Re: I need help installing cyanogen mod on my Nexus 7 2013

Hi.Sorry for the tripple post.Anyway, I have successfully installed Cyanogen thanks to the help of a friend and aa Windows 7 VM.It pisses me off that people stopped supporting device drivers in Windows XP, but oh well.Anyway, I just have one final question. Why doesn't my version of Cyanogen come with Pico TTS?I don't really care either way, but just wondered why I don't have Pico as a choice in tts settings.

Re: I need help installing cyanogen mod on my Nexus 7 2013

Hi.Sorry for the double post, but I guess I'll just do this on windows.Where can I download the nexus google drivers?I guess I can manually install them on Windows XP to get the nexus root toolkit to work. So, to install Cyanogen, do I need to unlock the bootloader and root or just unlock the bootloader?I'm assuming I also have to root since I guess I can use rom toolbox light. So, where do I get the correct nexus 7 drivers that allow the tablet to communicate with my VM?Also, do I need to install the Android SDK?Ug, this is confusing the hell out of me.Jailbreaking is much easier than this.

Hi.I don't see anything about help in the program? It just has the select device and model.I don't think this is going to work since Windows won't recognize the tablet. Can I just do this accessibly on OS X?I really don't want to deal with Micro crap Winblows anyway.I guess I just need to unlock and root, since I can apparntly install cm using rom toolbox light.

Re: I need help installing cyanogen mod on my Nexus 7 2013

You actually shouldn't use the cm installer if you want the most out of your rom. The cm installer installs a custom snapshot build that I don't believe is one of the milestone series, definitely not a nightly. Once you are rooted, you can get rom toolbox and use rom installer to install cyanogen mod that way. You will need to have the rom, and the gaps file. The gaps file can easily be downloaded from rom installer's database, and I recommend downloading cm on your computer as the built-in downloader on rom installer really can't do well with large files. And also, whether you use the installer or not, you would have had to have sighted help anyway because the accessibility shortcut does not work at all in the setup screen. I, however, managed to work around that, by backing up a copy of the settings.db in the /data/data/com.android/providers.settings/databases directory, and after I flashed cyanogen mod, I copied that over to my device via droid explorer and
accessibility worked perfectly from then on. I've had trouble updating cyanogen mod installer builds anyway. The first time I tried installing cm, it was through the installer. Immediately after I installed it, I went into check for updates. It said my system was up to date, but apparently it didn't completely override the google ota update service, because it said that android 4.4.3 "stock rom" was available for download. Then, finally, a cm update appeared. The update wouldn't even download until days later, and when I went to install the update, it booted into recovery, then right back into the version I was using before. Apparently, recovery had displayed some error message. And most importantly, the installer build was pretty unstable on my device. Even with pico and e-speak, two of the fastest speech synths in the world, it was a bit slower than my stock rom. However, when I installed a nightly myself through recovery, it was a whole lot better. This i
s why I don't suggest anyone to use the installer, especially when there are people, like me, Bill and Liverobo to help. Because, you won't be really happy with the installer builds. As for drivers, well, it might be incompatible with xp.

Hello.I'd not say xp was microsoft's best os yet, far from it actually. But that debate is for a different topic I suppose. My memory is failing me here. In that toolkit program I linked you too, if you click help, I believe it has a section called how to install nexus drivers. I think the reason your device isn't being recognized in Debug mode is because your system is trying to use the wrong driver. If you follow the process in the installing drivers section, this might fix your problem.Sorry my descriptions are becoming extremely vague; it's been a while since I've last used that program.

Re: I need help installing cyanogen mod on my Nexus 7 2013

Hi.Ok, so I found something in the device manager called mtp and nexus 7 which both said this devicei s not working properly. So, I removed these drivers and plugged my tablet in again. However, I'm getting the same error. It brings up the found new hardware wizard and I choose next after choosing install the software automatically.I get an error saying that the driver did not install because the wizard did not find the necessary software.I notice that this behavior only happens if I have the tablet in USB debugging mode.If I uncheck that option, the device connects to Windows just fine and shows up like an external drive. So, what to do?Is XP just too old? It wouldn't surprise me.Everyone is giving up on the best Microsoft OS yet and no one seems to care.Oh well.

Hello. It sounds like you have some broken drivers installed for your nexus. I'd suggest going in to device manager, show all devices included ghosted  devices and delete all of the drivers that have to do with your nexus 7

Hi.When I connect my nexus 7 to my virtual machine, it plays the XP failed hardware sound. This only seems to happen if I turn on USB debugging. If I press the autodetect device and build button, nothing seems to happen. What do I do?

Re: I need help installing cyanogen mod on my Nexus 7 2013

Hi ChrisIt's been a while since I've done this, so I hope this helps. I can tell you how to unlock the bootloader using your windows xp virtual machine.First, install this: http://goo.gl/XrlqcUThis is the nexus toolkit, which I found extremely useful while installing custom roms on my Nexus 7. Once installed, open the program and connect your device. I don't remember this next part word for word here but there should be an option that says something along the lines of Unlock Bootloader. Choose this, and follow the instructions. When it asks you to confirm the action on your Nexus, press the volume up button, followed by the power button. After a few seconds you'll get confirmation, and your bootloader will be unlocked. At this point I had to get sighted assistance to flash the rom, but the installer that @superantoha mentioned wasn't around so that may be able to assist you in flashing without sighted
assistance. Also, I do not know if the installer preserves the google apps. When you flash CyanogenMod manually, you will not get the google apps. In order to fix this, find the archive of apps, usually called GAPS.zip or something similar. This must be flashed onto your device at the same time as CyanogenMod.Again, the installer may do this for you and greatly simplify the process.Hope this helps.

Re: I need help installing cyanogen mod on my Nexus 7 2013

Hi!You might be better off using the Cyanogen Mod installer. It's alot easier than using recovery because you will only need sighted assistance to unlock the bootloader if it's not yet unlocked on your device.hth
