Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] ADAM users unite!
Pippin... My friend! Since you are using TWO separate outputs from your Transporter, your output signal levels are quite different! This could cause issues overall, but should be evident at any volume setting...not just loud-vs-soft. I'm thinking "Fletcher-Munson" here... No matter... Let's try and get BOTH the Subwoofer and Speaker to use the SAME transporter output! I understand FULLY that the "audiophile inclination" is to run to mains "full range"...regardless of limitations in their capabilities.Let's for a minute ignore ill-advised truisms, and "High Pass" our mains! Choose either the Single ended (RCA) outputs from your Transporter, or the Balanced XLR. Whichever your Sub supports... Let your sub (It should have a High Pass output) serve as the crossover. Some subs are better than others at this! In the end, your gains can be: more "headroom" with your mains. Lower distortion because the mid-driver isn't trying to reproduce LOW bass, and an overall improvement in everything! If it was such a good idea to run small speakers "full range"then tweeters wouldn't be crossed over in any design, and tweeters then would feel the full force of LOW freqs...and the life shortening consequences that would bring! We'll figure this out! :) -- Curt962 Life is precious. I've been to the edge, and learned that God is my friend. Praise Him at every opportunity, and Celebrate every day! Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] ADAM users unite!
Just to avoid confusion: My sub "works", too. My living room is also open plus it's almost 4m (a bit more than 11 feet) tall. My problem is not to get a good sound with the A5s and the MicroVee, the problem is changing volume, I either have no bass at low volume or only bass at high volume or I have to re-adjust the sub's volume. It may also be related to the fact that I use different outputs on my Transporter for the A5s (XLR, balanced) and the sub (RCS), the impedance may be different. Maybe I should invest a bit here but it's a bit of effort to get the cabling done right if I want to use XLR for both. -- pippin --- see iPeng, the Squeezebox iPhone remote and *New: iPeng for iPad*, at penguinlovesmusic.com pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94100 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] ADAM users unite!
Hallo Pippin! Happy to Help! :) My listening room (Living room) isn't "large" by any stretch, but of a very "open" design...typical of homes in the US.Open to the kitchen, dining room, etc. Much to my delight, the Subs simply do not suffer from the problems I've had in other listening rooms elsewhere. My house, for whatever reason just seems to "Work". Perhaps it's simply the manner of construction more than anything else.It doesn't do a good job of containing & reflecting low-frequency energy..so Modes/Nodes are to a great extent minimized. The SVS's are really intelligently designed (I've spent time discussing things with their designer) and am completely, 100% sold! The ADAMs? I like the "ADAM" sound. It's like being in the control room when the recording was being made, so I had no reservations about dropping some money on the newer model. Perhaps..."Lautsprecher von Berlin" are my thingwhatever. I'm an ADAM believer! Next "upgrade" (maybe) is balanced interconnect..throughout. Why? 1) I can 2) My favorite cables aren't that expensive. Tschuss! -- Curt962 Life is precious. Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] ADAM users unite!
Argh. Did you have to say that ;) I've got a pair of A5s which are great but too weak for my living room since I moved. I combined them with a MicroVee which is also great but has the usual subwoofer problem: the setup only works fine for a limited volume range so I have to re-adjust the volume when I either want to hear very silent or very loud music. I did already consider to move that setup to my office where I use a pair of PC speakers now which I love but which, too, are way too weak as soon as I move away from the computer and to get a pair of A7X for the living room, now you start to fuel that again... -- pippin --- see iPeng, the Squeezebox iPhone remote and *New: iPeng for iPad*, at penguinlovesmusic.com pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94100 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] ADAM users unite!
Just a little past the two year mark with my trusty ADAM A7s, my dear wife (AKA: Human audio analysis system) decided that I'd like the newer ADAM A7X's to go with my equally new pair of SVS SB-13+ subs. I found myself in the rare situation of being TOTALLY in agreement with my Wife! The new "X" series ADAMs have some refinements, most notably..the XART ribbon tweeter that is nothing short of superb. The original "ART" ribbon tweeter (think: Heil AMT) was super, and the XART just makes things even better. The SVS (sealed) Subs are no less remarkable. Outstanding build-quality, and back-breaking heft. I'm completely dazzled by how easy it was to get them (SVSs)to integrate...seamlessly! Wonderful, and extremely well thought-out pieces of engineering they are! Things are sounding really nice here, and Momma and I have spent many, many happy hours already re-hearing our favorite music. It's all good!I'm happy as a clam! For the sake of a loudspeaker discussion..."Deutschland Uber Alles!" Ich liebe mein ADAMs :)) -- Curt962 Life is precious. I've been to the edge, and learned that God is my friend.
