[AsburyPark] Recreation

2007-10-11 Thread denise
You guys are really funny thanks for the laughs. The bottom line is could they
have spent less money the answer is yes. Could they have used the money more
wisely yes but, the money was there and the people were hollering about no
recreation and the water spouts and the pool at the boys and girls club where
not everyone could swim at was not enough. So they got rid of the accident
waiting to happen pool (hole in the ground filled with garbage) and restored it
to a safe water park. So let's take on the next project that the kids can
enjoy and make sure we get more for our money. Anybody remember a pogo stick?

find all those tax dollars and all that charity money for all those
programs in AP.

Still no noticable recreational facilities created for kids in AP. YMCA
building could of been purchased and other lands.

[AsburyPark] Recreation program for AP teens

2007-08-02 Thread Hinge
Three teens held in thefts from cars

AVON: Police have taken three Asbury Park boys into custody, charging them with
entering
vehicles and stealing items from them, authorities said.

Around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, Bradley Beach police warned surrounding communities
that
four boys had been seen trying to open car doors in their borough.

About a half-hour later, Avon Lt. Bob Kepler spotted one of the boys in Avon,
but the teen
ran away, Police Chief Terry Mahon said.

Then Avon Patrolman John Riley spotted another boy, but he also ran, police
said. Police
chased the teens over the railroad tracks and into Neptune, and with help from
a Belmar
canine unit, caught three 17-year-olds, Mahon said.

All three teens had items, including loose change and electronic devices,
stolen from
vehicles, he said.

Around the same time the boys were spotted by the officers, police began
receiving phone
calls from Avon residents whose unlocked vehicles had been entered. Police
received three
such calls Tuesday night and got a fourth Wednesday morning, Mahon said.

Police are continuing their investigation, but Mahon said all three boys are
expected to be
charged with burglary, theft, resisting arrest and eluding police in Avon.

Meanwhile, Bradley Beach police plan to file three counts of burglary and theft
charges
against the boys, who are also accused of entering three unlocked vehicles in
that
community, said Bradley Beach Police Chief Leonard A. Guida.

[AsburyPark] Recreation in today's APP

2006-11-13 Thread oakdorf
ASBURY PARK â€" A new city recreation program is getting under way this
month, with offerings in swimming, basketball, bowling, wrestling,
tennis and hair braiding, in the most organized effort that city hall
has made for its young people in decades.

Most of the programs run for 15 weeks.

Note, in the article, a city resident comments on the "violence" in
the the city.

Finally a rec program. They should use some of those affordable
housing $ (that must be sitting somehwere) to fix the little league
field. Pretty soon, there should be some more payments into the fund.
What is the balance of fund???

Dan,

Larry Fishman is not the only asshole (your words).  You can twist this anyway you want but the fact is I did not say there was "no place" for recreation.  I asked if the current programs were maxed out and I opposed using money set aside for low income housing to be used for recreation programs instead of police.  I have made this clear several times.  Please find my post where I said that I opposed recreation.  The proof is in the pudding (your words).   Seriously, your monopolistic approach on this board will only detract people with a difference of opinion.

From today's APP. Now those who think that recreation has no place at the table (Tommy, Allan) can disagree with the APPD on this. Take them to task as you did JK.Pugh died at a time when police, the city and some volunteer groups have strengthened programs for city youth — from biddy basketball to boot camp to swimming and Police Explorers."We think we're taking a lot of positive steps," said police Inspector Chris Van Buren. But the recent gun violence reflects the lack of programs available the past two decades for the older teenagers and young adults, whose formative years often became shaped by struggling schools, few job opportunities and little recreation.

[AsburyPark] Recreation Geniuses

2006-10-19 Thread oakdorf
With all the money tossed around and talk about recreation you still:

1. Have no playground with a swing set on the East side. (That I
recall, except the beachfront)
2. Have no public ball fields. Zero. (again, less I don't see) (exclude
high school)
3. Have how many playgrounds on the West side - North of 3rd and South
of 3rd, south of Asbury Ave. How many have grass or a "safe mat"??
Swing Set?

Waht place would someone feel comfortable sitting around with their kid
picking a flower or wathcing them run around?

ZERO.
