I'd start with using their search function. If you type in a search
term, it'll pull a bunch of related stuff up for you to have a look at.
Also, once you start playing music or building playlists, there are
functions where it will recommend additional related music based on
what you've been playing. It's a vast resource and does take a bit of
playing around to get the gist of how it works. Their help resources
aren't too bad, either.

I just popped for the 14 day free trial. Seems good at $10/month but
the only dig I have against SB/pandora is the breadth of the playlist.
I get a lot of the same things again and again.

How do I get good ideas from rhapsody?

+1 on Rhaposody, and now that they've reduced their premium service
price to $9.99/mo, it rocks even more! Also, you could check out the
premium service from SKY.fm. If you like their content offerings, you
have the option to stream their premium service at 256K and I have to
say it does sound stellar!

I really liked Pandora, so some time ago I bought the "Premium" Pandora
(192Kbps) service...only to find out that it isn't accessible via the
Transporter, or any of the Squeeze products according to the tech I
spoke with at Logitech.Great.

In lieu of that...I'm using the Rhapsody plan that streams at 192, and
gives you a nearly unlimited music collection, ability to listen to
entire albums, etc, etc, etc. If the original recording was
goodthe Rhapsody stream is more than good enough for anything
except the most critical listening.

Linn is streaming material at 320.A bit eclectic at times, and no
real flexibility but it's nice to listen to on occasion.

For $15/moI think the Rhapsody is the best game in town where music
services are concerned.

If by Audiophile you mean full bandwidth streams available, the answer
is no. I have found some 320Kbps streams from some small stations. To
my knowledge none of the big streaming outlets stream at anything near
Audiophile. I'm lucky if I can find 192Kbps most are 128Kbps.

It is still ones own local lossless files for Audiophile Squeezebox
playback.

[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] A multitude of choices...

2010-04-07 Thread mr_bill

Hi,
I haven't had a squeezebox for quite awhile.
I just reviewed the staggering list of services (slacker, soma) and
options for listening.
I am a subscriber to Rhapsody and enjoy it and the quality is quite
good. I am also very familiar with Pandora and know that they now have
a premium service for $36 per year which features a higher bit stream.
Of all the other choices, are there some other higher quality music
squeezebox options to use for us audiophiles?
I'm not speaking of individual stations but rather the list of free or
pay services that is listed on the squeeze website that are accessible
with the squeeze products.
