1. Maybe let's start by saying f the government, we don't need you. Gogg start.
AP can start by cutting a check for this years fiscal support - schools,
government, grants, housing and helping the poor of AP.

2. uh, the government provides housing, for example, a family of 4. A mother
and three kids. $1600-1800 a month in rental payment is $20k a year in rent
paid by - the government. What';s that mean if the person had to work to earn
it?

3. Add to that medical care (which does exist), schooling etc...

Never mind.

the guy on the plane next to me last night told me he was a rocket scientist.
Actually he said, he was an "anti-rocket scientist". Kept me "occupied" for
over 2 hours. he was a physicist.

like he said. when the engineers or grad physicists apply or get a job at
Lockheed, he tells them "you are all the best, the brighest straight A
students..."

Kind of what my dad told his students and me (except the straight A part)

What you should do, if you go to "protest" or organize or whatever, have a
cookie jar there for the Food Bank and for every beer you down, toss a buck
their way.

2011-10-27 Thread Educating for Justice
As someone who spent all of yesterday in Colonial Williamsburg (I had a
lecture at the College of William and Mary) and part of today in Manhattan
with the Occupy Wall Street community, I take issue with some of the
criticisms being levied here on both Occupy Wall Street and the fledgling
Occupy Asbury Park.

First, movement building takes time. I can attest to this with near fifteen
years under my belt as a full-time educator/organizer in the world of social
justice. To charge that the OWS group has not seized the moment is to not
completely understand what is happening. From what I saw and experienced
today, measured against my personal experience in grassroots organizing and
my years of study, I will attest that this is how revolutions begin. It is
disorganized and messy and organic. You are watching history. Wait and
see.

Second, with regard to the Occupy Asbury Park crowd meeting at Bond Street
Bar (and thus my mention of Colonial Williamsburg), the American Revolution
was discussed, debated, and planned in part at the Raleigh Tavern in
Williamsburg. Do not discount this effort. Again, wait and see.

Peace, JWK

I agree completely. I think OWAP and the Bond street thing are just jumping on
a bandwagon without thinking before you leap.

At least in NYC, they are there 24/7, doing the best they can and getting tons
of attention. Sitting around a bar isn't exactly protesting.

Absolutely. Too many causes dilute the entire movement. Carrying signs that say
"Tax the Rich" don't help much either. Vilifying people because the government
blew it with our tax codes isn't going to solve anything.

In my opinion, they should be occupying Capital Hill, and the offices of
Congress and Senate members.

As for Occupy Bond Street...absolutely ridiculous. Here's how that one will go
(it's tonight by the way)
1) Get to your nice warm, safe and comfy bar with great comfort food
2) Drink up!
3) Yell about taxes, or the government
4) Drink up!
5) "Hey man, we are the 99%"
6) Drink up!
7) Stumble home and watch some TV

And this is coming from a guy who was initially excited by OWS and supportive
of the movement.
