[AsburyPark] Re: Kindred Spirits
BB... Are you kidding me??? I guest hosted for Maureen that Thursday night. There were about three or four hundred residents giving their piece of mind towards CAFRA. There was one lawyer from Baltimore, and one Architect who said something to the effect of "Throw the National Historic Designation into the Sea". If I recall, I asked Maureen about the lack of the Save Tillie presence. As my favorite scene in my favorite movie goes: "Who's being naive here, Kay?". --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, "bluebishop82" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > I understand what your saying there Dan the Man. I would take my kids pat the original, on a dark, gloomy, foggy night, at last night and park there. Scare the shit out of them. Now what? Maybe we find some skeeballs and see if we can toss them onto the water tower or into one of the holes in the casino roof. You're back on. Yahoo! No sir. I've never advocated for the taking of a building that an individual owns and loves. You've only ever read where I asked for buildings owned by the public to be knocked down - the Palace and Casino included. I dig the Wonder Bar. I even found use for the Tillie face there. The night I took my sons to meet Maurice Craft we stayed afterward and I taught them to throw snowballs at Tillie. Even promised them an ice cream for a nose shot. You see - there really is somehting for everyone here in AP. That's why it supports diversity. --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, "oakdorf" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > bb, if it were upto you, you'd be owing me those beers at the Tiki bar, > cause the wonderbar would be long gone > Yahoo! I understand what your saying there Dan the Man. The "outsiders" I was refering to is not anyone around here today. I'll tell you who I did mean: The day of the Cafra Hearing in the Paramount (years ago now) there was a public comment portion. As soon as it was announced, there was a rush of people who formed a long line at the microphone. It seemed curious to me that I didn't recognize anyone. The first 10 or so people to speak as I recall announced themselves as being with this or that Preservation Group from Washington DC or Trenton. They all spoke about how CAFRA should ditch the whole plan because Tillie and other such stupid buildings weren't being saved, and talked about history and character, blah balh blah. Some of them even had the nerve to speak on behalf of the "People of Asbury Park" while they were holding maps to show them how to get here. Really galling was that after lining up to speak first, they all left. Not one of them stayed to hear what anyone from Asbury Park had to say. I was livid. Here there were real stakeholders (residents and businesses) in the audience who wanted their City moving forward for the first time in 30 years, and a bunch of outsiders with maps show up to try and stop it in the name of their poreservation hobbie. Those are the folks I was refering to. --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, "dfsavgny" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, "bluebishop82" > wrote: > > > > Seems it isn't just in Asbury Park that the hometown folks want to > > knock down the old buildings and the outsiders want to save them. > > > > Hat tip to home rule and modernization. > > > > http://tinyurl.com/n73nq > > > Don't see where it said in the story that the preservation group > were "outsiders" as you put it.
