Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Need Repair for Dead Transporter
Disappointing to read about Logitech's refusal to assist, and I do hope youre able to force them into resolving the issue Rob, because the TP's a nice piece of kit and a very pricy (overpriced by today's standards) one at that. But really guys, you carry on as if the TP is the last word in audio fidelity. Personally I don't think Logitech should ever contemplate a TP v2 - it's not their game, sphere of competence or the market they serve - all of that was in the Slimdevices domain. What Logitech do have that's important to me is the Squeezebox ecosystem, without which my enjoyment of my music would be severely diminished. I've purchased a few SB Touch devices and use them as players wherever I want to listen to music. In my listening room I've forgone the TP, replacing it with a Touch as transport, feeding an external DAC (which I've come to prefer over the TP). The point is, as good as the TP is/ was, there are better (and cheaper) DACs on the market today. Rob, if you don't come right, do yourself a favour and have a listen to the PS Audio Digital Link III and the Audiolab M-DAC as options. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. audiomuze's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33613 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95537 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

But as an aside, it is true that I think either UPS or federal express does, for example, all repairs for companies like Dell Computer (may have this a bit wrong, but the concept is that these delivery companies have become full-blown logistics support companies that not only pick up your damaged laptop from your office but actually repair it somewhere and send it back to you without ever going back to the actual company. Not that odd really given that most companies we think of as "manufacturers" don't actually manufacture anything. They simply own the brand and maybe the underlying technology and simply outsource everything else. garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95537 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

Yes but, yes but, yes but Logitech are still selling the TP SE in the US. Therefore there must be TP SE's that are still in warranty which they should be able to fix. And your TP (presumably non-SE) has EXACTLY THE SAME MOTHERBOARD. If Logitech sold a TP SE today and tomorrow the motherboard blew up, they would HAVE to fix it - probably by replacing said motherboard. So they are clearly in a position where they could supply a replacement motherboard for your TP. The fact they are refusing to do so is simple bloody-mindedness. (The alternative - that they are unable to replace the mobo of a TP SE in warranty - is too shocking to contemplate). This is absolutely unacceptable customer service, and I bet the senior management at Logitech would be appalled to know it is going on. So find out who the CEO of Logitech is and write directly to him. cliveb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=348 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95537 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Need Repair for Dead Transporter
I think the problem with Logitech (as with a lot of companies these days) is that they don't do repairs anymore, they don't even have employees with the skills for performing repairs. If an item shows a defect in the warranty period it is easier for them to just replace it. If you want a repair I think you have to take it to a local repair shop. But if they need some parts that were specially made for the Transporter you're out of luck. You can sent letters to Logitech all you want, but it will not help. Complain to the BBB. They'll forward your complaint to Logitech within 2 days, who then have 14 days to respond in writing. You're not asking for a repair under warranty, i.e. free of charge, but it's reasonable to expect a manufacturer to be able to repair a product that they are still offering for sale in the same market. If they think you're not going to go away it's easier usually just to sort it out. paulster's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=23073 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95537 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

Just to add my 2 cents. I don't know about consumer law in the US, but here in the UK I'm pretty sure a company is legally obliged to be able to service their products for a reasonable amount of time. If Logitech are still selling Transporter SEs, then they must surely have spare motherboards kicking around for this very purpose. Perhaps you should ask whether they are prepared to sell you a replacement mobo. I've been inside my own TP (to repair the IR blaster output) and swapping in a new mobo would be trivial. If this is really true, Logitech deserves a huge slap! Refusing to do this even while at the same time *still* selling them (the SE-version) is outrageous! I just talked to Logitech, and they will not service my Transporter, which has a nasty hum on the output. I suspect the output stage, possible the op-amps. In any event, Logitech no longer services the Transporter. Does anyone know who can diagnose and repair the problem. Logitech was very unhelpful. I am very disappointed in the lack of support for their most expensive product, which they still market and sell. Any help with this will be appreciated.
