I don't think the NET Audio Sonance has popped up in the many DAC threads before now. Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] XLR to RCA cable/connector
That clears it all up as to what is supposed to happen, but it's just making sure that "typical" adapters do what's expected. Not a big problem though. Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] XLR to RCA cable/connector
Thanks mr-b. I have no intention of using balanced output. >From what I understand so far the easiest thing would be to leave the jumpers in the factory setting (balanced) but use an XLR->RCA adapter that does not have the -ve connected to anything, to get the correct unbalanced operation. Correct? I'd need to ensure that I have the -ve unconnected and that's the issue really: Do XLR->RCA adapters have it connected or not? -- Skittler Dave. Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] XLR to RCA cable/connector
Thanks - and that's what I've understood from elsewhere. It also agrees with what Sean says about it being best to have the -ve unconnected. So... As I said up front, my preference would be to stick with my current cable and put the adapter at the DAC end. If (as you suggest) nearly all adapters DO have the -ve unconnected then there won't be an issue, but that is the question I would need a definite answer to from any manufacturer before buying an adapter. This all assumes my Vegas trip goes to plan next month and I still have money left for a DAC :) -- Skittler Dave. Ah, so a pre-made connector isn't necessarily going to work, as it may (will?) have the -ve connected? -- Skittler Dave. [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] XLR to RCA cable/connector
If I were to purchase a Lavry DA10 then I'd need to get its XLR connections to talk to RCA inputs on my amplifier. This would be an unbalanced connection. It seems there would be three options: A. Stick a couple of XLR(F) to RCA(F) adaptors into the back of the DA10, then use my current interconnect (Van den Hul First Metal Screen) from there to the amp. Simplest solution, but is this going to degrade things noticeably? If not, any suggestions as to where to get good adaptors? B. Buy new XLR<->XLR cables, then stick a couple of adaptors at the amplifier end to convert to male RCA. Not sure there'd be room for this as the RCA input sockets are fairly close together, and I can't see the cables being better than my current RCA interconnect, so I think this is worse than option A. C. Find a couple of cables that have XLR(F) on one end and RCA(M) on the other. These don't seem particularly common to put it mildly, and I'm not certain about specifying the pin connections correctly in order for everything to work. Any thoughts?
