[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: Which input channel

2006-05-23 Thread Phil Leigh

You need to try both - the outcome is heavily system dependant. You
cannot assume that one or the other is always better. There are too
many variables at play (cables & plugs, earth quality, AC quality,
stray RFI etc).

You may need to consider attenuating the Meridian line input if the SB
is too "hot" for it (eg if normal listening volume is in the early part
of the volume scale). Some line inputs are not happy with a lot more
than 0.775v pk-to-pk across them...

I seem to recall a difference in the jitter measurements (?).

pkfox, I ordered a digital RCA from bluejeans cable last night. It was
$14 for a four foot cable, probably not the best, but close to the
cheapest :-)

Whichever you like, the SB3 has both optical and coax outputs.

As to which is 'better'... they're the same, but some people swear by
one or the other.

might as well ask this as well ?, I've ordered a DAC Lite 60 which
should arrive some time this week, which output should I use (optical /
coax ) ? also any tips on interconnects greatly appreciated, I take it
it's coax or optical from the SB3 and RCA's into the 551
