > == OK, You encouraged me to read the article, I couldn't attend the presentation although I purchased an advance ticket. First of all - The "green spaces" are intrinsic to the character defining features of Asbury Park. They are extensions of the public roads and are a part of the City design. Scenic views, Open space, Set-backs between buildings - all have an intrinsic value. Although a developer may not recognize it. Being Public Property there certainly should be restrictions as to the uses allowed. Traditionally, "soft uses" were typical such as lawns, gardens, statues, pony rides, mini-golf, kiddy rides, etc. Certainly buildings and structures would deminish the value of those spaces and should not be permitted. I cringed at the comments about towers, water slides, etc. In the current context I would say that no development at all, aside from lawns, gardens and statues should be permitted. Focus on the real needs, the Pavilions, Cas, ConHall, etc. Of those are attended to, there will be no need for "green space development" In fact the green-ness will actually add to the value of the buildings. Most folks just remember the honky-tonk and kiddie rides - THAT IS NOT Asbury Park - it was just a phase we went through based upon economic depression that should not be repeated. Asbury Park can and shopuld rise above that collective memory. There is ample opportunity to restore the boat rides in Wesley Lake, and build an observation tower or ferris wheel at the Palace site. Not every scrap of land needs to be "Activated". Many times being passive is of greater value. Werner Yahoo! Oh yeah? New top coat for Ocean Ave.? How come a perfectly redone street, (Sewell Ave.), was dug up to run new sewer lines, I was told, has never been repaved? The front of the 600 & 700 block are like a war zone! Was told over a year ago, it was the gas companies job! OK, what about us? Anyone who cares to ride up the street from Main to Grand Ave., will know what I'm talking about! It's a mess! The school blocks off all the streets in the morning and afternoon, with the worse crossing guards in the county! Ride through here anytime and you'll see the "checkpoint charlie" barricades!
