[AsburyPark] Re: Someone Tell Me Why... Motion = to move a question Basic!!!
Geeze Tommy... "A Motion" Is a moving question! Did you sleep in Parlimentary Proceedure in college? Oh, Iam sorry... Law School? "I so move" it's a question, that requires a second, to be discussed. The only protocol Keady would have needed was to be given the floor by the chair of the meeting. I wasn't there. Was he given the floor? If he had the floor, he could do whatever he wanted at that time. He "moved" a question, as a motion for funding for a depressed part of the community. Stop trying to make Keady out to be the "Asbury Devil!" LOL God's love shall be shed abroad to us all... Amen KB Yahoo! well if I were to accept Tommy's private non participating public monies policy, than how would you quantify and even qualify the public private application of eminent domain in redevelopment or mass revitilazation. As for Government money going into the coffers of private organizations - you should understand that CDBG monies go into private hands all the time. Affordable houseing projects transfer lands to non profits and the non profits enter houseing agreements with for profit contractors in more cases than I would dare to mention. Just ask yourself one question... cash or considerations of value, like tax abatesments... now ask yourself, Is Fishman and the others, Non Profit or For Profit companies? Your concern is unfounded. If that wasn't enough, than what about privitazation of governmental city services, agents fees and lobbiests. What about paid treasurers and professional contracts??? The asbury Park council could have easily contracted The West Side group to perform a service with the funds, and Tommy you already know this. Keady's motion was extraordinary, yet appropriate, if at the least to get the ball rolling. I am really surprised Fishman didn't offer to donate the $100,000.00 to west side. That would have been a great jesture from one end of the community to another. Kevin Brown PS - Yes I have run for elected office, and Iam now planning on running for State Senate in the 11 th in 2007. I think what is desperately needed is out of the box thinking on the way government meets the needs of it's community. Legal and inventive solutions, should never be shunned because they are unique. www.votekevinbrown.com Yahoo! [AsburyPark] Re: Someone Tell Me Why...
Kevin are you intentionally missing the point? No one is saying they don't want to give the West Side Community Center $100,000.00. But you can't give away $100,000.00 to a private company on a motion, on a matter that isn't on the agenda. Please tell me you know that - you've run for office yourself. Jack - Kevin's post is a perfect example of why it was a cheap trick. Because there are people out there like Kevin, they will think that only Keady wanted to help the West Side because he rasied the motion and the others didn't becuase they didn't support the motion, when in fact they couldn't because it was procedurally wrong. Kevin proves the point more perfectly than I could say it. --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, "Kevin Brown" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > Tommy with all due respect, I think you are tainted and should not be > attempting to act as a nuetral journalistic observer in these matters. > > I base this on your compensation recieved from the 4 council members > anti Keady - to whom you owe allegiance too. > > Also, the facts associated with your post, are apparently the > thoughts of a mind that has not focused fairly on the question you > post. Tommy with all due respect, I think you are tainted and should not be attempting to act as a nuetral journalistic observer in these matters. I base this on your compensation recieved from the 4 council members anti Keady - to whom you owe allegiance too. Also, the facts associated with your post, are apparently the thoughts of a mind that has not focused fairly on the question you post. You say; you are going to "refrain" from making a decision until you hear from others, yet in your post you make your concrete opinion well known. Giving the community on the west side $100,000.00 is a token amount. The West Side has needed proper funding for many years. Turn your own tables over for a minute. Having Keady chair, should make the transaction more palatable, unless you do not trust keady? I say this to Giordano in Long Branch all the time; "You have to decide whether you want to be a councilman or a banker, whenever his bank and his role as a councilman/development agent conflict. He has yet to get the message, and remains in questionable status between his Bank and His elected office. You on the other hand - can not dare represent a nuetral tone between the 4 councilman in with the MOB and the one outside (Keady) when you are being paid by the inside MOB! (My MOB reference is likened to a madding crowd and not the sicilian black hand of corruption in local towns and governments.) These are just my thoughts, and you should take them beyond a grain of salt and a dash of tobasco! The best way for harmony to come to the asbury park council is to recall one of the 4 and add another member like Keady. That will give you some protection from the status quo of the last decade. Well, you may have a point there. But trying to save Asbury isn't a crime, and he seems to be a pretty humble guy in my opinion. I sincerely doubt his is look for personal gains by wanting all the credit. Hey, are we ever going to discuss anything else here besides Jim Keady. [AsburyPark] Re: Someone Tell Me Why...
For a government to just gift $100K to a private company, you would certainly want the matter addressed as to what they are going to to with it, is it earmarked for particular purposes, is there budgets, real contractors with insurance, etc. Then you would want a hearing on the matter with notice to the public. There are equal protection issues too. Imagine if they could on a whim just hand out $100K to a private firm. Imagine the next week some councilmember saying "I move to give the Boy Scouts of America $100K" or "I move to give the gay and Lesbian Q-Spot $100K" or "I move to give Tommy $100K for Columbus Day Festivities." I would think to give out that kind of money you would have to have a stated grant program with qualifications to meet, otherwise the penchant for fraud, abuse and patronage would be high. I think JK is savvy enough to know he can't give away $100K of public money to a private firm on a motion. That's why I say he really put his fellow councilmembers in a bad postion - they had to turn it down, but he made it look like they don't care. Very cheap trick. --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, "Hinge" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > Well, you may be right. > Only question I have then is why is voting it down the responsible thing? > --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, "justifiedright" wrote: > > > > The problem is Jack if making that motion (that he knows can not be > > passed) is somehow showing support for the West Side, isn't he > > putting his fellow councilmembers, who have to do the responsible > > thing and vote it down, in the postion of being mistaken for people > > who have no commitment to the West Side? > > > > That's why it's such a dirty trick. > > > > I wish JK would address that issue on this board. > > > > > > --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, "Hinge" wrote: > > > > > > With all due respect, I disagree. [AsburyPark] Re: Someone Tell Me Why...
The problem is Jack if making that motion (that he knows can not be passed) is somehow showing support for the West Side, isn't he putting his fellow councilmembers, who have to do the responsible thing and vote it down, in the postion of being mistaken for people who have no commitment to the West Side? That's why it's such a dirty trick. I wish JK would address that issue on this board. --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, "Hinge" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > With all due respect, I disagree. I certainly would not approve of giving the funds without ample investigation, analysis AND public hearing. I think I answered it fairly as I can without knowing all of the facts. Yahoo!
