It goes by the state law. In most states you do not have to show ID.

[AsburyPark] Re: Police Remove Billiclub Panters

2008-11-05 Thread sharon_b283
So did my son! He was told by the board of elections in Freehold last
week, that if his voter registration card hadn't arrived by Friday,
last, to come in to Freehold, which he did. He relates his story here:

When he arrived, there were Sheriffs officers, checking to see if
anyone arriving had outstanding warrants. Voter suppression, anyone?
Armed with his drivers license, birth certificate, other photo ID, a
copy of his application to "change" his voting address, in order to
vote in NJ. (My son had been living in Maryland for the past 5
years). Copy of his old voter cards, from NJ and Maryland, a lawyer
approached him to challenge his validity by asking several questions,
(he claimed to be from the attorney general's office). Another lawyer
stepped out into the hallway, asked my son, did he have anyone
representing him, which he said, no. This lawyer was from the ACLU!
He asked my son one question, what was your last NJ address before you
relocated? He answered that he lived with me! A quick computer check
verified all, I'm stating here.

He was issued a paper by the judge presiding over cases like this one
and was told to take it to his voting district and he would be allowed
to vote. But this isn't the end. When he arrived back in Neptune,
they tried to give him a provisional ballot, again! They tried to
take his paper, given to him by the judge, to which he said, "I'll let
you see the paper, but I'm not giving it, to you! Some
shilly-shallying went back and forth. The moment my son started
dialing up Freehold, they allowed him to vote, as you and I did.

A nightmare? It could have been. A vote could have been lost, but I
taught my son that perseverence pays off! His name wasn't on the
voting rolls, although he had changed his address, months before the
election. Remember, Freehold is run by Republicans and they had
probably "deep-sixed" his change of address! He is and was, a
registered Democrat. Had been, since he turned 18, when he also
registered for the draft in 1980, when there was none, but by law had
to register.

When I hear that Obama never served his country, I retort that he
didn't have to, since there wasn't a draft, was a 1979 graduate in
Hawaii, was at Columbia then Harvard, then he served the Chicago
community as an "organizer". Look at the "machine" the "organizer"
put together to win this election. He impaled Palin and slaughtered
McSame!

Maybe we can route the Famous Four in Asbury Park, come May! Keep
Hope Alive!

Categories: Election
Poll problems and poll problem spin

As on every election day, there are two separate, and almost
disconnected things going on: There are state-by-state,
polling-place-by-polling-place, legal and administrative battles going
on over ballots; and there's a spin war at national and statewide
television, in which the campaigns try to set the election day
conditions with a coordinated message.

A bit on the spin side:

The Obama campaign's message today: Everything's going fine.

The McCain campaign's message: It's a mess.

And so, while the McCain campaign and RNC are blasting out stories
about alleged Democratic shenanigans, as you'd expect, they're also
blasting out stories like this one, about run of the mill voting
problems in the Democratic stronghold of Philadelphia.

This is, presumably, because Obama wants voters to think it'll be
quick, easy, and reliable to vote; and McCain's camp wants those
marginal voters, who are likely Obama voters, to stay home and avoid
the hassle.

ONE FOOTNOTE: The McCain camp also sent out, and Drudge is driving,
the story of Black Panthers allegedly intimidating voters at a
Philadelphia poll site. The story is disputed; indeed, it's such a
heavily Democratic precinct (90% in 2004) that it wouldn't make a huge
amount of sense for Obama backers to intimidate anyone there.

But more broadly, I wonder what the goal of pushing that one is
(regardless of its details, which will likely be untangled tomorrow in
the Philadelphia press). On one hand, the idea that Democrats are up
to dirty tricks may energize the Republican base; on the other, I'm
not sure warnings of physical danger are the best way to get marginal
Republicans to the polls.

[AsburyPark] Re: Police Remove Billiclub Panters

2008-11-04 Thread Jack Pitzer
Man, it's obvious that you are a lawyer who refused to admit any wrong doing,
always.
For that, I'd probably hire you if I ever get in trouble, which is doubtful.
So yeah, I was wrong about that women's comment. She did say "arab", but that
doesn't
erase the fact that McCain's response could be taken as I put it. You can't
deny that
possibility.
And yes, there are instances on youtube of Obama supporters outside of a Palin
rally in
which this young, white male said that Palin supporters where intimidating and
threatening
him. I've already posted the video here before.
And, despite they way you want to interperate it, Obama isn't a Muslim. That's
an hard
fact. And even if he was a Muslim as a youth, that doesn't make him, or being a
Muslim,
bad. And unfortunately, many soundbyte influenced people in this country think
"Muslim"
= "bad"
You also had Palin supporters chanting "Vote McCain, not Hussein" at a rally
earlier this
week.
We also had a McCain supporter arrested by claiming that a black person
attacked them
and carved a "B" into her face.
If you are going to point fingers, you should be fair and self-critical of some
of the sad
things that some McCain supporters engaged in.

To call attention to it is to fan fears? I'll alert the media.

As I said, for years seeing lawyers in 3 piece suits engendered claims
of intimidation.

Militants with billiclubs is atrocious at a polling place.

No - just the ones I see evidence of. I've listened to Democrats
scream intimidation for years when Republicans send lawyers to
polling booths to make sure nothing illegal goes no.

Here is a guy with a billiclub, and it's a big ho hum?

That's highly hipocritical.

Obama supporters go to Palin rallies?

Your facts are wrong. She said he was an Arab, not a Muslim. The
response from McCain that he is a good man was obviously to counter
that woman's tone and demeanor. She was about to say something very
bad about him.

Rather than let her blurt out something bad, McCain did somehting he
should be credited for: He grabbed the mic from her so she couldn't
insult Obama, and beat her to the punch by saying he is a good man.

Only liberals can turn a compliment into an insult, because they need
racism like bees need honey.

Go watch the exchange on youtube and if you are being objective, I'm
sure you'll agree.

I can state with absolute certainty the person I voted for will not
be elected President tonight.

He'll be my President.

Anyone who does a great job will get a kudos from me.

Then he will have done better than the Democrat congress who have
been in control of the money the past 2 years. What do you think of
the past two years?

> Are you going to continue to bash away,

I don't bash. I analyse what he says. It looks like bashing when I
prove him wrong.

I always admit when I'm wrong. I'm wrong so infreaquentlfy you are
likely to miss it.

That's a predominately black precinct. Were they trying to intimidate
blacks? Watch the subsequent video from Fox saying no one said they
were denied entry to the polling place.

But I agree, not a good thing. But what does it mean to you? Why bring
it up? Fanning fears of a takeover of the US by blacks WHEN Obama
wins? There are a whole bunch of reports of voter suppression by the
right. Equal time.

2008-11-04 Thread Jack Pitzer
Tommy,
Of course you know all kind of schnanigans have occured all around this
election.
You also have people intimidating Obama supporters at Palin rallies.
You had an anonymous email go out that convinced people that Obama was a
Muslim,
which he wasn't, and in the process, McCain himself offended all of the more
the 8 million
American Muslim citizens when, at at McCain rally, that women called Obama a
Muslim,
and McCain responded by "he's not a bad person", which can easily be
interpereted as
"he's not a bad person because he's not a Muslim", as if all Muslims are bad
people.
You and I can post youtube clips all day, for days, but we are now just hours
away from
having a new president.
I'll ask you the same thing I asked Mike...what if Obama wins? What if he wins
and does a
great job? What if he wins, does a great job, increases the worlds respect of
America and
actually moves us forward out of the mess that the last 8 years have created?
Are you going to continue to bash away, or, one day, will you be willing to say
"I was
proven wrong" if in fact, you were?
