I have the audio on as soon as I walk in the house. Kitchen & Living
room synced. I cant be in the house without music playing. My wife
likes music also. But the other day she asked if I could turn it down
a bit. Wasnt even playing loud. I gave her a look and told her she
was getting old! Oh well.

I currently have a Squeezebox connected to a Rotel RX-1052 Receiver in
my living room. And yes, I have it connected via some Audioquest
analog cables to the Video 1 input.

It sounds very good. But of course, you have to have good quality rips
of your CDs. 320 kbps - good, Lossless FLAC even better.

I must admit though, the squeezebox I have connected to my Rotel
RSP-1068 via digital in the basement lounge/HT sounds even better!
But the RX-1052 combo is no slouch. But you must have good quality
rips. I say go for it. You won't be dissapointed.

I also had a NASTY ground loop hum in my system caused by the cable
connection. I purchased and installed the jensen transformer and it
completely went away. Paid $49.99 for it. Parts Express also sells
one for way less but I figured I would go with the one that received
the best reviews and it has a money back guarantee.

If I can chime in and ask a question while speaking about bass. I too
am considering these speakers but was worried about the bass. So
everyone who owns these can attest to good bass response and not what
one would think from such little and not very powerful (wattage-wise)
speakers?

Thanks.

I thought bookcases at the back of the room help with diffusion of the

so does this mean you are better off having the volume set to max on the

I've been controlling the volume via the sb3 so that I dont have to use

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Modifying the Squeezebox 3

2007-04-11 Thread Club1820

Bob, thanks for the quick reply.

So is the item I posted a link to what I need and what the original
poster of this thread stated as Mod #1?. Replace the wallwart.

I have my squeezebox connected to my Rotel 1068 Pre/Pro which then
feeds to a Rotel 1095 amp. Its connected via coaxial. So, correct me
if I am wrong - but through this connection, isnt the DAC in the Rotel
Pre/Pro being utilized instead of the Squeezebox's? Thus no need for
an external DAC? ???

Thanks for your help and responses.

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Modifying the Squeezebox 3

2007-04-11 Thread Club1820

Ok. I hope that you guys dont mind me posting this question. As I am a
new owner of a squeezebox and love it so far. But also one who is
always looking for a better sound. Just like you guys.

As I am not tech savvy and won't be spending major bucks for an upgrade
or the transporter - the only upgrade for me would be to replace the
wallwart. Does this really improve the sound? - even if its minimal
compared to all the other mods mentioned here and in comparison to the
supplied wallwart?

Is this what I should use?
http://www.electronicpartsforless.com/storefrontprofiles/processfeed.aspx?sfid=100806&i=51622665&mpid=36&dfid=1

Its a 5 volt regulated 1 amp power adapter. Is this what I should
get?

I saw on another page, someone suggested a 5 volt regulated 1.5 amp -
but I can't find one of those anywhere. Would 1 amp suffice?

Do they have these at Radio Shack - checked their webpage and can't
find it there.

OK - Thanks for all your help and hope you dont mind the simple
questions from a fellow squeezebox lover!
