[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: Inwall amplifiers
I paid a lump-sum to my A/V installer, which included running wire for in-ceiling speakers (Proficient Audio, pretty decent BTW). Surfing the net, seems the amp sells for about $240, but I think I got it for a little less. I'm running the SB analog out to the audio in of the Russound. I mounted the amp on the back of my bedroom dresser, virtually invisible. In a kitchen, it could go on top of, inside, or under, cabinets. The Russound Auto Power On/Off has an adjustable time out, which I had to tweak a bit. I am also using the Slimserver Pre-Amp Volume Control, to allow me to keep the volume scale 35-40 for typical listening. -- sleepysurf squeezebox2 (with elpac wm075-1950-760 linear psu) direct to amp, 300gb buffalo linkstation (remote flac audio file storage), sunfire cinema grand 200 ~five (vertically bi-amped) driving martin-logan aerius i's, blue jeans cables. How much is the Russound amp? Did you connect the analogue outs of the SB2 to the amplified in connectors of the amp? I.e. not the analogue inputs on the left of the back panel (where the video-in is located)? or how? -- nicky6 nicky6's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3258 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=20818 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: Inwall amplifiers
Those Pragmatic in wall amps look very slick, but I'd still be leery about having a heat generating electrical device hidden in a wall, faceplate or not. Facing a similar situation (retro-fitting an amp) for my bedroom Squeezebox setup... I went with a Russound R235LS (35 watts)... http://russound.com/amplifiers.htm This amp has a reasonably small form factor with wall/cabinet mount screw holes. It also offers MULTIPLE inputs with automatic override... so my music signal automatically shuts off whenever my TV audio is on. -- sleepysurf squeezebox2 (with elpac wm075-1950-760 linear psu) direct to amp, 300gb buffalo linkstation (remote flac audio file storage), sunfire cinema grand 200 ~five (vertically bi-amped) driving martin-logan aerius i's, blue jeans cables. It would probably be best to solder in all cabling into an in-wall amp! The thing is, a friend of mine already has that amp built in into his new house (he moved in during 2004) using SliMP3's and Boston inwall speakers. I have no idea how it sounds compared to the Sonic T-Amp. When I was there, the sound was fairly low and I never asked him to demonstrate its capabilities. I was hoping someone here might've had some experiences with the amp. He says it's very cool (as in the opposite of warm) and therefore works nice in this application. Dunno if the T-amp also is cool, and if the low 5W is comparable to the Pragmatic's 48W and which of the two sounds the best... btw, here's his application: http://www.silverskar.se/html/house_041124-041130_7.html -- nicky6 nicky6's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3258 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=20818 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

Sorry, I did some more looking and realized the Pragmatic amp IS made for in wall use, and has readymade solutions for wall plates, jboxes, panels, etc- so you're right I was WAY off base. There may not have been much response because the amp is fairly new, and the company's products are marketed solely to professional systems installers, according to http://www.hometoys.com/releases/may03/pragmatic-09.htm . Supposedly Pragmatic's founder, Prasanna Shah, is an award winning engineer; and the stereo amps are 'audiophile quality dual monoblock amps'. Interesting product with tons of applications, thanks for pointing it out- and let us know how it sounds if you get one. -- Skunk Skunk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2685 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=20818 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

How about not stealing this thread?! If you want info on inwall mounting please search in other threads. There are lots of info to find. See e.g. "slimp3 in*". So, anyone has any input on the particular amp in question? -- nicky6 nicky6's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3258 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=20818 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

Sorry about that, I see what you're saying [a way to plug in a wall wart in-wall and up to code; although still would have to be 'accessible' as they're panels, which would defeat the purpose IMO] Anything done 'in wall' is best done prior to 'walling'. 'In wall multi room solutions' is far too vague to help you much, nicky6, further than saying I'd go for the sonic impact over the one you linked to. -- Skunk Skunk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2685 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=20818 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
