Fred,
You put faith in Duany who put in 7 days to REVIEW the DEVELOPER'S
PLAN. This is the guy who said we don't need parking. I know who
Duany is. Only God can work in 7 days (6 actually, He took the day
off on the 7th).
Planning firm to release results Jan. 23
ASBURY PARK, Jan. 10, 2002 -- The city's new oceanfront planning
firm will make its recommendations public on Jan. 23 following seven
days of intensive meetings.
A public input session will take place on Sat., Jan. 19 beginning at
10 a.m. at the Berkeley Carteret Hotel. A representative of the
city's new planner, the internationally renowned firm of Duany
Plater-Zyberk, came to the city this week to arrange the sessions
and more fully describe its methodology to members of the City
Council.
The firm primarily does its work by what is called the "charrette
process." According to Duany Plater-Zyberk, a charrette is "an
intense period of creative activity, lasting five to seven days,
during which a broad range of involvement in the project design by
the client, consulting professionals, municipal authorities, and the
public is encouraged. The process allows for positive communication
about community priorities, regulatory requirements, and
administrative concerns during the design phase. As everyone
involved in the projects contributes to and, therefore, owns part of
the final designs, charrettes elicit a positive response from the
community and regulating agencies. The charrette process also
reduces the project design time and produces a series of precise
graphic documents, including a Master Plan, Detail Plans, Building
Types, Street Sections, and Codes."
City Manager Terry Weldon said that Duany Plater-Zyberk would send a
team of 12 to the city to work on the project.
