The way it works is not completely intuitive. Test signals only play when you're playing music, and changes only start at the next track (not immediately). See if it's behaving "correctly": - Go to the "test signals" menu and select a signal (noise, sweep, etc) - Press ">>" (fast-forward) on the remote. - Sometimes you need to fast-forward twice (for reasons I haven't figured out yet). -- inguz inguz's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1139 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35244 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

The test signals only play when music is playing - and sometimes you need to skip forward to the next track to start the process. I don't understand the arguments against ALAC on the basis that it's closed and therefore Apple may cease to support it. Is it really reasonable to suppose that all of a sudden all software capable of playing ALAC will disappear, leaving ALAC users up a creek? The free open-source program foobar2000 will batch-convert ALAC to FLAC, making it the work of a few moments to tell your computer to convert your entire music collection (which could take a few hours with current CPU speeds, but so what - let it run over night). Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Importing Bel Canto to th UK
I had a look at importing a pair of A1000s myself last year. I'm not wholy sure, but I don't believe that they auto adjust for voltage. Note however that you do have another option, which is to buy from another country, such as Singapore. I found a dealer out there who'd sell me one at the same price as the US. Singapore are already 240v. Note that the transport boxes aren't small, so getting them past customs could be "fun". -- Mr_Sukebe SB+, Behringer 2496DEQ, Bel Canto DAC2, Bel Canto Evo2i, Impulse Ta'us, Coherent cables, Stillpoints Mr_Sukebe's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10609 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35221 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Linn Records now doing FLAC
As an experiment with my SB3, I tried changing the "flc flc" line in convert.conf as described in bug report # 4886, and that completely eliminated the stuttering when streaming a 96 KHz Linn Records flac file to the SB3. I can run the large VU meters screen-saver with no problem too. Apparently recoding the flac stream to compression level 0 drops the workload on the SB3 sufficiently that it no longer has a problem. For the 96 KHz 24 bit files from Linn Records I now see a streaming rate of approximately 2700 kbps! On the other hand, there remains a high noise floor coming out of my speaker's tweeters compared to the same file down-sampled to 48 kHz using Audacity. I think the SB3 is converting/decimating the 96 kHz stream into a 48 kHz stream in a way that does not result in a high-fidelity output (dropping every other sample without a digital filter?) Regardless, it does not sound right, although the stuttering is taken care of. I was interested in playing 96 kHz files, because I was thinking that eventually I might get a TP, but I want to listen to some of those 96 kHz files now:) I don't want to download the 44.1 kHz versions, and then purchase the higher quality versions later. I was thinking I could download the high-quality versions now, and play them with the SB3 today, and then take advantage of the higher quality using a TP later. Hmmm - that doesn't quite work. The 96 kHz files sound much better converted to 48 kHz BEFORE they are sent to the Squeezebox - and that means keeping two copies of this type of content. Maybe a good 48 kHz digital filter put into the firmware would fix the noise floor issue? -Ron -- Ron F. *Squeezebox setup:* wireless SB3 -> CI Audio VDA.2 DAC + VAC.1 PSU *Main rig:* NAD 7600 + NAD 2600A -> Phase Tech PC-6.5 speakers *Headphone rig:* Headroom Max -> Sennheiser 650s *Other stuff:* NAD C542 CDP, NAD 6300 Tape, Monster 5100 Power conditioner, Outlaw Audio cables Ron F.'s Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5616 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34985 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
