Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] New transporter firmware (v.40) in nightlies
Gawd. This thread ends here?! Three months after the last attempt I am back here. I've just put my Transporter back into my system. The system is running SC 7.2. I've upgraded the Transporter firmware, flashed the Xlinix and still the damn thing is silent. No VU meter movement. The screen indicates that there is a track playing but the device is silent. This through balanced outs. It's now just a silent featherweight box. No purpose at all. Can I get my money back? Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] New transporter firmware (v.40) in nightlies
I've also had a problem running 7.01 SC but upgrading the TP to FW v43. The update happens automatically, but nothing plays. The TP screen says it plays but there's no meter movement or time display change. The web interface for the TP also shows nothing happening. I did do a reset (1+power) which did nothing. I had to do a factory reset (ADD+power) to get it back to a point where I could reset back to FW v.37. Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] New transporter firmware (v.40) in nightlies
It was moving to 7.1 that caused the upgrade to firmware 40. I'd have persevered with it if I did not have the Transporter wired directly to my amp. A quick warning to others: Upgrading by downloading the Windows executable and then errr... executing it, such that 7.1 just overlaid my 7.0.1 installation destroyed my SqueezeCenter installation. The left hand pane of the web interface would not load. I've had to reinstall 7.0.1 from scratch now. I'm back on firmware 37. Using firmware 40 depends on your specific situation I ran it for a month, and had only one, unrepeatable glitch. But then I'm not using all the options, the volume control isn't used, and I only rarely use the digital inputs as I have another DAC which I use for other digital sources. Most of the problems seem to center around these two functions. -- DCtoDaylight DCtoDaylight's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7284 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42960 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

I have been using v40 since it was first released, also for the digital loop capability (which I presume is what you mean by "foldback"). It has always worked fine for me - no stability problems at all. There is an issue that the volume control doesn't work properly - there's a bug raised for that. As far as I can see there are two issues with FW40 for a lot of people, including me: 1. Switching to and from digital input to network playing. What I see is that I can't go to digital input via the menu-option: this results in plopping and noise. I can go to digital input by going to the primary setup (left button till you're there). But now I only can get back to network playing by restarting the transporter. 2. Frequent unnecessary degaussing of the main knob. Although I never touch the knob, at times it keeps making this rattling sound every 10 seconds, sometimes for an extended period of time. When this starts and ends seems totally unpredictable. The only logic I have found is that it surely starts when I shut down Squeezecenter. Why am I still using FW40? It makes it possible to play 24/88.2 files. I am confident that the two points I mention will be solved in a new version of the firmware. Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] New transporter firmware (v.40) in nightlies
I tried two versions of the v.40 firmware but experienced a blocker bug: any change of the volume level kills the audio and requires a power cycle. This is no-go because the Transporter serves as a DAC for my AV system, meaning my family uses it to watch TV... So I had to revert to the release versions of SlimServer and the Transporter firmware. Now every time I switch inputs, I get no sound and must hard reset the Transporter. I had this problem before, but a quick power cycle would do the trick. I used the TP as a digital pre-amp, so this is a problem... I did update the Xilink. The purpose of this part is to tie together the CPU with the DAC, to provide selection from multiple clock sources, and to generate the s/pdif output signal. In Transporter it additionally routes the audio signals coming in from the s/pdif receiver and provides the special functions such as word clock I/O and effects loop. This chip contains flash memory which is factory programmed, but also can be reprogrammed in the field. Changing the programming of this part is the modern equivalent of physically rewiring a bunch of 74xxx logic chips. Prior to TP FW40 we have never revised the logic programming, so this is the first time we are having to reprogram it in the field. Clearly, something is wrong with the automated reprogramming of this part which is supposed to take place at power-on, starting with FW40. Why it would sometimes work when pressing '1' but not automatically I don't yet know, but some including myself and the QA team here have not had to force it. I will look into it. I have not heard anything like that, but whatever it is should be fixable. FW40 seems to be fine with slimserver 6.5.4 too; Must resist going to Linn Records web-site for more Studio Masters :) -- amcluesent amcluesent's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10286 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42960 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

Also, unfortunately, the power spikes when selecting a digital input, seems much worse (and quicker to reproduce) then in FW36. However, when this happens, switching to playing normal music from the server (normal squeezebox usuage as it were) is not a problem. And additional problem now, when you have a digital source selected, as soon as you change the digital volume, you get the power spikes, and no more audio. needs power-cycling for it to come back. I'm heading back to FW36 for now. -- Heimiko Transporter -> XLR Attenuators (-20db) -> Electrocompaniet AW100 DMB -> Dynaudio Audience 122 ___ └> BK Monolith Analog modded SB3 -> tube buffer -> Trends Audio TA-10 -> Eltax Monitor III Heimiko's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3462 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42960 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

Unfortunately the 96kHz WAV problem is not fixed ( http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42427 ) Will log a bug. I'm guessing that's not what you mean by 'effects loop'... No, that takes place totally outside the firmware, and effectively outside of SC for that matter. -- seanadams seanadams's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42960 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] New transporter firmware (v.40) in nightlies
"- Word clock and effects loop settings take effect immediately - no need to reconnect or restart the track." Wow...cool. I think I may just have to move to 7.0 and stop dinking about with the firmware for TP. Question: The above quote doesn't by any chance mean that things like Inguz settings (e.g. increasing treble) will take effect immediately, does it? I'm guessing that's not what you mean by 'effects loop'... Awesome, it sounds like a lot of work went into these changes.
