Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Stabilizing the SB3

I got my SB3 pretty stable, but therapists are expensive. Since my SB3
stopped going to it's sessions it has gotten worse

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Stabilizing the SB3

2007-11-08 Thread Deaf Cat

Hay Zanash, did you glue the mdf/rubber/grannet together or just rest
them on top of each other, and did you help weight down your SB in any
way or just clamp the rear, Oh, and have you tried your platform under
the psu ?

OP ! if you have a linear/separate psu try the sorbothane under there
too. I found the sorbothane gave something and took something away
under my SB, and its psu, But, under the power amp :D

I would not say the differences were huge in my case, but noticable to
a fussy ear :0

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Stabilizing the SB3

2007-11-08 Thread zanash

lets assume you didn't like the direction the thread was going from your
replies.

I used the simple expedient of clamping the sb3 by its rear foot to a
"vibration sink " made from a sheet of 18mm mdf 6mm rubber sheet and a
6mm granite placemat with felt feet. Yes it makes the unit sound
better by a small but obvious ammount more a question of resolution
than out right more bass or treble.

As to why this should work my guess is that its stopping vibration
getting in rather than getting rid of vibs produced by the sb3.

Oh you don't have to take my word you could always try it !

Oh, I get it! Like virgin and extra-virgin olive oil... What I want
to know is where is all the experienced olive oil? Are the Italians
keeping it for themselves?

Olives are graded by size. The smallest size is "medium". then
"large". "Colossal" is somewhat larger but far from one-to-a-can. No
"Small" grade makes it to the store.

Tweakers seem to hear "HUGE" improvements more commonly than barely
noticeable.

Did you try moving the SB3 off of the vibrating machinery? Try
swapping it's location with your DVD player...

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Stabilizing the SB3

2007-11-07 Thread tyler_durden

I am depressed. I will never know the joys of the "huge" improvements
due to sorbothane balls, sticky dots, wood pucks, green pens, CD
demagnetizers, $500 power cords, etc., that bring such transcendent
bliss to so many serious audiophiles. It's all because I learned the
meanings of adjectives from dictionaries rather than audiophile
magazines and advertisements. I blame my parents! If only they had
steered me toward the right literature when I was a child I might not
suffer this loss of sensibility today. I wonder if I can get a
handicapped parking permit...

I find that 4 or 5 shots of whiskey causes a STUPENDOUS reduction in
the sound of my system.

Was your SB3 sitting on a paint shaker before you put it on sorbothane
balls? When you say HUGE, do you mean GIGANTIC or merely STUPENDOUS?

Have you tried seeing what happens if you do that to the DAC instead?
