Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Music Fidelity v-dac and SB3

2009-08-23 Thread earwaxer

I bought the v-dac before I got my transporter. I was thinking of going
the PC as server through USB to DAC.

I sent the v-dac back after a few days of burn in. I couldn't stand it!
Both through my PC USB and SPDIF through my Rega Apollo. I found the
sound to be 2D. Thin and lacking in color. The transporter was much more
interesting out of the box. It was almost like the difference between AM
and FM.

If the rest of your system tends to be a little "loosey goosey" then
the v-dac could firm things up a bit. The transporter is tight and deep!
I think I'm getting a woody!

I agree with previous poster, the V-dac improved the sound of my sb3
quite a bit. Even my wife noticed the inprovement immediately.

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Music Fidelity v-dac and SB3

2009-08-20 Thread goopie

I've been using a V-DAC with the SB3 for about 5 weeks now. I had bought
the V-DAC for my desktop system, comprising Linn Kans and an A&R
Cambridge A60 amplifier. I put the V-DAC in my main system to trial it
and won't be taking it out in the near future. The V-DAC was definitely
a step up from my previous, much more expensive and well reviewed DAC.
It immediately impressed with more resolution and a much richer and more
spacious sound. The reviews are right, it's an impressive DAC in
absolute terms. For the money though - bought for 260 Australian dollars
in England - its an incredible bargain. It's not the prettiest piece of
equipment, so I hide it behind the other components.

The sound apparently is improved by replacing the wall wart power
supply. That's my next step. In the meantime, I'll continue to enjoy the
best bargain I've bought in a long time.
