Re: [Chevelle-list] classic car financing

2004-10-07 Thread Dan McIntosh

Ya, I just dont want to attach a car to my house. I
contacted my bank today, they're looking into an unsecured personal line of
credit for me for around 15K...
they said it has lower interest than a personal
loan...
I don't understand banks, I'm sure they're out to
ream me somehow though.
I'll let you guys know what turns up!
In the meanwhile, I have a 64 SS drop top for sale
if anyone is interested, my dream done went and turned into a nightmare
:(

  Hi
  Dan,

  If
you own your home, you can always get a home equity loan which will give you
lower rates along with tax deductible interest.  Plus, you can use
the money for whatever you want!

Anyone ever financed a classic
car?
I found a beautiful 63 Impala SS in Canada, but
I don't have the cash just sitting around.
I'm almost sure I cant walk into my bank and
get an auto loan for this.
Any ideas?
Thanks

I know that
Capital One Auto finance advertises that they will finance "higher value" used
cars.  As long as the dollar amount is (I think) over $7,500 they will
consider it.  I don't know how good the rates are.

Dan: If you've got the credit you can get a loan. The bank or credit union would
just put a lien on the title just like buying from a dealer, etc. Or you could be
offered a personal loan. Then it doesn't matter what you do with the $$. They know
you have the means to pay it back. I promised my family that when I bought my 65 SS
years ago that we would not be squeezed financially. I had just sold a rust bucket,
and began putting together a "dream fund". By the time I found the car I had about
1/3 of the cash I needed. I have good credit. That just means I pay my bills on time
& am not over extended & live within my means. My neighbors all drive fancy new cars.
My driver is a 9 year old Mazda Protoge and my wife has a 6 year old base model
Nissan mini van. The Chevelle gets all my $$ and its worth it. Anyway I started with
a personal loan cause it was the quickest way to get the $$ after negotiating w/the
owner for about 6 weeks coast to coast. I converted to a used car loan and now have
about a
year left at 3% interest. Rates are historically low now. GO FOR IT!!!

What ever you do, don't borrow off the street from a big guy named Guido. "If you
donta pay, he gonna break you face". Just kidding all you Italian guys out there.
I've got an ethnic heritage also.
