Here's one thing to think about. I wonder if the City is dragging their feet on this because people perceive there to be a lull in crime at the moment. That's the wrong attitude to take. We still have problems here that need to be strongly combated. We can't wait for another incident like what happened in Newark to happen here. Outsiders still fear AP, and the surveillence system will help to quell those fears, and change things for the better in the city. As for a lull in crime...i'm not sure if that's the case. I think we still have drug dealers riding around on bicycles. As long as drugs are in this town, so are gangs, and so are the guns. And the knife wielding bicyclist is something we can not tolerate. Last night, I saw 2 police cars racing down 1st Ave. at high speed, so something must've been going on. Finally, there is something i've been thinking about lately. Yes, it's about Library Square Park, so bear with me. I'm beginning to think that the local drug lords might have enlisted some kids to do the vandalizing there. By vandalizing the fountain, they turned out the lights. Since the fountain went dark, i've seen an increase in discarded drug bags around the fountain. Coincidence? Maybe. I also think it's terrible that the city is ignoring the lighting in the park. The central area is completely dark at night. Wow! Thanks for the info. I'll give her a call, and when I get home tonight I'll think further about the things you've mentioned. I would like to help the park, the city and the APHS. I do think they have a problem with email concerning their website. The primary way for newcomers etc. to become aware of them is via the web, and although they have a phone number, I tend to think that most people would try to contact them via email first. Perhaps their email is going to recipient that isn't checking their email. They could easily have it forwarded to another address. I really do care about the park. The lighing at night is terrible, and although the fountain is terribly damaged, changes could be made to make it attractive again. There is a very similar fountain in the park in Ocean Grove near the footbridge. It's no longer a fountain, but it is beautifully landscaped and draped with beautiful flowers. Kids also love that park. This past weekend, there were a bunch of them there playing, which was great to see. On the other hand, it sucks that the park is usually littered with discarded drug bags, and the occasional used condom. And let's not forget the people who use it as a public bathroom.
