MusicIP is like Inguz in that it's Intel only. I tried at one time to get Inguz running on an Intel machine with Ubuntu but couldn't get it to work. Maybe with a little work something similar to the MusicIP/ARM install will get Inguz to work on ARM. Bob PS I went from Ubuntu 16.04 on XU4 -> Windows 10 on Intel-NUC simply because of audio software availability. The Win 10 setup means I can use Inguz, MusicIP is much easier to use and is more flexible, and some audio software is only available for Windows. I found I was constantly switching between Ubuntu, macOS and Windows to do different things and it became a real pain! Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] RC (Inguz etc.)
I've found a fix for the 'Save Preset' button... Replace Inguz plugin 'index.html' line 592 with... Code: original index.html line 592 Code: If you run Inguz on a Windows PC (Windows 10 in my case) you can activate all the up/down buttons in iexplorer 11 by first running LMS, then press F12 ((Developer Tools), then just close down the developer tools window. All the up/down buttons should then work correctly. I have also found meanings of some of the Inguz settings... Quietness: "Quietness" is "loudness". Quietness zero means "flat"; quietness 10 means a loudness-curve EQ that boosts the bass and treble. This is a very subtle loudness control compared with some. Also there's a fundamental limitation to this architecture where your loudness change might not take effect for many seconds, due to the SB's buffering. Width: "Width" controls the stereo image width, by up to +/- 6dB (-6 is not mono). Note that increasing the width doesn't apply crossfeed to spread the image beyond the speakers, it just attenuates the middle compared with the side. Flatness: "Flatness": DRC creates a correction filter against its target curve (flat, by default), but often a flat target can sound thin and, well, flat. So my flatness filter looks at the frequency response of the correction filter and inverts it, over ten steps; theoretically so that with flatness=0 the in-room response is relatively unchanged from the uncorrected version (correcting for phase and reflections but not correcting peaks), and with flatness=10 the in-room response should be really quite flat.. Flatness 10 should give the "flat" in-room response. Skew: The Inguz skew control should be set to compensate for any discrepancy in the straight-line distance from tweeter to ear. At 44.1kHz sampling rate this equates to 22.68μs of time delay per sample or about a third of an inch (7.7mm) of distance. This is ONLY true at this one sampling rate, so if you play material at different rates it only works for some of them. Enhanced Stereo Filter: Can be used: "To increase spatial separation between channels. The various Space filters broaden the stereo image in a normal system to well beyond the loudspeaker positions, enhancing the they are here feeling. I've been experimenting with Inguz quite a lot but I can't find any of the 'Enhanced Stereo Filter' files. Does anyone have copies of them stored anywhere? If so, would it be possible for you to PM them to me or attach them here. Wirrunna, I remembered reading something on the forum years ago about this so I looked back at some of the old Inguz threads. Phil Leigh (where has he gone!) mentioned this way back in 2011. He refers to an edit in the Inguz plugin 'index.html' code to correct the clickable box. He attached the corrected file to one of his posts but it was so long ago that the attachment has been archived off. Does that help? I took a look at the file and there's what I think is an HTML commented line and an associated function. The code starts at line #155 and is as follows but in copying here indents are lost... // Save-As Preset function savp(el) { if(!el) return; var sType = el.id.substr(el.id.indexOf("_")+1); var sval = ""; var ctrl = document.getElementById("edt_"+sType); if( ctrl ) { sval = ctrl.value; } var setfn = "Set" + sType; if(typeof(_model[setfn])=="function") { _model[setfn]( sval, true, function(bOK){highlightSetting(el, bOK)} ); } } To me the code is almost meaningless so I'm of no help but you may find something. Wirrunna, I found the "|" earlier and discovered that it saved the profile. In my attempts to get the graphical EQ display working I discovered a Silverlight installer for Mac - silverlight needs activating through Safari security preferences. That got the EQ display working and the save button appeared in place of "|" on the latest LMS 7.91 nightly. I have an old desktop PC running with Windows 10 installed and found the same on that with Safari. Thank you for looking at the Inguz code. The problem I have at the moment is that I can't get the up/down buttons working - some do some don't. I'm sure it's an issue with the HTML code but my coding skills are poor to say the least. Wirrunna, tried looking at the YouTube video but it doesn't seem to exist anymore :( I managed to find IE on Windows 10 as well and as long as silverlight is installed, as you say the graphical display is there. I have iPhone 6 with iPeng but can't find any way to use it to set up EQ or to save anything. Any ideas? John, I'm going to have a closer look at REW to see if there is any way to export RC and import into Inguz. What file type does Inguz require, .wav, .pcm or what? And what folder does that file go into? I don't really want to spend out on Audiolense or Acourate without knowing that I can actually get a RC file into Inguz and establish that it works; i.e. that it does indeed change the character of the sound. 1 x Touch 1 x Radio 1 x Boom 1 x Intel- NUC server/player running LMS 7.91 on Ubuntu 16.04 1 X Odroid-XU4 server/player running LMS 7.91 on Ubuntu 16.04 WaveIO USB into Lavry DA-10 DAC Starfish Pre-amp : Based on NAIM Heavily modified NAIM NAP 250 Power-amp Behringer DEQ2496 Linn Isobarik DMS bobertuk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=30376 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=77084 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] RC (Inguz etc.)
John & Wirrunna Using Johns commented instructions I have Inguz working on an Intel-NUC which seems to have more than enough CPU power to run Inguz. I'm using Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. John, I just followed your instructions to the letter, apart from having to modify permissions a little. The biggest problem was getting the EQ GUI working - initially I tried installing a silverlight lookalike for Linux called 'pipelight' in the hope of being able to get the GUI running direct in a web browser on Ubuntu. No luck, just couldn't get it to run in either Chrome or Firefox. So I downloaded silverlight for Mac and after activating it in Safari it works fine - well, the GUI anyway - connecting through Safari to the NUC on port 9000 is all that's needed. The adjusters (up and down buttons) for EQ work but most of the other adjusters, e.g. 'Quietness', do nothing. I seem to remember reading about this problem years ago and if I recall correctly, it was something to do with the version of silverlight being used, an earlier version being required. Could get it functioning on Windows 10 with IE and Safari (but not Edge) but still the same issue with the adjuster buttons. I seem to recall there was a way of getting those buttons to work but for the life of me I can't remember how. I get sound out of the speakers and changes to EQ changes the sound produced so in principle it's working. Except I don't have a clue how to get room correction up and running. I have REW and a USB calibrated microphone but don't know what file types to export from REW or where to put them in Inguz. I know that information was on the Inguz website but it's no longer accessible. There's a whole raft of threads on this forum about Inguz and I'm sure the information could be sifted out but I'd be grateful for any help here. Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] RC (Inguz etc.)
Hi Phil (Leigh), I don't know if you are still reading this thread but if you are I'd like to ask you a question. I had a go at getting Inguz up and running on a QNAP NAS but after a long time trying gave up. I got partway there but InguzDSP.exe doesn't seem to like the QNAP environment. So I decided to over to switch over to a low energy Windows 7 based system and got Inguz running easily using your modified files. It works a treat and Windows gives me direct access to lots of other Windows goodies like MP3tag as well. The question... I find that the first or second track played each day (after a daily Win7 reboot) does a lot of re-buffering. After that one track though, all following tracks play without a hitch. Is this something you've observed with windows? I'm using LMS/Inguz/SugarCube, the windows machine has been tuned to give priority to background tasks and other than things like AV, & VNC nothing else is running. I've also un-installed all the retailer "kak' and stopped non essential services. Thanks Bob P.S. Phil, Presumably you use 2x 'Startech 10/100 Ethernet To Multi Mode Fiber Media'. One at router end connected by fibre to another at Touch end with short UTP cables. i.e. Router<---UTP--->Startech<---Fiber--->Startech<---UTP--->Touch Or is it simpler than that? Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] soundcheck's Touch Toolbox 3.0
Hi Klaus, F.Y.I. You probably won't recall my earlier post in this thread about buffering issues with 24bit/96kHz flac files when using TT3.0 - I tried lots of increments to the buffer setting from 3400 -> 1 with no difference on any of the settings. Playback was continually interrupted by the Touch needing to re-buffer. I eventually tracked the problem down - it was a network issue. I had been using a BT HomeHub 3 (UK only DSL/ADSL+ wireless router). For various reasons, I thought there were other issues with the HomeHub and decided to change it for a Netgear WNDR4500. Problems with 24bit/96kHz cleared immediately. So... if anyone in the UK using a BT HomeHub 3 is having issues with TT3.0, that could well be the problem. Hope this is helpful info. Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] soundcheck's Touch Toolbox 3.0
Hi Klaus, I definitely have a problem with TT3.0 and hi-res audio files! The Touch stops playing and waits to refill the buffer quite frequently and I have so far tried setting the buffer to 8000 with no improvement. After increasing it by 200's and getting to 4000, I increased at 500 each time. This was after a complete Touch 'Restore Factory Settings'. Any suggestions? Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] soundcheck's Touch Toolbox 3.0
Klaus, Is there any interaction between TT3.0 and 24bit/96KHz flac files? I suddenly can't play them any more - the only recent changes to my system are that I have started using TT3.0 and have updated to LMS 7.7.1 nightly. If I change Touch 'file types' for flac -> native it works. It does mean that transcoding is carried out by the touch though! Could be the recent LMS 7.7.1 nightly I suppose! Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] soundcheck's Touch Toolbox 3.0
I never used TT2.0 - it just seemed to much of an effort! TT3.0 is much simpler to use so I took the plunge and tried it out. Like many mods that can be carried out through the 'sound chain' (from source --> speakers), it does make a difference to the reproduced sound. Often if there are any changes at all, it's just different - neither good nor bad - simply different. I have to say that TT3.0 doesn't just make my system sound different, it does make it sound better! Without relying on audiophile superlatives, it feels 'more here, more alive'. My pet love is the bass end and that sounds significantly better as well. I hate all the audiophile 'smoke and mirrors' and generally take no notice of them - in fact from experience I usually give them a wide berth. This was so easy to do though that it was worth a try even if only to say it was again just an audiophool mod (like mega £ cables and interconnects). For me TT3.0 works - I don't know why but it does! I've kept the screen on, IR on and don't use tt -k to kill active daemons - some of us need the flexibility! Thank you Klaus for something that really seems to work. Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] New Squeezebox Touch Mod
Hi Rick, You only have to type the 'chmod' command once before the first reboot. It changes the file attributes permanently. If you type the following at the command line: ls -l /etc/init.d/SB_priority It should return: -rwxr-xr-x1 root root 1311 Aug 23 12:42 /etc/init.d/SB_priority (-rwxr-xr-x shows that the file has full access rights where x = the executable flag) If you use the following command 2 - 3 mins after a reboot you will be able to see if the new settings have stuck: ps -eLo pid,cls,rtprio,pri,nice,cmd Look for process numbers (pid) 5, 11, 367, 407 & in the late 600's - early 700's - my jive_alsa pid has varied between 679, 718 or 719 far :). Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] New Squeezebox Touch Mod
The end of my rcS file looks like this and I get no errors... # Start Samba #if [ -x /etc/init.d/samba ]; then # /etc/init.d/samba start & #fi # Call file 'SB_priority' to set all audio priorities # by ensuring squeezeplay is fully initialised first /etc/init.d/SB_priority & # Start squeezeplay /etc/init.d/squeezeplay start I've only commented out the block beginning '# Start Samba' myself. Yours may not be commented out - it's OK either way! You also need to change file access permissions at the command line before rebooting. Use... chmod 777 /etc/init.d/SB_priority Does that help? Bob P.S. the '&' at the end of '/etc/init.d/SB_priority &' causes the file SB_priority to run as a separate and independent process (a background task). It will not stop rcS from running - squeezeplay will still initialize and SB_priority will run in the background waiting for 100 secs before it executes it's commands. -- bobertuk 1 x Touch - SC 7.6.0 - SSOTS v4.91 1 x Radio 1 x Boom Lavry DA-10 DAC QNAP TS-509 3.3.6 build 1110T Starfish Pre-amp : Based on NAIM Heavily modified NAIM NAP 250 Power-amp Behringer DEQ2496 Linn Isobarik DMS bobertuk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=30376 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89359 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] New Squeezebox Touch Mod
I made the changes 'stick' by using a combination of lintweakers changes to rcS and suggestions made by JohnSwenson. 1. Add the following to the basic rcS script immediately before the call to run squeezeplay (i.e. near the end of file): # Call file 'SB_priority' to set all audio priorities # by ensuring squeezeplay is fully initialised first /etc/init.d/SB_priority & 2. Create a new file - 'SB_priority' - in the same directory as rcS and use the following script: #!/bin/sh sleep 100 # Set audio thread priorities # === # Get IRQ for RTC tmp=`cat /proc/interrupts |grep "mxc_rtc"|cut -f2 -d" "|cut -f1 -d":"` # Get proc # for RTC rtc=`ps -e|grep IRQ-$tmp|cut -f3 -d" "` # Get IRQ of SPDIF I/F tmp=`cat /proc/interrupts |grep "spdif"|cut -f2 -d" "|cut -f1 -d":"` # Get proc # for SPDIF spdif=`ps -e|grep IRQ-$tmp|cut -f3 -d" "` # Get proces number for audio threads aud1=`ps -e|grep "sirq-timer/0"|cut -f5 -d" "` aud2=`ps -e|grep "sirq-hrtimer/0"|cut -f4 -d" "` # Get process number for jive_alsa 'music' jalsa1=`ps -eo pid,args|grep "jive_alsa -d default"|head -1|cut -f3 -d" "` # Get process number for jive_alsa 'sound effects' jalsa2=`ps -eo pid,args|grep "jive_alsa -d plughw"|head -1|cut -f3 -d" "` # Set new priorities chrt -f -p 91 $aud1 > /dev/null chrt -f -p 93 $aud2 > /dev/null chrt -f -p 44 $spdif > /dev/null chrt -f -p 87 $rtc > /dev/null # check the new priorities with: # ps -eLo pid,cls,rtprio,pri,nice,cmd | grep -i "irq" # check all priorities with: # ps -eLo pid,cls,rtprio,pri,nice,cmd # Set jive_alsa priority jalsa1=`ps -eo pid,args|grep "jive_alsa -d default"|head -1|cut -f3 -d" "` chrt -f -p 55 $jalsa1 > /dev/null # sound effects only xx jasla2=`ps -eo pid,args|grep "jive_alsa -d plughw"|head -1|cut -f3 -d" "` 3. Make sure SB_priority is executable: chmod 777 SB_priority Doing it this way is probably more robust and does work. Obviously use your own preferred values in each 'chrt -f -p xx $xxx' setting. Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] RC (Inguz etc.)
Hi all, Has anyone managed to get Inguz running and working with Linux on SbS 7.6/Touch? I use a QNAP TS-509 NAS which should have the horsepower. It's installed up to a point! The SbS 'Home/EQ' WebUI is functioning - including the EQ graphic display and I can modify, save and recall new EQ settings. In SBS/Settings/File types, I can set flac/InguzDSP as well. But... with filetypes set to flac/InguzDSP, the Touch produces an error 'Can't open file for: ' and nothing plays. I've used the Inguz native files and Phil Leighs' modified files but the result is the same. Suggestions anyone? In common with most others, selecting Settings/Plugins/EQ in the WebUI doesn't do much. After several minutes it errors with 'Can't initialise silverlight', then brings up a page with no EQ graph but with the buttons intact. The buttons do nothing though! Something else notable is that running the WebUI on Firefox or Safari on a MAC some of the 'up' buttons do nothing. In IE8 they all work as expected. -- bobertuk 1 x Touch - SC 7.6.0 - SSOTS v4.91 1 x Radio 1 x Boom Lavry DA-10 DAC QNAP TS-509 3.3.6 build 1110T Starfish Pre-amp : Based on NAIM Heavily modified NAIM NAP 250 Power-amp Behringer DEQ2496 Linn Isobarik DMS bobertuk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=30376 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=77084 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Superiority of Toslink?
Before I try Toslink from my SB Receiver, is anyone able to advise about the SBR optical output. I have a Lavry DA-10 DAC. According to Dan Lavry the DAC jitter correction capabilities are equally good using Coax or optical inputs. If this is true the main influence on sound quality (if any) is likely to be the quality of the SBR coax or optical outputs. So, which is better - the SBR coax or optical output? Not a simple question to answer I'm sure and yes, I know, it's something I should try for myself. Up to a point yes - apparently. If you read some of the writings of people like Dan Lavry, no music currently available can utilize the full 24bit resolution - technology in the best recording studio's can barely make use of 20 bit's! If this is true there are still at least 4 bits that can be 'lost' before music information is also lost. I know extremely little on the subject but guess that the likes of Dan Lavry would have the necessay knowledge - although there are almost certainly some that would disagree! Phil Leigh;437925 Wrote: > Not sure in Linux... In XP the version is obvious. Suggest you check out > the SOX website http://sox.sourceforge.net/ Thanks Phil, Version check from the Linux command line is: sox --version It returned version 13.00 so that was the problem. It looks as if the QNAP SSOTS setup installs an earlier version of SOX but it can be updated with QNAP's IPKG software. Only problem then is that the new file is in the wrong place with wrong permissions. After putting it (copying) v14.2 into the correct folder and setting the file permissions correctly, the music file (flac) is playing. Phil Leigh;437909 Wrote: > What version of SC are you running - it looks like you need a later > version of SOX. From memory you need SOX 14.2 or later. I'm using SC 7.3.4 so I guess(?) it's got the latest SOX. How can I check which version is installed (in Linux)? Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Anyone tried a 96k 24 bit download
I tried playing a 24/96 free download from Gemmel, hoping that SOX would downsample it - but it didn't. No audio output generated at all! First I tried with the .wma file and get the error: 0277: [09-07-03 16:16:40.7919] Slim::Player::Song::open (341) Error: Couldn't create command line for wma playback for [file:///volume1/Audio/Music/Bob%27s%20Singles/07-MissaFortunadesperata-Gloria.wma] Then I tried converting to 'flac' with dbPoweramp and get a different error: 0278: /volume1/SSODS/bin/sox stio: Unknown output file format for '-': File type `flac' is not known SqueezeCentre is runing from a QNAP TS-509 NAS which should be quite capable of transcoding with SOX - the errors don't seem to indicate a problem with processor power either. Both files play on PC in 'MediaMonkey' and normal 'flac' plays without a problem from the NAS. Any thoughts appreciated?
