Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] 24/96 Lossless material being downsampled?
MAD is a decoder for mp3 claiming superior decoding due to using high accurately 24bit and is build into the device. Using lame as decoder is said to be of less quality. Not that it really matters. I bet people will hear lame on server streamed as wav is better then MAD native cause of CPU load ;) Next step is MAD decode on server... Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] 24/96 Lossless material being downsampled?
Just a wee quick question about settings? Trying to get MP3 to be decoded on teh server rather than the Touch if possible. My Advanced/File types/ settings are as follows.. ** My Advanced/File Settings/FLAC reads: Flac: Native MP3: Flac/Lame PCM: Flac My Advanced/File Settings/MP3 reads: MP3: Disabled ** Now, I set MP3: Disabled as I had assumed adding lame.exe in the SB install folder and adding a custom config would tell squeezecentre to use Lame to decode MP3 files... BUT, when setting MP3: Disabled (in the MP3 NOT Flac section) my Touch says "cannot play file type"??? If I set MP3: Native (rather than disabled) it would probably work, but wouldnt it mean MP3 decoded on teh TOuch natively rather than using Lame on the server? *Lame installed in \server\Bin\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread *custom-convert.conf insalled in \server\ -- Gazjam Gazjam's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=18604 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80778 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] One for the gullible ?
hey, don't knock it till you've tried it :P The best I've heard yet was some fool (apparently an audio engineer by profession before dedicating himself to making hi-fi and speaker stands) trying to tell me that placing my NAS on top one of his "sound structures" would noticeably enhance the sonic performance of my system. This despite my protestations that the devices are networked and the fact that the NAS and Transporter use my home electrical circuit as a network and are located about 40m apart in entirely different sections of my home. Needless to say the conversation ended quickly and I never purchased a sound structure, not the rear wall speaker mounts for my home theater that caused me to call him in the first place. -- audiomuze '*puddletag: A tag editor for Linux (that happens to run on OS X)*' (http://puddletag.sourceforge.net/) audiomuze's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33613 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80786 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
