[AsburyPark] Re: Organ - AC .v. AP

2008-08-16 Thread Jack Pitzer
Actually, that Peddler you mention was called Budget Bicycles, which is a
business I helped
to build. The original building held a laundromat. It was an off-shoot of the
Peddler, but
came many years after the Peddler was in Long Branch. I'm pretty sure the
original Peddler
location was in West End, in a circular building at the end of, or near,
Brighton Ave, long
before there was a DJ's in the same area.
As part of the crew that brought Budget Bicycles to life, I was given the task
of painting
their sign. Of course, I sucked at art, or sign painting, or design back in
those days. So I
painted a horrendous depiction of a bicycle in neon orange paint. Somebody from
"Ad
Age" magazine got ahold of that pic, and for one brief week, it won the award
for "Ugliest
Sign in America"!
Now that's something to be proud of.

I can't think of the name either. There were bikes from ceiling to
floor.  Name your bike!  I bought my kids bikes in Belmar from DJais;
Fuji's and 1 French Gran Tour 12 speeders. They were $800 each.
Bought 4! The baby had a little red Columbia bike, for $100. Looked
just as good as the others!

I think it was called "Man Brothers" or "Mans Brothers" or something like that.

Does anybody remember the bicycle store that used to be on RT. 35 in Eatontown,
south
of Monmouth Shopping Center? It had a 6 seater bike in the window. It also had
a pipe
organ inside. I bought my first bike there. I miss that place.

Thats why there is little interest to restore it. They can make
plenty of money without it, why spend money to restore and then have
to maintain the thing. Its sad but true.

Convention Hall's organ would be much more usable on a daily basis
than Boardwalk Hall's organ. Picture the sounds of the organ
