Apart from anything else, it simply isn't available in many parts of
the world. In the UK for example Tivo was only ever briefly available
because the UK satellite TV market is a de facto monopoly and Sky TV
(who are the only satellite provider) have their own non-Tivo set top
box. Sky do not allow anyone else to develop a decoder for their
propriety encryption.

So nobody has a Tivo HD?

It may not be exactly what you had in mind, but

1) It will download videos from PC to Tivo and play them while
downloading (you may need pyTivo to do this, depending on the format on
the PC).

2) It will download videos from Amazon Unbox and play them.

3) It will play YouTube videos in real time (no downloading to hard
drive).

4) Not to mention the whole two-tuner DVR functionality...

What else do you need it to do?

Regards,
Kim

I'm still waiting for SlimDevices to announce one!

I had a look at the exiting ones and none seem ready for prime time.

(If you ever build one, please let me be a beta-tester!)

Thanks to you all, I think I'll wait until the players mature a bit more

I agree that the popcorn hour (i own an A-100) is the closest thing you
can buy todoy. The same applies to other sybas-based network players
(iStar, Dune HD/BD whatever, ...)
Although i don't know the venerable slimp3 player i would think video
streamers are in the same age today: working but not near as mature as
those Slim Players (+ Squeezecenter) are nowadays.
What's similar: you can spend quite some time tweaking and expanding
this system as there are a lot of 'addons'
(http://code.google.com/p/moviejukebox/wiki/MovieJukebox) and an acitve
'community' (http://www.networkedmediatank.com/)

Summary: As much as i'd like to see a network video streamer with the
qualities of a transporter i don't think it's prime time(*) for these
devices yet.

kind regards,
Markus

(*) It's not the technical domain only but much more the content
delivery part...

I don't (yet) own one of these, but my guess is that the Popcorn Hour
