Any chance of collaborating with dynaudiorules and rolling his tweaks

ATM technology is not relevant to domestic users. It is/was used by
Telecom operators in the backbone network where they had different
types of traffic which had to be transported over high speed links
(e.g. SDH/SONET). The nearest a domestic user will get to ATM is when
using ADSL as many ADSL connections terminate in a ATM based DSLAM.

As a technology ATM is now out of date and there are other backbone
technologies taking over.

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Tomato router - optimisations for Touch?

2011-08-10 Thread Mnyb

The Qos is it not meant mostly for the internet conection, i used it
when i had ADSL to gEt webradio while downloading torrents, but inside
ones own network i hardly see the purpose .
With my current 100/10 fiber conection it serves no purpose
i run tomato on an old wrt54gl, this router is not fast nor modern (
but very reliable and stable ).

So all my ethernet cabled stuff have static ip and are conected by
gigabit switches to each other, the router is conected to one switch ,
so no internal ethernet traffic goes trough the router anyway, I use
it,s wifi for one radio and a controller and one iPad

When I had a code like that I purchased a Touch while it was on sale
for $279, and it deducted the discount from the retail price of $299.
So it might work for a Transporter as well.

The Touch was $162 with free ship and CA sales tax. I couldn't pass it
up. I'd been wondering about what to do with music for my garage, as
I'm a bit of a home tinkerer/mechanic. Probably gonna mate it with some

Also, just curious if anyone else that got this offer pulled the

Well, in that case it is a moot point. I already ordered a Touch with
the code. The code is a 9 place alphanumeric combo, probably unique for
me.

In any case, a good reason to register your products with Logitech
after purchase. They offer deals periodically, but this is the biggest
discount offer yet. BTW, Logitech does not inundate with offers if you
register. The occasional emails I get from them is acceptable.

I don't think you can share. But if you could, I'd say that Logitech
probably wouldn't be too upset, as it could help move their

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Tomato router - optimisations for Touch?

2011-08-10 Thread dynaudiorules

I'd like to explore Async routing.

Wiki insert:
Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) is a switching technique for
telecommunication networks. It uses asynchronous time-division
multiplexing,[1][2] and it encodes data into small, fixed-sized cells.
This differs from networks such as the Internet or Ethernet LANs that
use variable sized packets or frames. ATM provides data link layer
services that run over OSI Layer 1 physical links. ATM has functional
similarity with both circuit switched networking and small packet
switched networking. **This makes it a good choice for a network that
must handle both traditional high-throughput data traffic (e.g., file
transfers), and real-time, low-latency content such as voice and
video.**

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Tomato router - optimisations for Touch?

2011-08-10 Thread mlsstl

For myself, I wouldn't waste any time trying to optimize a router.
Besides my 3 Squeezeboxes, a Duet remote and music server, my mid-level
Belkin G router supports 2 other PCs, my laptop, my daughter's laptop
and iPad and a Roku. I've never had a song interruption due to traffic
volume on the network.

Some years ago, I used a SB3 with a "B" wireless router with no
issues.

Sometimes we can put a lot of effort into solving problems that really
aren't there.

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Tomato router - optimisations for Touch?

2011-08-10 Thread Soulkeeper

The goal is to give the Touch the maximum QoS priority, in order to
achieve a possible, potential, theoretical improvement in sound? I
don't know Tomato specifically, but you should probably give the
Touch's MAC or IP address max (express/premium) priority. If that can't
be done, give port 3483 and port 9000 max priority. If that can't be
done either, see if you can give priorities to "service types" like
MP3, FLAC, etc.

That being said, *QoS is just another memory and CPU-consuming service*
to run on the router. If your bandwidth isn't already clogged, and your
router isn't super-fast, turning QoS off might actually give you the
best performance. Especially prioritizing packets per "service type"
will be heavy, as the router will have to look into (analyze) every
single packet to determine what type it is, AFAIU. So if you haven't
yet maxed out your wireless bandwidth (which is unlikely), you should
probably leave QoS turned off in any case.

Apart from Trackstat & Spicefly Sugarcube I don't run any 3rd party
plugins, nor have I modified anything in the SOX-configuration. The
album is in FLAC-files, which play correctly using Windows Mediaplayer,
foobar & Mediamonkey. I've since experienced this with 24/96 files too.
I've set Flac back to "native" in the SBS configuration (see attachment
for screenshot), so the Touch should be doing the hard work now if I
understand correctly what was in Soundchecks explanations. I do see
however that on my server there's a FLAC process running.
