Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Amazon to be an authorized McIntosh dealer

2016-02-20 Thread Mnyb

Yes I can't find any really good hifi dealer in my own city, we have one
but they are not truly independent it's a hifi chain store that only
caries some brands and are tied to others by common owners . This chain
also has local oligopoly in Sweden for certain brands ( another problem
).

So I to think they are struggling and the luxury brands like McIntosh
needs vider exposure .
It is nowadays some kind of quest :) to find a hifi dealer, a days
outing by car you may need to make an appointment .

I actually think it's good news .

The specialist hifi stores is usually a part of the problem , as their
hair brained way of trying to sell us the cult of audiophilia probably
scares away more potential customers than they generate .

If this loosens up maybe other bad sales practices can go away . In smal
countries and most of Europe there is a lot of price fixing and local
monopoly going on, far to many importers distributors and middle men !
Yes some brands actually deny you to sell thier products !
The price fixing is so rampant that grey import is considered a
"problem" hmm hmm :D

For example my favourite hifi dealer , located in a town 200km from
where I live now naturally ,are competent enough to sell Meridian etc .
But he want to also include B&W speakers in his line up but he can't as
B&W has opted to sell by a certain chain store ? How that practise is
even legal is beyond me .
He moved on to also sell and install complete home automation and whole
house audio and video installations for wealthy clients this a better
business , the really expensive kind . Cost like the most expensive high
end setups but the market is magnitudes bigger .

Natural to the aging hifi business there recommended price listed
floating around , the brand importer has already set the price for all
the stores .

Yes to more internet sales .

[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Amazon to be an authorized McIntosh dealer

2016-02-20 Thread mlsstl

Thought this was an interesting tidbit:
http://www.strata-gee.com/former-specialist-darling-mcintosh-opens-up-internet-sales/

Amazon and some other internet sellers are only supposed to be able to
carry a limited number of models, but as you can imagine, the long-time
brick & mortar dealers are mad as hell.

I suspect this shows several things: McIntosh probably sees this as an
opportunity to cash in on their name and see some dramatic sales growth
their existing dealer network just can't deliver. And, it also shows
that the classic high-end portion of the market continues to struggle --
the existing buyers are aging and not being replaced while the younger
market is shopping in new ways.

2016-02-20 Thread Mnyb

For your buggy whip needs .

http://www.cheshirehorse.com/Buggy-Whip-P6374.aspx

only 14.95$

The buggy whip proverb got me thinking the horse hobby is quite popular
around the world these days , its kind of a luxury not everyone can
care for or feed a horse , or has the time to do that .

And its a global past time and hobby soo .

Wonder if they don’t actually makes more money than some famous high end
brands :) :D I rather sell buggy whips than tube amps if want a a
bussines to live on .

So its will end soon the audio hobby can be rebooted on more sound
principles and eventually becomme a racket again...

For comedy do google the Otelo ultrasound (not Othello they dont even
got that rigth ) a nice tube amp for 60$

ANother answer is, this ends when the price is inifinity and the amount
of products is zero a limit of a kind.
