Ok, Sounds great since i prefer musicality before extreme detail. But a good balance between them is the best. Now i have an tube driven preamp and big Class A monoblock to my 3 way speakers. Did like my tubedriven CDP before and when i connected the Squeezebox in my system i think i lost some of the musicality. Therefore i will buy an extrenal DAC. About the powersupply, what good powersupply can i find? I need 230V. Does not have the knowledge to DIY one so i think i will have to buy one. I DIY speakers and cables but when it comes to electricity my knowledge is about zero. -- mangew mangew's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10488 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=33429 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Linear power supply for SB3 and power filters
An upgraded power supply to the SB... and then you want to connect it to your power conditioner, which offers different isolation for analog and digital devices due to the noise they may inject back. It's an easy choice with devices that use AC directly - the amplifier's analog, CD player digital etc. With the SB power supply, I have it connected as a digital, but I wonder if there's reasonable doubt given the fact it basically takes DC and the upgraded power supply itself may be doing isolation. Not that I'll really hear the difference. :-) -- pablolie pablolie's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3816 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=33416 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

Try looking here Goto http://www.hosfelt.com/ click on 'adapters' in the left scroll area click on '3-5VDC Adapters' in upper left I bought one from these folks, although they no longer list the one I have. What you want is a 5VDC supply with at least 1 amp, regulated. You may end up having to swap the output jack for one that fits the SB, but that should be easy if you know how to solder. You also need to make sure that the polatity of the jack is correct for the SB. -- bobschneider bobschneider's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=33443 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

I've seen the same problem since upgrading to the 6.5.1 server, but chalked it up to a server transcode gap-skipping bug (with various manifestations reported on the forums here; my writeup bug #4742). As both a Nuforce and Bel Canto dealer in Australia, I would go for an ice power amp (eg.Belcanto REF1000) over the Nuforce. I am afraid that the Nuforce build quality and other issues lead me to recommend Belcanto over Nuforce. The Nuforce also generates enough RFI to take out FM reception at 10 metres. I have not read this whole thread but since I sell the Benchmark, Lavry DA10 and Transporter, and having previously owned a the Trivista 21 I feel I am in a better place to comment than most. My pick of the bunch, if connected directly to a power amp, the Transporter by a long shot, connect via a preamp, the Lavry and Transporter come out pretty much the same. The Trivista 21 is one of the poorest sounding and sterile DAC's I have ever heard, I sold mine quite quickly after getting it, was happy to see it go. Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Modifying the Squeezebox 3
thats fine about the superReg board. I wasn't sure where you were. The 3.3Vdd is the digital side of the DAC. My understanding is that the only change from SB2->SB3 was that the regulator in question was changed from a switcher to linear reg. So exactly as shown in that diagram (http://www.audiocircle.com/circles/index.php?topic=20977.msg185744#msg185744), except the first reg is now linear. So the DAC Vdd shares it reg with "wireless/IO/logic". It is not derived from the 14V line, and is not cascaded from the 5V Vcc reg as shown on the dac datasheet. Not sure how critical Vdd is, but definite room for improvement. -- parrydave *modded squeezebox 3/arcam cd92t/arcam a85/arcam avr300 dynaudio contour 1.3mkii/dynaudio focus 200c/mk k-4/rel q150 pioneer pdp-507xd/sky+/harmony 525* parrydave's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6079 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=19822 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

As soon as I had the multimeter in hand I realized the probes were far too big not to short things out, so I let it sit overnight before mucking around. I'm not positive, but it looks like the output for the regulator goes to a trace on a different layer. > Then you have a few options in terms of how to wire in new Vdd and Vcc > supplies. Easiest is to just remove the existing regulators and use > the pads for those regulators as the entry points for the new power > supplies. My main concern right now is whether replacing Vcc would get Vdd off the switcher as well, using a single superReg at U5. That brought up the question of whether they need to be on the same rail for startup reasons, which may be a silly question for all I know. I would rather use a second super regulator for the spdif out. I seem to remember reading a comment by sean about a chip in the clocking circuit that was easy to superregulate by lifting a pin and decoupling, so that may be my next project :-) -- Skunk Skunk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2685 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=19822 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Modifying the Squeezebox 3
Thanks for your input GaryB. Regarding the regulators... In the photo, the only bits that look like regulators are U5, U6 and U8. I found a post from Sean Adams (link below) which identifies the 5V and 9V regs as Texas Instruments UA78L05ACPK and UA78L09ACPK. Looking at the datasheet for these, the "PK" package looks a lot like U5 and U6 on your photo. Also, I can just about see what might be a "5" written on U5, and "9" on U6. U8 looks to have "L33" or something written on it and is possibly linked to U5 - hard to tell on photo. My guess would be that U8 is the 3.3V reg and is fed from U5 as in the DAC datasheet application notes. Also, referring to an old schematic of the DAC section from Sean (link below), the power supplies each have 100nF, 10uF and 220uF filter caps. So C7 and C9 are something to do with it too. http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=43522&postcount=10 http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=141404&postcount=5 -- parrydave *modded squeezebox 3/arcam cd92t/arcam a85/arcam avr300 dynaudio contour 1.3mkii/dynaudio focus 200c/mk k-4/rel q150 pioneer pdp-507xd/sky+/harmony 525* parrydave's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6079 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=19822 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Inguz Equalisation not gapless?
I have been using Inguz's room correction / equaliser. It appears that on some tracks it can insert a small gap between tracks, or even miss a little at the end of a track. Am using FLACs encoded by EAC. If I disable Inguz in File Settings then the gap problem goes away, so the FLACs themselves are ok. I don't think it is meant to do this. Any ideas? I am running it over a wireless network on 2.8GHz Windows XP PC with nothing else going on. -- rbl rbl's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4517 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=33419 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] external DAC for Squeezebox
Hamlet;186343 Wrote: > Are you saying that you prefer the SB2 over the more expensive & sexy > Sonos, if so on which qualities is this based, and do you find any > utility in having both of them? Yes I do prefer the SB2 over the Sonos personally. Surprisingly it is the much maligned SB remote that I find far more convenient to use with one hand when lazing or lying in bed, than the heavy Sonos Controller which needs both hands to operate. I know the layout of the SB remote very well, and seldom need to look at it. I also like the nice display on the SB2 unit which can display as much or as little information as I want it to. In the earlier days, the SqueezeBox did Pandora, which I love - and the Sonos did Rhapsody, which was also nice to have. Now the SB does both, so that's a huge advantage. With respect to sound, I think the SB has an advantage when played through its internal DAC but the Sonos is pretty decent too. When played through an external DAC, they are pretty even (I think the SB might have a slight edge when played through an external DAC - but it might be a psychological thing so I wouldn't bet my life on that one). Finally the geek in me simply loves to tinker with the whole Slimserver + SB setup. But I do like the Sonos as well and I don't have any desire to get rid of it. I live in a joint family, and my sister prefers the Sonos - it becomes much easier for her to add music to different parts of the house using Sonos Zone players if I leave my setup in its current state. Also my SB often travels with me, when I am halfway across the world as I am now. So its good to leave the Sonos setup in place. There are a couple of other threads that deal with this: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=23490 http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=33224 http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=33248 -- Nikhil Nikhil's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=993 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=33380 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
