I'm merely pointing out the risks of what one might lose...
Think of it as a public service.
I realise I overlooked one; one's sense of hyperbole...

these are for ethernet connected digital out - install tt3.0 after
triode mod and then make these changes

I made these changes to make TT3.0 work with the triode settings, TT -b
won't work, so the buffer is set at 92790, just change that value for
the one you want where you see 92790 below.

cheers

change the loadPriority setting in
/usr/share/jive/applets/EnhancedDigitalOutput/loadPriority.lua from
loadPriority=0 to loadPriority=1

and

for file /etc/squeezeplay/userpath/settings/EnhancedDigitalOutput.lua

ensure the settings are as below

settings =

file /etc/squeezeplay/userpath/settings/SqueezeboxFab4.lua change hw:0,0
to TXRX as below

settings =
{brightnessMinimal=1,alsaPlaybackPeriodCount=4,alsaSampleSize=24,alsaPlaybackDevice="TXRX",brightnessControl="manual",brightness=1,cleanReboot=false,alsaPlaybackBufferTime=92790,}

and

file /usr/share/jive/applets/SqueezeboxFab4/SqueezeboxFab4Meta.lua
change hw:0,0 to TXRX as below

function defaultSettings(meta)
return {
alsaPlaybackDevice = "TXRX",
alsaPlaybackBufferTime = 92790,
alsaPlaybackPeriodCount = 4,

If it didn't involve Mpingo discs

or messing with Unix kernels, I'd be willing to give (almost) anything a

:-) You never know, that 70-75 may be exactly correct...

For fun, I even borrowed a $200 USB cable from the local AudioQuest
dealer to compare with my $20 run. Listened back and forth for 2 weeks
ever couple of days. No difference IMO and promptly returned it.

Of course, the citizenry over at Audio Asylum we're impressed by this
kind of disconfirmatory report.

Hmmm, thanks for the encouragement - think I'll fire off a letter over
to Stereophile about dynamic range...

I believe that Phil was commenting on the "100x better" assertion more
than anything else. What exactly does 100x better than the Touch or the
Touch with TT3.0 default sound like? The statement is completely
deserving of any and all ridicule.

Yes, over priced, high end USB cables are my pet peeve and I rarely miss
a chance to rip the audio magazines over their evidence free belief in
the superiority of USB cables costing more than $25 over a well made, to

Of the long time reviewers, I do have great respect for John Atkinson.
In fact, Stereophile's measurements courtesy of John is the only reason
I still have a subscription.

As an aside, I would love to see audiophile magazines publish the DR

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Jive alsa max buffer time

2012-04-09 Thread SBGK

I have done some more alsa buffer investigation and with the
alsaPlaybackPeriodCount=4 the no of times the mxcsdma interrupt was
called was as follows

mxcsdma interrupt count for 2 mins 32s music alsaPlaybackPeriodCount=4
countalsa buffer time
2077243400
401442
126325
729492790
670792790
695992790
687092790
761950
7584500
83659
72839

if you think that our objective is to reduce noise caused by interrupts
then this shows that the 92790 setting is 29 times lower than the TT3.0
default buffer setting of 3400.

so I think the best alsa buffer setting for alsaPlaybackPeriodCount=4 is
92790. (this is the smallest buffer time that gives a period size of
1024 and buffer size of 4098
for all resolutions ie 44.1 to 96 Khz)

I tried switching back to alsaPlaybackPeriodCount=2 and was surprised at
just how rough the sound was, this mod is quite a big improvement in
sound quality.

this concludes my search for settings that give the lowest noise/jitter
playback for the Touch. The sound is pretty much transformed into a very
high class analogue like presentation without digital artifacts as
experienced in the Touch factory and TT3.0 default settings.

If you would like to try them just PM me, all in strictest confidence.
