I think "Fifer" has has TP connected directly to his NAP250, at least it
appears so from his sig. You could contact him for info.

Cheers

[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: Headphone amp for Transporter XLR connector ?

2007-01-16 Thread magnanimous

I think the problem would be that you cannot attenuate the XLR output,
so you get no volume control even if you could connect the phones
direct to the transporter.

[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: new Avi 'Active' speakers.. perfect?

2007-01-15 Thread magnanimous

You may be correct about the cost, was pure speculation on my part.

I've spoken to Ashley from AVI on the phone before and he's very
passionate about his products. I seem to remember he was running for a
train when I phoned but that didn't stop the call lasting over 30 mins.
I take it he didn't give any indication of cost?

Will be interesting to see them when they come out as I've toyed with
the active Neutrons to go along with my SB3 in my office.

Cheers

Richard

[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: new Avi 'Active' speakers.. perfect?

2007-01-13 Thread magnanimous

AVI's existing small bookshelf speaker, the active Neutron IV, retails
for about £1050 in the UK. I've not heard the active versions but the
speakers themselves are stunningly transparent and seem to punch well
above their diminutive size. They need to be sited on stands to get the
best out of them.

The new media speakers would appear to be similar but with the amp
built in and not an addition on the back and the addition of a DAC for
usb. I suspect the will retail for about £600 in the UK given this
quote from the AVI site.

"We did look to see what sort of separates you could get for the money
and found a 40wpc Integrated Amp (insufficient headroom for modern
recordings) for £600 and a well known 50wpc pre/power combination for
£1500 or the price of our speakers and a decent computer"

[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: Transporter: Brickbats and bouquets

2006-12-19 Thread magnanimous

Wow another WNA Mk2 owner. Still got to get mine connected to my
Transporter but am expecting great things.

My own experience with obtaining a Transporter couldn't have been more
different from yours. I was browsing the UK suppliers and unable to
find one that had them in stock. This was last week. So I placed an
order direct with Slim who were quoting a 3 week delivery time. Two
days later UPS turn up with 2 packages!!

Am extremely happy with the TP but agree with Fifer that it is a subtle
upgrade from the SB3 with my setup. Naim amps and Proac speakers. There
does seem to be a wider soundstage and the music a bit more dynamic.
More listening required I think.

Oh and thanks to Slim for the extra nut and washer in the TP that
rattled about when I unpacked it. Investigation didn't find anything
missing or unconnected inside just some free parts.
