I was also reading the entry for the Empress, which doesn't have the friendliest reviews either. Some of the Empress comments complain about the noise from the bar, and say the hotel is very biased towards gay customers, and the ongoing construction next to the hotel is a problem. Alot of people might not be willing to stay at a hotel that has reviews of not being able to sleep because of noise from a nightclub until 2 in the morning... and even if people arent bothered by that, the Empress is a much smaller hotel anyway. So for most people coming to Asbury Park, the BCH or the Empress both might not seem like viable options... With the BCH, there is a comment about the bar not being open. Hasn't the hotel been under this management for two years now? What the hell are they waiting for? As of right now, they dont seem like they're doing the best job of keeping up the hotel. Yahoo! If The Berkely is paying attention, the negative reviews are actually a good thing in disguise. If they pay attention to them and make the right kind of changes, they can turn the bad reviews into something good. That's the beauty of Tripadvisor.com. If you do a google search on any vacation location, tripadvisor.com reviews always come in with the top results. It's constructive criticism at it's finest. Any property or location that doesn't pay attention to such things is living in the past. The rear of the building could also be use some attention. Service level is just OK, however I found the rooms clean and comfortable. At the current price it is a bargain.unless you are turned off by ap.in which case you propably would not want to stay there for any price! Trip advisor is very effective in avoiding "insiders" from posting false or glowing reviews of places to help tip the balance to make a place sound better then it may be. They have many ways of avoiding such a thing, and if it's discovered that a property is doing this, they'll ban the property from being listed on their site. I love Trip Advisor. I've been using it for years. One of the good things about it is when a property finds out that people areposting negative reviews, they usually will implement changes in response. They do that to make it APPEAR the site is updated on a regular basis when in fact, it's not. However. the exterior of the hotel could really be spruced up - at least the grounds. Some people understand the power of Internet marketing, others don't. For mall consultant's fee, I can review some interesting stats gathered from various websites - about ap - like asburyboardwalk.com. Sometimes, data is gold. You just have to know how to utilize it.
