The only advice I can possibly give you is to listen to the speakers in
the room when it is finished and choose then. Nobody can tell what any
speakers will sound like in a room that doesn't even exist yet

If HCC are any good they will let you try them at home.

The garage is attached to the kitchen which feeds into the dining and
then the lounge and then the entrance hall. In here is the consumer
unit, so is what you proposed going to be an expensive and messy job.
?

Lighting and power sockets already exist in the garage.

Like the look of these wallplates

Maybe some infrared matching dimmer switches ?

Yes - a spur or ring going directly back to the consumer unit, on its
own breaker. Alternatively, a seperate small consumer unit going to the
meter would be even better... your sparks will advise what is possible
(just don't tell him you are concerned about sound quality!).

If you can get unswitched mains sockets fitted that would be good (MK
type are best - see here:
http://www.screwfix.com/p/mk-2-gang-unswiitched-socket/41714 )

Our garage conversion commences on 2nd May.

There is existing electrics in there will be having new wiring for new
lighting etc.

What should I be looking at to isolate the power for my audio equipment
from the rest of the room ? Fused spur ?

It is the other way around. Ribbons and magnetostats tend to sharp spot
more, thats why you see many of them with a kind of mechanical
attachement to spread the sounds.

I have the Mentor 2. Before that I had the Ikon 6. Love them, maybe a
little on the bright side, but use the Iguz eq plugin to reduce the
3.500-10.000 frequency range, along with the bass management. You don´t
have to have the hearing of a 16 year old, to hear the ribbon tweeter.
I´m 50, took the tweeter unit out of the cabinet and only unplugged the
dome tweeter. I could easily hear sound coming from the ribbon tweeter,
even harmonics from a female singers. Also, the ribbon provides more
dispersions and a larger "sweet spot".

But with the wall-mount, you will need a sub-woofer. I use the Rel T
line. They´re compact, fast and musical

sorry I was looking at the wrong ones...

How good is your top end hearing (ie over 14k?) - if it's as good as a
16-year old, go with the Ikon and get the benefit of its ribbon
tweeter.
