I really hope not, they really degrade the whole area. Isnt there enough space in the real buildings to run businesses? I think they quit after the first overhang was done. They aren't uniform in look - glass doors, roll-ups, the office one. It's a clever concept that needs work. The problem with the 5th ave pav, they put two units in there that need all that venting Some stores likfe the "extra" space as a way to display - like gallerys or trendy stores. But you can also think of a corner newstand in NYC or Jack's 99cent store in midtown - floor to ceiling front to back ever inch filled. One of my first jobs - Channel Lumber in Ocean Twp - stocking shelves before they opened (and later closed)...we were given computer diagrams of how all the "new" packaging was designed to maximize shelf space. You can fit alot in a small space. Pay less rent and utilities. That's why the pop-ups are interesting, a table at the flea market is interesting and a web page or web storefront is interesting.
