Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] SBR with Meridian

2008-04-25 Thread W1NDRUSH

Phil,

The center is taking the role of master, as per documentation on setup
of DSP's. The 565 has some distortion unless output is stereo only,
which is why i was trying to bypass it altogether by plugging into the
digital input 2 on the speakers.

The rears are B&W 603's 'powered' by my old DSP-A1, (wife not
permitting any further purchases).

Thanks

do you have the 5000c connected to the "centre" output on the 565?
Surely if you are sending a stereo file (flac/wav etc) via the sb spdif
to one of the 565 inputs, the centre wont make a sound?
I can't find any mention of the term "master" in the 565 manual...

Not wishing to highjack the thread.

I have the following meridian setup 2 * 7000's 1 * 5000c and a 565V3. I
have spent a couple of hours trying to convince the 7000's to work with
the SB ignoring the Center. Is this possible or just adding to my woes
(the amp distorts anything other than stereo output). M say the centre
should always be the master, but i'm thinking that if i want the 7000's
to run stereo and ignore the centre the only way is to make one of them
the master.

help appreciated.

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] SBR with Meridian

2008-04-21 Thread Rodney_Gold

I have dsp5500's , connected directly , I do have a 518 which I tried ,
but find that whatever setting I use , it actually changes the sonics ,
and not for the better , it removes the drive from the music, even in
bypass (the meridian still acts on the signal in bypass) Worked much
better with just the SB and a Kimber D60 digi cable.
I don't actually have my SB "directly" connected right now , Im using a
Z-sys RDP-1 parametric eq. When I tested the SB and my meridians , the
Z-sys wasnt in the loop.

Cheers Phil, I'll give that a go. Certainly simplifies things.

Option 3 is the only one that makes sense. AFAIK the output of the
Duet/SB3 is 24-bit. You don't need to "upscale" it. I can't see the
point of the 518 these days TBH. In 1995 - sure.
Anyway, why don't you just try it and see.
Your 5200's are already upsampling to 24/192 internally anyway.

[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] SBR with Meridian

2008-04-20 Thread bov

I now have a Duet SBR connected via digital to my Meridian DSP5200
speakers - which accept 24 bit input. I also have a Meridian 518 which
I have been using to upscale the 16 bit audio from my old Roku to 24
bit. But now that the SBR outputs 24 bit I wondered if anyone had any
recommendations for what to set? All my music is WMA Lossless.

I have read the forums and set the SBR to output at fixed volume and
all the gain stuff is turned off. I have set the Bitrate limiting to no
limit and the LAME quality level to highest.

So which option should I go for?

1. Should I keep the 518 in the loop and let it assume the SBR is
outputting 16 bit so that it takes those first 16 bits and upconverts
with signal shaping to 24 bit?

2. Should I set it all to 24 bits

3. Should I take the 518 out and connect from SBR to DSP5200's direct?

I'm currently leaning towards the first option?

Any other settings or tweaks I should make?
