Irish coffee contains all four required food groups:
Sugar, fat, caffeine, and alcohol

P.S. Obligatory comment about Perl -- the Chilean pianist Alfredo Perl has
recorded all of Beethoven's sonatas, and much else, and I recommend them.

Hopefully helpfully yours,

Re: [Boston.pm] emma's pizza

2007-01-10 Thread Philipp Hanes
I couldn't disagree more. Well, okay, I could, but I think you're
underestimating the variety of kinds of enjoyment some people get from
food.
You're talking about "taste" in a very basic sense.
Most foods provide a whole lot more than just stimulation to the
sweet/salty taste buds.
Texture (and variety thereof) is certainly one of the appeals of crispy
thin-crust pizza.
The olfactory sense is a big one, too. Different toppings appeal to
different people. Why?
I find a stick of salted butter *far* less appealing than even foods
that have little or no salt or fat in them (cooked carrots for
example... yes, they have the sugar component).

Sure, the human body physically is designed to crave fats and salt. So
those are a basic requirement for "yummy" food to a lot of people. But
while I acknowledge some people eat to live (and that's probably better
for long-term health) there are those of us who live to eat. There's a
lot more to be enjoyed about eating than just fulfilling some biological
craving for fats and salt and sugar.
Granted, if the bulk of Boston.pm attendees don't really care, then
sticks of butter would suffice.
Me, I'd vote for "better" food.

Thanks for tolerating my little rant.
Can you tell I like food? :-)

Not be cynical but...

All good tasting food is an exersize in salt, sugar and/or fat delivery
systems. The lowly potato chip could be made out of cardboard and people
would still eat it as long as it worked as a good substrate for carrying
the oil and salt.

Emma's is (still?) awesome.
Been eating there only since their new location, but I can't imagine it
used to be substantially better. That's just not possible :-)

Emma's was great on Huron. Did the new owners keep the same crust and

[Boston.pm] emma's pizza

2007-01-07 Thread Uri Guttman

we have talked about ordering emma's pizza for a change but the main
issue is that for large (or any?) delivery orders they must be a day in
advance. if we want to do this we need to order it tomorrow. is there
interest in doing this? emma's is a VERY thin crispy crust with a wide
range of quality toppings. i used to eat there when they were on huron
ave in cambridge and now they are near the 1 kendall sq complex (which
as we all know isn't near kendall sq itself! :).

if we can't pull it off this time due to tight notice, let's look into
it for some future meeting. cinderella's is ok but i would love to try
emma's for a meeting.

thanx,

uri
