"Having a play" with yourself will offer as much improvement.

In that regard, as long as your server is in a different room than the
listening room/Squeezebox, and it has a PSU that doesn't inject
significant amounts of noise into the mains, there are no more hardware
or software server tweaks that would make a difference sound quality
wise. (Except from processing the sound with a digital plug-in,
obviously.)

Ethernet is a conceivable transmitter of noise, but that is easily
avoided in the unlikely event that it's a problem to begin with.

2012-03-19 Thread Mnyb

The short story since the very first squeezebox a decade ago one
paramount design feature has been it's total independency of the server
for sound quality only the quality of the files matters and it actually
works. .
But read the other tread first

If the server + network can fill the players buffer all is ok , just
try, remove the network cable at least 15 seconds of music in CD
quality is in the buffer .

Or actually if you are at the last song of a playlist or album and
don't use any repeat setting your are listening to the buffer already,
did you ever notice ;)

Try using a liquid cooled PC instead of an air cooled PC - the sound is

Yeah, when using a streaming player like the Squeezebox, PC tweaking is
a indeed a whole can of placebo worms. ;)

Don't expect any rational suggestions, because PC tweaking in this

[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] SBT source.. or rather the pc with the data is the source..

2012-03-19 Thread Deaf Cat

Changing the psu on the router and the access point seem to have made
rather a nice improvement :-) Cheers Soundcheck for the tip!!!

Got me thinking, what about my old clapped out pc that is running as
the server, all that mechanical and electrical noise, vibrations and
smps etc... This is where the tunes initiate from ;-) if a new psu
for a router makes a difference would not a new psu for the pc.. anyone
played/tweeked the pc server ?

Just put some vib draining feet under the old pc and it seems to have
made a nice difference, rather supprised and pleased, placebo or not
they are staying :-)

Any more suggestions for tweeks appreciated.

Cheers
DC
