[Blind-Computing] ePub reading/generating software for PC

2013-05-13 Thread Jacob Kruger
While can easily enough read ePub eBooks on my android unit, using the
bookShare app, go read, am just wondering what would be the best software to
use on the windows PC itself?

Also, while have quite successfully/comfortably used the epubBud.com website to
thus far convert various other formats into ePub documents, what's the best bit
of offline software to use on the windows PC itself?

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Hi Amber,

The problem seems to be more complicated than I think it is. If it is not
booting and going to your desktop, I am not sure what to suggest. However,
if you are wanting to boot your computer in safe mode do this: Press the F8
key when you have restarted the computer, keep this key pressed till after
the windows log on screen disappears.

It's happened with both my Systemax computers & it seemed like running

fits. I talked to their tech support people & they couldn't figure
exactly what might be the culprit but, they wanted me to ship the
computers back to them so they could have a look at them. 1 of the
computers is a dual boot system & I didn't feel like going through the
hassle of setting up both systems again after they got finished doing
whatever troubleshooting they were going to do. They had told me that
all drives would have to be wiped clean to see where the trouble might
be starting from. Long story short, I figured it was easier for me to
have new soundcards installed & run Jaws through an external
soundcard & since I've done that, no sound problems at all!
Take care.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Speaker Volume Control in the Systems Tray

2013-05-13 Thread Jacob Kruger
Windows7 likes to hide what it see's as inactive icons - from desktop, tab
until you hear something like system notification - can't remember exactly
what it's called - invoke context menu, and there's a context menu item
relating to hidden icons, and if you hit enter on it, it will bring up the
part of the interface to control each and every possible icon it knows
about's permanent visibility, etc.

Alternatively, think you can still, on windows7, hit windows key + R to
bring up run dialogue, and type in sndvol32 there and hit enter to bring up
volume control - but, not currently on windows7 machine, so can't test that
right now myself.

Re: [Blind-Computing] keep losing my sound

2013-05-13 Thread Shari Scott
If you guys find a solution, please post. When I upgraded to 7 I lost all
sound. No video, no voice, no audio. I also loaded 7 on a Mac Lap top
with bootcamp. Same thing. No sound on the Windows 7 side, Great sound on
the Mac side so I know it isn't a hardware issue. Thanks for letting me
know if you are able to correct this. I like Windows 7 and want to keep it
but I really need audio output.

[Blind-Computing] Speaker Volume Control in the Systems Tray

2013-05-13 Thread Liuda Balcius

I am using JAWS 12.0 and Windows 7. For some reason, the volume control
in the systems tray disappeared.

Can someone tell me what I must do to restore it again? Please, be
specific.

Thank you very much.

Re: [Blind-Computing] openbook help?

2013-05-13 Thread Van Der Walt Riana
Which version of Openbook?

Also, there are other settings in openbook to set too, like how many files, how
many pages per file, what audio quality.

The voice and speed in use on the open file at the time that you set the
conversion settings, is the voice and speed that will be used.

Hi all,

I have a doc file that I wish to convert to audio.

I open the file in openbook.
go through the menu to where it says convert to audio.
I then get a message saying it was unsucessful.

No other error is given.

What have I done wrong or missed?

It's no consolation, but I have been having the same problem for a
couple of weeks now. I think that both of us need to call FS and ask
about how to solve this issue.
