Wow, this is one of the greatest features of this new format -- no need
to rip with EAC! Don't get me wrong I think EAC is great, but drag and
drop is much easier. Also, no need for wasting time doing transcoding.
Presumably all the metadata is correct, too?

As my CDs now never end up in a 'CD player', I wish I could order any
music CD as just a bunch of perfectly tagged FLAC files (and maybe
192kps AACs for my iPod)...

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Χ Ο Δ Ε (CODE) format

2008-07-29 Thread esbrewer

I personally think Mellencamp is a great choice for something like this.
He sells a lot of records, and has a history of releasing
well-engineered recordings - despite the loudness race etc. In
addition, a small but significant portion of his audience (at this
stage in his career) might actually be concerned about sound quality.

If Burnett were to have debuted this stuff with an emerging pop or rock
artist - no one would have cared. And I think asking people to buy yet
another remastering of a classic recording is getting long in the
tooth.

When artists that other artists respect become early adopters of new
technology, such technologies have a better chance of taking hold.

I just wish I could play the hi-res version of this recording with my
SB3. I really enjoy it, and based on the generally positive reviews
its getting I'm apparently not alone.

[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] My daughter needs a stereo/cd player for ipod

2008-07-29 Thread Kyle

She wants something to hook her ipod too, but it also needs a cd player,
so Audioengines won't do. Any suggestions?

It won't work. Transporter is going to output at the clock rate you
feed it. You are the clock source!

The Pace-Car measures the clock rate after the S/PDIF stream is decoded
to I2S and before the data is clocked into the FIFO. It will detect
44.1, 96 and 192. I think this should work.

You can either use IRBlaster, or you could get a macro-programming
remote like the Logitech Harmony series.

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Power on Transporter from Ampiflier

2008-07-29 Thread sebp

It's a SqueezeCenter plugin that allows the Squeezebox Classic /
Transporter to send other devices some infra-red codes, using a IR
emitter connected to the headphone (Classic) or IR jack (Transporter).

I use it so that my Classic can power my amp on/off when I switch it
on/off.
