If you only listen to SBGK's advice then just PM him already. I am currently using default buffer option in EDO with HRT Music Streamer II+. Not sure what the other options are meant for. Any suggestion which is the best buffer option to use with HRT DAC. I mostly use flac and WAV. lake_eleven's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=48979 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94855 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

It might just work. [What it does is put the sample frequencies that the PLL needs to lock on much closer together i.e. ~8kHz diff rather than ~52kHz diff.] cfraser's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=48869 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94260 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

I often practice with my electric guitar in front of a laptop, so I can have scores/lyrics/whatnot available on the screen. My guitar used to pick up harddisk activity and screen scrolling. The guitar amp emitted a constant hiss/whine from the computer, with disk and graphics card activity sounding like an old modem on top of that. When I tried to move away from the computer, towards my fish tanks, I could hear the fluorescent tubes from the fish tank lights instead. All this noise was so annoying it impaired my playing (and it also made it impossible to record anything, of course). Then I bought $20 worth of copper tape off ebay, and lined the guitar cavities containing wires, pots and switches with it. The pickups cannot be shielded, though. Anyway, now I'm hard pressed to detect any PC (or fluorescent tube) activity through my guitar amp, no matter where I'm playing. The guitar is a Telecaster with single coil pickups, a 1950s design infamous for its ability to pick up electromagnetic noise. There was probably less EMI floating around in the 1950s, so Leo Fender didn't bother with shielding when he designed the first electric guitar. And the Fender company never upgraded the design with shielding since. Anyway, the point of this anecdote is that shielding for audio frequency EMI seems to be a really, really easy, inexpensive and effective thing to do, but despite that, it is not always done. For reasons that elude me. JohnSwenson wrote: > Since this has little to do with the thread topic I'll shut up now. Ok, me too. Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Dac not compatable with SBT?
Well that's great news. I'm using a MAC Pro Tower Dual Processor Quad Core 2.8Ghz for all processing. Overkill - yes indeed. This maybe a solution. Thanks guys - much appreciated. I will let you know how it works out. Sorry, I don't have any links for you, and I haven't tried to do that myself, but if you search this forum for server side transcoding, sox, server side upsampling, lms transcoding, lms upsampling, sox transcoding etc., I'm sure you'll find loads of info. I have not. Do you have a link you could forward me with instructions on how to achieve this? Does this affect the sound quality whatsoever? Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Dac not compatable with SBT?
Thanks again for all your input - its much appreciated. In Rotel's defence, they sent me via FTP server, hi-res test files to test how the DAC handles them. I played them in 2 ways: 1) VIA a USB stick connected to an Oppo BDP-95, which was connected to the Rotel using the same digital cable. The files played perfectly. 2) VIA the same USB stick connected to the SBT, connected to the Rotel using the same digital cable. The DAC would "stick" on the 88KHz to 44.1KHz sequence. Go figure! SoI can't entirely attribute this issue to the Rotel. Rather, it appears to be a relationship that's sour :-) Mnyb wrote: > Possibly as all HT gear I know implement the sub filter in the digital > domain so the analog inputs goes trough AD conversion ,when you use the > sub , you usually can't use the direct mode or most mfg these days are > very vague on what's really going on in thier product ,very few have > actual analog pass thru , moder HT gear is best feed an digital signal > . > So when using the sub you get the signal feed trough DA-AD-DA that is > maybe not ideal re soundqality . > > I think the fault is at the Rotel they just trying to pass the blame, > you see this forum people have it working with countless kinds of DAC's > and HT amplifiers ? slimmac's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9367 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94260 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
