Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Music streaming, Video Display option with Squeezebox, network storage

2008-01-18 Thread chaslieb

Has anyone tried using the apple tv wired into a squeezebox as a
standalone music server? Much cheaper than a mini and if you are only
making playlists from the squeezebox screen then who needs more?
Thinking of ripping my cds storing on Apple tv and outputting via
sqeezebox into standalone DAC.

Any ideas?

I can't wait to see the posts about the headaches and brain cancer
caused by having wi-fi headphones! Such a product will really bring
out the aluminum foil hat crowd!

Logitec (and previously SlimDevices) do not comment on future hardware,
so any speculation about an 'SB4' is exactly that, speculation.

Never heard of wifi headphones, although i do have a stereo BlueTooth
head set for my phone that works well, although the range is limited.

Don't remember where I read or heard it but this spring/summer we'll
start seeing WiFi headphones.

...are there Wi-Fi headphones? I have never seen them.

If you mean wireless headphones, they're usually analog, and they're
usually quite crappy.

Hey, thanks. Glad you guys are out there with the 'support'.

Will WIFI headphones eliminate the current headphone jack with the
Squeezbox?

Or another Transporter ;) These two devices are designed to be located
round the house next to the stereo/speakers they are driving, not as a
central music distribution system

Don't count on it. Have a look in the Jive beta forums on here. You
will see the beta development hardware for a remote with a colour
screen. This would appear to be the way Logitec are taking the display
as opposed to having video out.

There are loads of NAS boxes that can have Slimserver installed on them
now. Some have to be hacked to get them working (Buffalo for example),
some have the ability to add custom apps but are not supported by the
manufacturer (Thecus N5200 for example) and some have vendor supported
modules (Qnap and Infrant).

Some NAS boxes are little speed daemons and take 5 drives (N5200) some
are painfully slow and are single drive. Have a hunt about in the 3rd
Party Hardware forums.

You might get more response in other forums. 'Audiophiles' is mainly
concerned with achieving the highest possible audio quality... and
arguing about said quality ;)

[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Music streaming, Video Display option with Squeezebox, network storage

2007-11-11 Thread Gene Zalar

1. As far as I can tell I cannot stream Internet Radio from iTunes to
other rooms in my house. I currently have a couple of 'network'
options:

a. I have Apple TV but it won't allow me to stream Internet Radio to
other rooms (I understand this - I think - but it tics me off for a lot
of reasons). Is there a 'hack' for this?

b. I also recently purchased a Transporter but I need a Squeezbox to
stream to other rooms - right?

Is there another obvious option that I have and cannot see with what I
have going on?

2. It would be nice to have some kind of video out (HDMI or Component)
so I may display the 'Squeezebox' interface on a larger screen in other
rooms like I can with Apple TV. I would guess this is in the works for
'SB4', right

3. Are there still complications with network storage and slim devices
(in particular, Buffalo)? If so what other options are available that
you can recommend as reliable?

Thanks,

Gene

P.S. I am building an audio and video system from scratch. So far on
the audio side I am using Apple Aiport Extreme, a Mac Mini and Windows
XP, Transporter and Tetra speakers. I have a couple of Denon's that are
filling in as I upgrade. Please make other hardware recommendations.
