Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Why cannot you make Transporter support 176.4 and 192Khz/24?
If you want to work on insane sample rates, your best bet is to talk to John Swenson who is working on doing this for SB Touch, since the firmware for that is open enough. The ip3k firmware can never be open-sourced unfortunately, as it contains proprietary code from Ubicom. -- andyg andyg's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3292 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=76496 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

Many companies offer those for free, for the duration of a course of study (6 months or so). There's usually a lot of restrictions on use though, and of course absolutely no commercial application is allowed. Sadly, I expect they would take a dim view on someone working on updates to the firmware of a commercial product... -- DCtoDaylight Audiophile wish list: Zero Distortion, Infinite Signal to Noise Ratio, and a Bandwidth from DC to Daylight DCtoDaylight's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7284 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=76496 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

There are better DAC chips, faster DSP chips, faster and cheaper embedded CPUs, even faster NICs. Michael, in my opinion it isn't going to happen. I do not believe this, as I saw recent posts by Sean Adams, CPU could be lowered by lower compression ratios of FLAC, or just using WAV files. Also, the code might be optimized. 5 years ago 96/24 was quite good, it still good enough for today, but to be competitive, this piece shall support up to 96/24. Yes - 10dB is perfectly adequate. Apparently Endler make some very high quality (expensive) balanced attenuators. I Used to use Rothwells (unbalanced) - also perfectly fine - but for what is essentially 2 resistors in a plug... a bit expensive :-). In all seriousness, there is very little point in paying premium price for attenuators. At line level, a pair of resistors is going to do nothing to compromise your sound quality. Think of the attenuators as a fuse or as insurance - there for your protection, and much cheaper than an amp or speaker repair/replacement. -- Phil Leigh You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it ain't what you'd call minimal... I think I read somewhere that there are already attenuators on the board. But you need to open the case of the transporter to access the switches (am I right about this?). Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Transporter and Tact RCS 2.2X
Phil - Many thanks for this advice. I completely agree that I'm running a huge risk with this - I just assumed that the Transporter (having been around for a couple of years now) was stable enough to warrant direct connection. I used to run a SB3 to Benchmark DAC1 to Simaudio P5 preamp, bt found the sound SO much better without the pre-amp that I sold it and injected directly from the DAC1. I am using the balanced outputs of the TP. Using an inline attenuator seems a neat way to avoid blow outs, but is a reduction of only 10db enough? When I was running the audio out of the tact comfortable listening was around 71 on the display, now running it out of the TP it's about 81. So I'm guessing I've still got room even with attenuators to go a little further if needed? Which attenuator would you recommend - Rothwell, or better (if makes a difference)? -- twheatley twheatley's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5167 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=70166 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Transporter as preamp
I ran my TP straight to power w/no pre for 2 years. Because I used balanced outputs, I needed to use an attenuator (Endler stepped was excellent) to control the gain. Worked very well, although I eventually added a really nice pre and it sounded even better. Anyway, yes, it is easy to switch to the digital inputs. Scroll through the menu to digital inputs, hit select, scroll through menu to pick desired input (whichever input to which you have connected your cd player), and hit select. That's it. Easy as pie. TP is highly recommended. [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Transporter as preamp
I have read that many are using the Transporter as a preamp and connect it directly to active speakers or to a power amp. Now my question: is it possible to easily select different imputs in a way that I can let's say connect my CD player via optical output to the transporter and use the built in DAC of the transporter? Can I change the input with the touch of a button (or a turn of the weel) from Squeezeserver to CD player in a WAF (or girlfriend accepable factor) way? This would be really great if possible and a reason for me to buy a TP :-) Thank you for your help ntropy -- ntropy ntropy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33247 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=76483 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

This was already confirmed by Sean Adams in other thread as a bug. I have power conditioner that displays voltage on its LCD, it is very stable, between 229 and 231V. There are two issues a) Transporter voltage measures are not precise: it may report 236V while the real voltage is 230V b) The message ALWAYS happens when I change the tracks, and usually when I change the tracks with very high bitrate, such as 192/24 I think it never changed with CD-quality, 44.1/16 tracks -- michael123 michael123's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=23745 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=71526 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

Not quite. What Callesroe is saying is that IF for any reason the TP "forgets" its digital loop setting, it will go direct from the TP volume (@ 100%) to the TP DAC, missing out the loop (with the TACT and its volume control in). Now the TP is playing @ 100% into whatever is connected to the TP dac output... By the way, this is NOT an approved setup. If you are playing any digital device, you MUST have some form of digital or analogue volume control or attenuators between the output of the digital device/dac and your power amplification. Otherwise any bug or unexpected behaviour could cause your system to play at full volume which could blow your speakers and/or amp. Are you using balanced or unbalanced from TP to the W5? If unbalanced, set the internal attenuators in the TP, if balanced you will need to source some inline attenuators. -- Phil Leigh You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it ain't what you'd call minimal... Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Transporter and Tact RCS 2.2X
Not sure I understand - I don't seem to have that problem. I always leave the transporter out at 100 and use the tact to control the volume that's fed back into the transporter. For what you suggest to happen the transporter would have to control the volume digital output of the tact. My setup is: TP digital out to Tact Mini digital input (terminal 1) Tact mini balanced output to TP digital in TP analogue out to Simaudio W5 amp Sounds awesome. -- twheatley twheatley's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5167 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=70166 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
