It just was not a noticebale enough improvement for me in my setup to
justify the cost difference between the SB3 & TP.

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Transporter on the way vs my exsisting SB3

Comparing digital sources is a funny thing. I tried A/B'ing digital
sources and they all sounded the same with AB tests. But it only takes
a couple of days to realize the sound differences.

If your experience is like mine, the Transporter stopped my endless
upgrade itch. In the past 2 years I have bought 3 different DACs to
mate with my SB2, including Benchmark, Lavry and beresford. All left
me want for more.

To me the Transporter sounds more open and more detailed than all of
the above. I am no good with describing sound but for me a piano
sounds like more like the real thing, and violin sounds less edgy.
Overall I am a satisfied customer.

Since you have bought one you'd be the best judge. I would be
interested to know what you think.

As an update to this I found some nice looking used speakers on

when they do, I won't be in a position to compare them to similarly

I also came across this review:

The reviewer seems very impressed, and those speakers would certainly
make a very neat solution when paired with a squeezebox.

With a decent aerial and good source material, FM should outperform DAB
or internet radio. However, the source material quality is getting a
lot worse - I now find that the only decent quality is Radio 3 evening
stuff, as even this station is frequently cursed with compression
during 'drive time' programmes. The ability to get decent bandwidth
internet radio is a compelling advatage for the Squeezebox.

7.3.2 plays DTS and AC-3 files without trouble in my setup, which tells

For the digital output variable at max and fixed at max are exactly the

well here are my thoughts after the TP arrived.

I hooked the TP up to my 2ch proceed preamp via the analog connections
just as i had my current SB3 connected to utilize their internal DACS.
I then level matched the Sb & TP so my wife and I would not be fooled
by which is better/worse based on how loud one might be. We both
listened to dozens of differenent tracks and we both switched the input
back/forth between the two. To be perfectly honest, I struggled to
notice a difference. I believe the TP had a quieter noise floor and
maybe a bit warmer/natural sound but again very very minimal
differences.

I realized that day how well the SB3 performs considering its cost
compared to the TP.

therefore I am selling the TP and keeping the SB. Its Brand new,
silver, and was only used for less than a few hours. All oringinal
packaging & etc are included. I would like to get around $1550 plus
shipping costs & etc for it.

Thanks,

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Transporter volume control setting

2009-01-27 Thread Rocket

I have a related question, that someone here might have an answer for.

I use the digital outputs from the TP with an external dac and a
pre-amp. I also like to use the analog outputs from the TP for
connecting to a set of headphones I use occasionally.

At earlier firmware releases the digital output could be "Fixed" while
the analog output leveles still could be adjusted via the remote.
That's not the case anymore.

It would be useful for me to set the the TP to variable output volume
(adjusting both digital and analog outputs as it is now) and leave it
at maximum volume exept when using the headphones.

I wonder, if I use variable volume setting at max volume (0.00 dB),
will the signal quality be exactly the same as if I set it to fixed, or
will the fixed setting be the best quality ?

Regards

An anechoic chamber could drive you mad, it generates such a feeling of

RF radiation does more than upset electronics.

Both my comments were said tongue in cheek.
