Re: [Blind-Computing] no sounds

2013-05-12 Thread Jim Redding
If you haven't already done it try unplugging the speakers where they plug
into the sound card. Try rubbing the plug with your fingers or better still
use contact cleaner on it. Make very certain that you plug it back into the
same hole that it came out of. These things are real sensitive.
good luck

Hi Carlis,

You can also assign a sound to it, a sound that is virtually impossible to
hear. What is the correct spelling of, grawv? I've played around in the
default dictionary manager & I couldn't get this grawv key replaced by words
or sounds no matter which way I tried to spell grawv / grĂ¡v!
Take care.

Just a suggestion, instead of putting a space in for the Jaws dictionary in
place of the ` key why don't you have it say, the time is instead.

Hi David.

I tried your suggestion of putting the ` key in with replacement text of a
space character in the dictionary manager.

You are right that when the ` key is encountered within some kind of text
nothing is spoken, but, when you press the ` key jaws says "space".

Therefore, this solution won't work for Carlos.

In the replacement word field simply hit the space bar one time and it won't
say anything.

I thought of that, but the dictionary manager insists that you enter
replacement text. Everything I tried spoke something.

You could try using the dictionary manager in effect telling jaws to not say
anything when that particular key is pressed.

Listers,

In the settings of talking desktop clock, there is a keystroke setup for
anounceing the time. So I chose the grawv key sence we really don't use
that key any way. Maybe that was not such a good idea? But it does work,
the clock is saying the time, I just don't like hearing grawv before I hear
the time spoken.

Now I'm sure that we all know that the grawv key is just above the tab key

I remember some time ago, or should I really say, some years ago. I went in
to key labals and muted simbles, but that stopped all simbles from being
spoken.

I just now pressed the grawv key and talking desktop clock did tell me the
time, however, Jaws said grawv first. Jaws speaking at that moment can make
it kind of hard to hear the clock speaking, sence I'm using one of the
clock's voices, Robby the robot.

Thanks to all.

I don't know about the number of pins, but the memory sticks that we have
worked with are a different length and will not interchange. There may be
variations that I'm not aware of though.
Please lett me know what you find out. I do know that chips marked ddr and

Re: [Blind-Computing] Vinux

2011-04-05 Thread Jim Redding
If you had the problem of no sound after installing Vinux 3.0.1, here is a
solution.

you can restore sound by waiting until the system has fully booted then
pressing ctrl+alt+t to open a terminal, and

then typing the following commands exactly as written:

sudo /etc/init.d/pulseaudio reload

then press ctrl+alt+o to reload Orca.

Then if you're not using a live cd/dvd and would like to make the change
permanent, alt tab back to the terminal and run:

sudo gedit /etc/init.d/pulseaudio

Scroll down and change 'sleep 4' to 'sleep 12' on line 39 then save this
file. Next time you restart, the sound should be fine.

I don't understand what you are doing with the Microsoft Virtual PC
software in using with VINUX. Can you explain just a little. I am aquainted
with VINUX so know what it is all about. Just don't know why you are using
the Microsoft Virtual PC software with it.

Not quite sure why your keys are acting that way.

After activating any menu, I am able to use the standard arrow keys to
move up and down through menus and right arrow to enter a sub menu and
left menu to return from a sub menu. In the Vinux-desktop.txt file, it
claims that increasing the speed is bound to the Insert + right arrow
keys. It sounds like your Insert key is stuck! I have never had that
key stick. Perhaps it is because JAWS has been turned off? That might
change how the system handles the Insert key. I have not had to turn
 off
>>
 JAWS.

I assume that by the fact that you were able to login that you had used
the Control + g keystroke to allow all keys, including modifier keys to
be directed to VM-Ware Player. This should stop JAWS from receiving
these keystrokes or speaking. It should not be necessary to quit JAWS.

 Dear List Members
I am currently using JFW 10, I previously in JFW 9 I was able to use
the keystrokes ALT plus D to highlight the address line and then use
control plus C to copy to my clipboard, but seem to have lost this
ability in JFW 10. Is there different keystrokes to 'highlight' and to
 'copy' in JFW 10??
Thanks in advance! Hope this isn't too convoluted!
Charline
