[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Which Interconnect Cable??

2007-07-08 Thread Nick77

Now that I finally own an SB3 which I am very impressed with, I am
currently using the coax digital out. I am no longer sure which cable
to use. I thought coax was the perferred choice but am now hearing
glass toslink is superior. Has anyone made their own expensive
comparisons between cables and care to share results.

I felt the Elpac was a substancial improvment over the stock walwart.
Much blacker background and improved sonics.

Thanks for the reply, I think I will just enjoy the benifit recieved
from stock Elpac. I suspect in my current system the difference also
might be small. Thanks

[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Modded Elpac?

2007-07-04 Thread Nick77

Just recieved my first SB3 and am very pleased. I had previously picked
up WM220 Elpac and disabled the 12v section and added proper plug. I
noticed good results but cant help but wonder what sending the unit to
Bolder would accomplish. $125 a good investment or just be happy?
Anyone experience the difference between the two?

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Power cord?

2007-04-16 Thread Nick77

I took the WM220 apart and discovered the red wire was 5v pos and blue
wire was common. I used the solid white stripe wire as positive.
Checking with a voltmeter gets me 5 volts from the center of barrel
tip. Yeahaw! Now I just need a Squeezebox:(

[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Power cord?

2007-04-16 Thread Nick77

I stole this connector off a Elpac power supply cord I had laying
around. I am changing the tip on Elpac WM220 and need to know if anyone
knows which wire is positive? Solid white stripe wire or wire with id
lettering?

Wow thats a pricy power suppy to not have any noticable affects. I
wonder if some more breakin time is required. I have had a eye on this
supply and looking for some feedback. Hope some more burnin helps.
Thanks

I remember reading Wayne at Bolder even reccomending this unit. Said it
appeared to be between the Elpac upgrade and the pricy mk11 power
suppy.

Congrats! I am still hopeful for santa but might be a while longer :(

Wow! Thanks for the reply Phil, I was just hoping it equaled the Emu.
You seem pretty confident it even excels in comparision. That makes me
want one even more now. I am only using mid hi-fi HK635 as reciever and
Onix Rocket towers so I wonder if power upgrade is warrented? Thanks

[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Squeezebox vs Emu 1212?

2006-12-20 Thread Nick77

I picked up a second hand 1212 soundcard and running digital out to my
avr. I would like to have the extra features that the squeezebox offers
but wonder if it measures up to the sound I am getting now from this
Emu. I feel it is as good or even a little better than my Denon 1920
universial player. I would probably use the digital out because my avr
does a pretty good job with d/a conversion. Has anyone done a
comparision between these two or care to comment on digital out of the
squeezebox. Also anyone have any comments on modded power and effect on
digital out with sb3? Thanks!
