Only off the rca outputs though - not the xlr's. -- mr_bill mr_bill's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6737 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=30365 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

There's also a hardware jumper inside that sets attenuation in the analog domain, so you can run it at 100% digital volume and set the jumper if this overwhelms the system. -- Mark Lanctot Mark Lanctot's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2071 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=30365 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

No bits have been harmed in the making of this movie, er..ah, volume control. :)) No data is ever lost, still 16 bits sent to the DAC, just with the word's amplitude multiplied by the reduction factor contained in the extra 8 bits tacked on to the 16 bit word coming from file whenever volume control is engaged. The processing required to reduce volume by a large amount is the same as by a small amount, just a different factor. With larger volume reductions, the resulting product is more prone to inaccuracy, due to only 8 bits allowed for VC info. But the result is dithered so any slight errors are not audible anyway. Unlike SB, noise in transporter is very low, so using the software VC has no negative effect. straight out of the RCA outputs at about -20dB and it surprisingly sounded great hence my question. I have a Behringer DEQ2496 which allows reduction of digital output volume but I always found that going lower than -3db reduces liveliness in music. Still trying to decide on whether to make a jump for the Transporter 8-) -- Kiep Kiep's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8844 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=30365 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

It is digital. Not going under -30db wouldn´t loose any bits. I can´t find the source atm for this info but remember it this way. -- Wombat Wombat's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4113 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=30365 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
