The xlinx reset did not work. In fact both channels have the same problem now. I do not think it's caused by the reset though. In my current setup the Transporter is pretty much useless now and it seems a have to put a pre amp between the Transporter and power amp. [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Transporter, right channel not working ok.
Hi, The right channel of my Transporter (both unbalanced and balanced) does only come into action when volume is set to %-30db or higher. Below -30db it pops off and on, and at -40db its just completely silent. Its not actually the volume setting that depends; its the volume of the track thats being played. A really loud track (mixed at 0db constantly), might actually cause the right channel to work at -35/-40db. I've tested with a different amp and cables, with same results. It's the Transporter for sure. I use latest firmware and have the same problem with earlier versions. [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Squeezebox Classic on USB powerrrrr
Hi, Just the other day I decided to start using my old Squeezbox classic again. It has found a new home in my study. I didn't had a free wall outlet and I also didn't had a extension box laying around, but because I already put my mind to get it to work, I needed to find a solution. That's when I realized that a SB Classic uses 5 volts and draws around 1 amp. Exactly the power USB delivers. I quickly soldered a suitable cable, connected one end to the SB and the other to a USB port of my NAS. And. IT just WORKS perfectly!! Now, why do I post this in this forum. Because computer power isn't the most clean, to say the least, I wanted to find out what the effects were on sound quality. In one word NONE. I use a decent 250 dollar Sennheiser headphone and listened to excellent recordings in 24bit 96khz. To me this pretty much ends discussion about the use of different power sources to improve sound quality. It doesnt make any difference (to a SB classic at least). btw, the power lead has a ferrite core. -- S2K -- Main HiFi: Transporter directly connected to a Classé CA-150 power amp with balanced leads. You should consider building speakers yourself. The design you see on the picture will cost you approximately 200 each and will sound better than many commercial speaker up to 1000 and up. Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Power supply & DAC for my SB3 - recommendations?
For what its worth, here are my two cents about this subject. I do think that linear power can improve sound quality on analog outputs. The SB3 with stock PSU is a decent performer. It does outperform my previous owned Denon CD transport costing three times as much (and a few years older). However I always found S sounds slightly hard/not natural sounding on the SB3. Since my linear DIY psu, Ive noticed improvements in this area. There is absolute no need to spend tons of money on a PSU. Ive spend around $25 on parts. Ive seen aftermarket PSUs for the SB3 costing about a house. There isnt a single reason to justify that, besides maybe mind masturbation. Do it only if you use the analog outputs, dont bother when you going to use a DAC. A DAC can certainly improve things. I know because I own a Transporter also ;-) As most people will agree on, the biggest improvements can be made with speakers, 2nd the amp and 3rd the source. When the first two are not at a certain level, I wouldnt bother at all about SB3 mods (The SB3 is good enough). -- S2K S2K's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12675 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=63349 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

I haven't test the 4308 yet, however I did have the 4306 at home for a week or so. The 4306 didn't have Flac support unlike the 4308 but it did play WAV's. First of all. Denon's solution is based on DNLA. You basically just share a folder containing audio files with the Denon. That's it! When you have a large collection of music it becomes almost impossible to find the track you want. There is no indexing, no search options, no nothing. You can not ever live with it, especially when having a large music collection. The sound was oke, but what is to be expected? The Transporter sounds better however. I'm also a big 805 fan. I think it is one of the best monitor speakers. The 805 is even better then it's more expensive brothers IMO (the 804 and 803). However recently I've heard the Dynaudio Contour S1.4 monitor and i'm even more impressed. I asked my dealer to make a setup with both the 805's and the Dynaudio's to let me compare side by side. I've spend almost 4 hours in the listening room. Because the Dynaudio has less effeciency than the 805's (the 805's sounds louder) at first hand they seem the be better. However if you listen longer you notice that the Dynaudio's are more refined, have better en tighter bass and all in all sounds more natural. Before you buy the 805's, I strongly recommend you to listen to the Dynaudio's. The price is more or less the same. As for the amp that depends of what you want to spend. I can recommend the Primare I21 and or the Musical Fidelity A3.5. Before a bought my transporter I've considered buying a Denon AVR4306 when it first came out. I was giving the ability to test one at home for a few days. First of all the whole DNLA concept is nothing more than a protocol to share a folder on your PC which contains music files and to identify your player on the network, That’s it! Especially when one has a considerable large music collection it’s just undoable to work with it. I really tried to get the hang of it but after four days I gave up. To me DNLA concept is to limited to see the player as a full fletched music server. How different is Slimdevices approach. Immediately I felled right at home with the interface. For now Slimdevices is the only one that offers this level of usability. Regarding audio quality: The Denon at the time didn’t support Flac. However WAV’s sounded good, but what else is to be expected from a 2000 dollar amp. However I strongly believe my Transporter sounds considerably better. How well the transporter will perform next to the Arcam for example will hopefully be tested in the future. One thing I know for sure though. I won’t consider any DNLA player above my Transporter even if it said Mark Levinson on the case. -- S2K S2K's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12675 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=39550 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
